I did something similar but had an old Rogue bass to mess with, you can check it out in my channel. Doesnt sound as good as yours but i was just using a crappy marshall practice amp (guitar) with distortion. I'm going to my bands practice tonight to steal my drummers bass effects pedals and get a better sound. Yours sounds awesome!
Are you using a standard 4/4 size violin bow or something smaller? The reason I ask is because I've been going back and forth between choosing to buy either a cello or violin bow (I like the higher pitch your getting) and wanted to see what you were using. Love the vid (its my fav of the bowed bass videos on Youtube), keep up the great work!
I'm guessing not. I guess a cello bow might be better since it's longer, so it might be easier to get a smoother sound. I just went with the cheapest thing i could find.
actually a cello bow is shorter than a violin bow, but it is thicker and for electric bass a cello bow works a little better.
This is an awesome video though. I'm getting a cello bow for my bass tomorrow, so I'm just really freaking excited to play with it so I'm YouTubing some videos.
A little known fact is that....violin bows and cello bows are different, and bass bows are even more different. The bigger the isntrument the rougher the hair is on the bow and the more hair is on the bow . For this guy I would suggest buying a very inexspensive HORSE HAIR, most generic bows(usually made by glassel) use synthetic hair, its only very slight cheaper(about 10-15 bucks less)but real horse hair will last much longer and will work much better for getting sounds out strings that thick
I just wanted to let you know that after I saw this video, I got a violin bow from my friend and now i have found a way to incorporate it into alot of my material. So thank you for the inspiration!
regular tuning BEADG. Most music stores probably sell violin bows for like 40 or 50 bucks, and the rosin you have to rub on it to make it work is like 5 bucks.
i started to enjoy it at 1:20. Is it considered "contemporary" music if you play a classic hymn tune on a bass guitar with a bow? How can those, who love to label things, define this? Not your average praise and worship song. (and that's OK!)
Better than a bowguitar :3

at 1:37 it starts to sound a bit like the Mass Effect theme.

You may want to just use a upright bass bow, I have one and it is better suited for a bass

Try Pop's Rosin. Very sticky, comes in a little red pot. The best bass rosin out there.
Cheers!

I used a reverb and a delay, I also ran it through an EQ to take out some of the scratchiness.
