Yeah, people in school thought I was some kind of weird, creepy, evil, devil worshipper, because I wore all black, no make up (I wasn't a goth/emo), but the few who actually took the time to get to know me found out that I'm not a bad person. My identity in school was quite polar, I was both famous and infamous at the same time, there were ignorant stupid asses who seemed to hate me for their own made up beliefs, and there were mature educated people who accepted me for the person I was.

Maintain a neutral position and people will recognize you for what you are, it may take quite a while to find these rare few, but you very likely do already have people who admire you from afar. "My stereotypes" are all over the place, 8th grade I was a redneck(lol), 9th grade I was a cheerleader/jock or an art kid. This year, I don't know, I'm happy mixing with everyone :). My belief on stereotypes and prejudice is that it's instinctual. Since the beginning of the human race we've had to make snap decisions on things that would harm or help us. My theory is stereotyping originated to provide instant reactions to dangerous animals, or to attack prey, instead of losing valuable seconds trying to make a decision. However, now we apply this to each other and we base our prejudice's and stereotypes off previous encounters with people who act or look similar.

I know this goes way outside the classroom. But the stereotypes now become or you are like that because your black or white or whatever ethnicity you are. Or you're like that because you live in this city or drive that car. I think we do that so we can have a tangible "object" or idea if what that person MIGHT be like based upon previous experiences via tv/friends/personal. And those people that fall into those stereotypes, generally speaking, are versions of it. Good or bad.

Once you get past high school and you reach an age or maturity level, you see that the steretypes don't really and never really did matter. When did stereotypes become a bad thing? When did discrimination become a bad thing? I don't get it. Without discrimination, human society simply could not function. You always have to make some underlining assumptions about people or you cannot get along, work together, or function.
Can I say something that doesn't have to do with stereotypes at all? It has to do with football. God loves Tebow and my prediction is for the superbowl, it will be Tebow(holy man) and his team(The Broncos), vs. The Saints. It will be holy. You should discuss this. Stereotypes and predudices exist for a reason. As any humanitarian would like to dispute, it is impossible to place all ethnic groups on the same, equal level. A group's genetic, cultural and religious aspect sets them apart from others. If they didn't, then stereotypes could not be formed.
Conflicts arise between different groups because of these aspects. Conflict that cannot, will never be resolved (IE: Religion). The behavior and nature of these groups did not happen by coincidence.
Stereotypes are just stupid hating on someone for being different there is no reason for that. honestly, I think that stereotyping (and bigotry) appeal to a natural cowardice in people, that it appeals to fear and drives people into pack psychology. some of it is promoted to oppress populations on behalf of certain greater interests. some is from home. Due to the process of evolution, forming stereotypes and prejudices are a survival instinct. "My stereotypes" are all over the place, 8th grade I was a redneck(lol), 9th grade I was a cheerleader/jock or an art kid. This year, I don't know, I'm happy mixing with everyone :). Stereotypes are stupid, you shouldn't use your knowledge of a few things a person does to create this whole belief that you know who they are.

I think it is really stupid to judge someone from what you see or hear the first time. Youre right, it is natural to judge people alittle, but to do it ALL the time is pointless. I am one of those people who is judged alot by the way I look makes me not judge people about the way they look. My bestfriends are populars, outsiders, and the awkwards and i dont judge them because theyre my friends. And yeah we have those "barriers" at my school, and i dont fit into any group. My belief on stereotypes and prejudice is that it's instinctual. Since the beginning of the human race we've had to make snap decisions on things that would harm or help us. My theory is stereotyping originated to provide instant reactions to dangerous animals, or to attack prey, instead of losing valuable seconds trying to make a decision. However, now we apply this to each other and we base our prejudice's and stereotypes off previous encounters with people who act or look similar.

I know this goes way outside the classroom. But the stereotypes now become or you are like that because your black or white or whatever ethnicity you are. Or you're like that because you live in this city or drive that car. I think we do that so we can have a tangible "object" or idea if what that person MIGHT be like based upon previous experiences via tv/friends/personal. And those people that fall into those stereotypes, generally speaking, are versions of it. Good or bad.

YAY! This is a marvelous Topic! MORE need to consider it, for it sneaks up on all of us in this WILD life we all live in. Terror and crime, drive us SO often to make that split decision to walk close to a 'shady looking' character while leaving a store is quite the example. We make decisions on a fractional scale all day long, and this topic surely wasn't such a big deal when life was full of Morality not so many years ago. It's almost a paradox for us in these days. :-((

In my opinion stereotypes are over expressed or over reacted trough out high school unless you have maturity. Once you get past high school and you reach an age or maturity level, you see that the steretypes don't really and never really did matter. What other people would think about you doesn't affect what the people who actually know you think about you.

Stereotypes and predudices exist for a reason. As any humanitarian would like to dispute, it is impossible to place all ethnic groups on the same, equal level. A group's genetic, cultural and religious aspect sets them apart from others. If they didn't, then stereotypes could not be formed.
Conflicts arise between different groups because of these aspects. Conflict that cannot, will never be resolved (IE: Religion). The behavior and nature of these groups did not happen by coincidence.

honestly, I think that stereotyping (and bigotry) appeal to a natural cowardice in people, that it appeals to fear and drives people into pack psychology. some of it is promoted to oppress populations on behalf of certain greater interests. some is from home. Hey, some really hate one team or the other, and they chant and rail "kill the enemy" at ball games... that promotes the instinct for this sort of thing IMO... glad I'm not in HS anymore lol

Stereotypes and Prejudices are completely unavoidable. People even form them about animals, think of rottweilers for example. Due to the process of evolution, forming stereotypes and prejudices are a survival instinct. The human race (and possibly other species) use them to avoid situations and animals that could be deemed hazardous to one's own survival.
