My intended statement was just this. For the past 8 years, Afghanistan has been on the "back burner". Sending 30k more troops is just turning up the heat a little, but still keeping it on the back burner.

im 18 i leave for air force basic training December 8th 2009 i got security forces. the only reason why i ask is cuz alot politics talk about wining wars but hardly any of them experienced this war first hand. Best advice I can give you. The night before you ship out, they'll probably have you stay in a hotel and leave for the airport directly from there.

Get to sleep as early as humanly possible, because that first day they'll have you processing paper work to about 4am, then your up again at 6am. Then you don't get a moments rest until bed that night.
