@MrTimmy153 ..I need a carb too..I got this bike for my 8th birthday and it means the world to me. Parts are impossible to find. Please let me know if you have any luck...Mine is not an MX..looks just like the one in the video.
That is a 1973 Yamaha 80 GT. It is not the MX model. The MX model that year was grey. The yellow one that you have came with lights, but someone has taken them off.
This is an Yamaha 80cc Enduro bike, this bike is made for driving on dirt roads and gravel 'stuff'. The top speed is around 40-45 mph and its having an 'quick' gear. Its very slow but back in 1974 - 1978 this was almost the best gear you could get. Its made in Japan and having cheap metall. (If your clutch is gone DO NOT RIDE IT! )
I got a early 73 Yamaha 80 same as above would like a reasonable offer for parts or fixer upper i located in Saskatoon,SK email flyingbuffalo2001@yahoo.com
i had 1 when i was a kid had to take it to school to weld the box fram where the lower rear control arm met the fram it crack right across hows yours ?
Bought it from my grandfather when I was 10 years old and had a paper route. (when it was still legal to be a kid and do so).
Wish I never got rid of it.
Mine didnt have the Speedo.. That was a DT80 Component.
The 74 GT80MXA had the mount for a speedo and the cable, in fact, you could make it an Enduro version very easily. The GT was typically devoid of all Street ware. Not alot of power, but reliable and awesome on gas. :)
That's a 1974 Yamaha GTMX 80, i have the same one except that mine doesn't have the speedometer, if you want anything from the manual send me a message on my profile and i'll email the info to you. hope this helps, Good luck.
@cftigerz Howdy. I see you mention that you have a manual for a 1974 GTMX 80, and I'd love to get one. I can't find one on the web. Is there a chance I could get a copy from you, sir ? Thanks for considering. Jerry
Gday if you havent got an answer on this it is for sure 100 percent a 1974 gtmx80a that is what it is called I have a 74 gt80a I am fully restoring I know all these 80's the mx 80 was non existint in 74 these were made and sold a bit cheaper because they didnt have all the road gear.
it should not have a speedo though and should have a front raceplate in yellow hope this helps if you still have the bike thanks Michael.
This bike is a 1974 Yamaha GT MX 80. The 1973 model was gray. The 1975 was white with yellow in the center. The GT 80 was an on & off road bike. The GT MX 80 was the same bike except it had no lights and it was a different color. This bike is a 1974 Yamaha GT MX 80.
GT-MX-DT are are the same bike in different configurations from early 70's till early 80's your i believe is a mx year is hard to tell take the vin number to your local dealer.
Dylans503, i think you are right, its an early 70's GT80, my friend a a GT50 i learnt to ride off in the 70's. Both 50 and 80 are identical except the cl. bore.
@tejastiger61 Do you know where I can find a transmission for this bike? I've looked in ebay but I am not sure if the parts are compatible because they are not of the same year or model bike.
@acadenas06 Dear Sir , I think I can help..... I would bet and I feel pretty damn sure you can find one in "Walneck's Classic Cycle" it seems they have one of everything or can point you to the right person .... You gotta check this rag out its awesome...... PLEASE PLEASE ..... let me know what happens ...... I will call my good friend who owns a Honda/ Yamaha dealership in Louisiana and find out if I might can locate a brand new one..........
it might be a 1984 yamaha MX80 but a fully restored one has a collector price of about $14,000 and accourding to this video the bike is semi restored which you can get about $7,000 for it from a collector
hell no i know my bikes and a fully restored yamaha 80 GT MX bike like this one sold to a collector can make about $7000 and i know for a fact that i can get $14,000 for my 84 yamaha dt 125 enduro bike. i've done my research so I'm not retarded and a 97 80cc or less bike can get you about $600
We removed to check out the fly-wheel. We've owned this bike for about 6 years and never have we hear it start till about a month ago. My brother and his friend got it started about a month ago. The problem was we were adding mixed gas in the tank which clogged the valve since it is oil injected. We took it to bike shop and they told us it had an airleak somewhere in the motor which was causing uncontolled RMS. That was complete bullshit. Its a good thing we didn't pay for the repair.
I need to find my model also. The only numbers I have are on the headstock?? I know its an 80,please see my vid. of it...Thanks to anybody that can help!
I used to have a MX100, I think mine was about 1975-76....I don't think there was much different between the motor of it an a YZ.....I would really fly....Same color scheme as yours..you have a MX...Mine did'nt have a speedo..I believe "gr8crashes" is correct..I also believe it was added from a GT....
You have a 1974 GT80MX. The speedo was added from a GT80 (street legal version) and it is only missing the stock rectangular number plate. A very nice old Yamaha mini.
that is actually a YZ 80, first year...i think 1975. they were rushed by the popularity of the Honda XR 75 and the Suzuki TM 75 and turned out to be a toad as it was merely a GT 80 without lights or instruments. 76 brought a redesign for the YZ 80 and Brian Myerscough succesfully campaigned it in California that year, landing a ride with FMF for 1977. now that was unheard of back then, a mini rider with factory sponsorship!
well its definately either an mx80 or gt 80. i can tell because the mx and gt 80s had a black engine, everything else was a bare metal. but as far as years go, i would say that its no earlier than a 77, and no later than a 81. i hope i helped.
well its hard to say i kno mines a Yamaha 1980 80cc Mx80 mine looks very similar but its got a different desinged seat and it could have had a spedometer at 1 time heres a video of it
hi it is a 1979 GTMX 80 i have the exact same one and i told the yamaha shop my serial numbers off of the motor and this is what it is it is classified as a GT and MX 80 im 1000000% positive about it well i hope this helped
I have a Yamaha GT80 1979 and looks the same except for the cilinder head. You should post the engine ID number to know what year is, as far it must start with 3J8-xxxxx
3J8 means 4 shifts and 72cc, the 3M8 one is 79cc and five shifts (i did the upgrade to the mine). Beautifull bike dude!
nice bike good condition i have a gt 80 mx to but its white and i love to ride it up and down the street ther fun little bikes but i rather go out on the trail wiht my ttr
its a 1983 or 84 yamaha mx 80 I got the same one only its a few years older and its white... if youve got a spare kick start laying around let me kno n ill buy it
yeah very cool bike i had one in red.that was in 1983 the bike is a yamaha 80 GT The next model that came out was a yamaha 80DT A slightly bigger version of the GT
It's a Yamaha MX 80 'Mini Enduro'. Could be any year, from the early 70's to the early 80's. Hope it helps. I had one of these, as my first bike.......way back when.
Oh, and the 2-stroke oil reservoir is empty (The little sight-gauge in the left-side panel). Fill it before you run the engine or you will destroy it.
It is a two-stroke engine, but you didn't have to mix the fuel as it would mix it for you, as long as you kept the oil reservoir filled with 2-stroke oil.
I had a 1973 Yamaha GT80 (My first bike) and the striping was different for the '73 model. I think yours is a 74 or 75 GT-80.
I loved that bike. I got it for my ninth birthday and it broke my heart when I outgrew it. I followed it with a 1979 Honda XL-100, then XL-125 and CR-125, then ... well, lots more; but the yamaha 80 was my first and still holds a special place in my heart.
It was my first bike, 1972. Found it under the christmas tree. Raced it at Elsinore TT every Saturday night. Ended up with a J&R power pipe, layed down Koni's, and a 34 Mikuni in it. After that I smoked all the XR 75's. YZ 80 came out in '73.GOOD TIMES!
Its a band that my safety teachers husband was in. they werent too big but they did play some huge shows. if you really want a copy, just give me an email and ill send you it. peace
that is, according to my 1974 buyer's guide, a 1974 yamaha gtmx 80. the gt 80 has lights, turn signals and a horn and it is street legal (or at least it used to be). the gtmx is the same bike stripped for dirt only. they populated lakeside mx for a few years between 74 to 78 along with the occasional honda four stroke.
It's a gt 80 enduro
mxboy80 3 days ago
I'm actually working on the very same bike. (Red) it's a 1974 Yamaha GT 80 Enduro. You can find parts on Dennis Krik and Bike Bandit.

joshv2005 3 years ago
use 2-stroke oil for the gas,,
and 10W30 or 10W40 for the crankcase
but don't over fill it
all you need is an inch and a halve of oil in the crankcase
"mine doesn't have a dipstick so i use a wire or long screwdriver to check the oil

It looks identical to a YZ 80 with the exception of the speedometer. I believe the only difference is the speedo.
NephilimFree 4 years ago
that is, according to my 1974 buyer's guide, a 1974 yamaha gtmx 80. the gt 80 has lights, turn signals and a horn and it is street legal (or at least it used to be). the gtmx is the same bike stripped for dirt only. they populated lakeside mx for a few years between 74 to 78 along with the occasional honda four stroke.
