Thanks for posting this. Jones was both eccentric and intelligent, and had the courage to challenge orthodoxy in a way that left us with new, beneficial discoveries. I've often been puzzled regarding why his Nautilus clubs and equipment, once so popular, seem to have all but disappeared - though his training methods still have a following. Re. his predictions: he was early in foreseeing the problem of a huge national debt, about triple now what it was when he spoke.

Jones was an intelligent man, but he was often wrong. In 1972, he told me, face to face, that within 5 years there would be concentration camps in the U.S. He also said that he was going to hold a bodybuilding contest with the biggest cash prizes in history, which he never did. He said that within 5 years he would control the food supplement industry, he didn't. He said he had been shot many times. Lack of scars in photos belie that.

yes, jones had a way with words. He liked to make waves, and he didn't hold back. Which was what made him succesful.

However, he is not god, nor would i advise trying to BE anything like jones...

Whoever said he was "god?" Certainly not me. Yes, the man had flaws, major ones, I'm more than aware of that. BUT he is extremely worthy of being called a great man. One of the greatest, in fact.

What defines greatness? worldly treasures? Financial success?

If that be so, than yes, he was a great man.

However, i do not define greatness in terms of temporal wealth....

That is all i meant.

Although i admit, i have tried to adopt some of his... Traits. Like for instance, his ability to 'say it like it is'(even if it pisses people off) and perhaps his dynamic work ethic. Those are traits very worth having...

Beethoven is right on - he was so great a man, he was one of the men of the 20th century - that's based on his work: substance not the fact that any of us had anything to do w/ him.

@Beethovens7th I met and spoke to Jones in Deland, Fla. in the mid 70s.

After being warned about him being a total prick , I found him charming and

funny as hell . After asking him to give his opinion on volume weight training he

barked at me , "keep it as brief as possible , you'd rather be down here getting

laid , would'nt you son"? LOL

@Beethovens7th A friend and I , both powerlifters, had just intended to

hit spring break. When I saw the signs to Deland , I figured why not visit

Nautilus . Jones liked the fact I was into RF electronics and my buddy was

curious about snakes and he opened up and treated us like our favorite uncle.

We hardly discussed weightlifting , ate lunch at the greasy spoon with him and

came away feeling like we met Nostradamus . You and he would have really hit

it off dude.

The more I read about Arthur Jones, the more I admire him. Even the way he talks and writes is great, and that's not even including the massive amount of wealth (In both money and information) that he has created.

This type of mans man really appeals to a lot of people tuff talkers and doers like Patton Jones and Boyd. Can anybody think of somebody else like them?
