A bit of a cheat, if you notice the "box" is simply a a simple folded sheet cube (you can make one readily with a sheet of paper) it had negligable weight compared to the robot and those would not require recalculation of center of mass to lift while maintaining balance. THAT is the hard part..and they avoided it entirely with this literally paper weight "box". Still nice though.
Robots arent human. And machines dont learn very well. Not yet atleast. They are programmed very complexly to lift that box. Plen doesnt think "pickup box" it is thousands of lines of code used to determine where the box is how large it is and how to move to get there. People just think hey a box and pick it up.
You are right robots are not human. We are making them human. To pickup a box we program it to do.."x=bn5tyu".. Now all programers use "x=bn5tyu" and call it "b" .. Its evolution of sharing code between all robot makers that will make all the complicated code to seem like 1 or 2 simple programs rather than 2000.

These are impressive now that they've shown they can lift a box! Which is probably the only besides ASIMO(best humanoid robot) to lift objects.

true, besides, almost none of us fully program in 1s and 0s anymore. We're all developing really complex systems that seem relatively simple now.
