Because of the election of some mediocre government that forgot the reason why they are there. I recognize that the USA has helped us but at a certain point through the history of our island it has taken shities decision too. Government is the problem. When a people are conditioned to rely on the government to take care of them, eventually the government fails to keep its promises. People have a right to thier life, their freedom, and the pursuit of happiness. It is governments job to protect those rights. Period. Every single yearly federal budget for this island is added to our future external debt. Even if we won our independence we would owe billions to the US. Quizas este nos diga como canalizan los donativos producto de la venta de droga a los lideres como Santini, "el alcalde periquero". Y esto se da en cada Barrio y residencial publico.

Puerto RIco is not the US. And it is extremely tendentious to portray Puerto Rico as such. Puerto Rico is an is an Island Nation that is held as a colony by the US. One cannot portray the condition of the Puerto Rican people by misrepresenting this issue. And Statehood means the apotheosis of colonization not freedom. Freedom-economic as well as political- can only be achieved with Independence.

It would simply be a different name for the same dynamic. One can make the argument that the people can still retain their identities, a la Hawaii or Alaska. But, last I checked, the conditions native Hawaiians and Alaskans live in are abysmal compared to the white settlers'.

Deberíamos incentivar a librerías locales como Castle Books, donde asistí el mes pasado a un book signing del libro de Prats y MacClinton en que se mencionó cerrarían en agosto, para que no tengan que cerrar y puedan comenzar a llenar el vacío de Borders. Ahora, Johnny Rockets estará acogido a ley de quiebras pero la semana pasada me tomé una sabrosa batida en el de Plaza Guaynabo. Ni han cerrado ni han despedido sus empleados. Patrocinémoslo.

El desempleo ya no es "nearly 17 percent" sino 15.2 por ciento. Mientras el desempleo aumenta a nivel nacional, está comenzando a bajar en PR. Sigue alto, pero en la dirección correcta.

I know people that own houses in Puerto Rico that they inherited and they dont pay taxes they still get welfare. I say let them have their independence and get no help from the US. Every single yearly federal budget for this island is added to our future external debt. Even if we won our independence we would owe billions to the US. Puerto RIco is not the US. And it is extremely tendentious to portray Puerto Rico as such. Puerto Rico is an is an Island Nation that is held as a colony by the US. One cannot portray the condition of the Puerto Rican people by misrepresenting this issue. And Statehood means the apotheosis of colonization not freedom. Freedom-economic as well as political- can only be achieved with Independence.

@Unclesamslair I think the person meant apotheosis. In this specific case, statehood would not provide a contrast to the Free Associated State (Estado Libre Asociado). It would simply be a different name for the same dynamic. One can make the argument that the people can still retain their identities, a la Hawaii or Alaska. But, last I checked, the conditions native Hawaiians and Alaskans live in are abysmal compared to the white settlers'.

And the REAL students that work their ass off can't even finish their thesis and their works. @piesenelagua Puerto Rico has ,more from America and given nothing back. The people enjoy all the same rights and benefits as every american and they dont have the same laws. They sell the birth certs to South Americans ,they import drugs ,they have gangs all over the US. I say kick them to the curb let them take care of them selves. The also look down on all other Latinos like they are better.

@piesenelagua ese es precisamente el problema...todo el mundo quiere vivir de ayudas gubernamentales si este chorro de vagos se dedicara a trabajar y no a robar quizá hubieran fondos para seguir dándole a los ancianos, pero mientras sigamos pagando la luz que la gente de la perla se roba y sigamos pagando le agua, luz, teléfono, plan medico a los dueños de los puntos de drogas que viven mil veces que la clase trabajadora...ese sera el resultado los mas necesitados seguirán pagando

@estastuloco te falta educacion, los estudiantes y cualquier ciudadano tiene derecho a protestar!!.... Para que la fuerza de choque?.... acaso los estudiantes estaban agrediendose entre ellos?... no verdad. Y si la universidad es la mas barata en un territorio americano es por que es la unica que es PUBLICA y no privada. Y mencioname algo efectivo que tuvo la ley 7, y por favor no uses los argumentos de los politicos. aah!! y Gracias a las APP y la privatizacion los peajes van a subir $ al ano
