Ok, to set things straight, science cannot prove or disprove God, nor can it prove the origin of the universe- that is why there are so many theories out there. Like someone mentioned earlier, God requires faith to believe in Him, but He goes on to prove Himself to those who are willing to put their faith in Him at the beginning. "Seek me and you will find me when you seek me with your heart" (Jeremiah 29:11). The proof is that God never fails to reveal Himself to those who earnestly seek Him.

Scripture is based on the bible, the bible is based on god, and god is based by faith. And faith is NOT based by evidence and never will be. At no point does science contradict Scripture, only the "theories" do. Archaeological finds have found remains of places described in the Bible and scientific studies support events such as the flood and the crossing of the Red River by the Hebrews. And as I said before, God cannot be proved or disproved by science, but there is evidence for Him.

DO NOT sit there and act like Christians are the victims. Parents are instructed to "train up [their] children in the way [they] should go" (Proverbs 6:22), which is to lead them toward salvation but does not achieve it. Salvation is a choice that every individual must make for himself/herself. Allmost all christians think that the bible is the word of god, check 2tim 3 16. Lev 19 19 says you're not allowed to wear clothes made of mixed linen and wool (orders direct from god). This is the moses part (first part), since you don't know any of the laws, I think it is safe to say that you, like 98% of all christians, haven't even opened the book.

Funny thing is, I get the irony involved with religion, and I'm not like many of my fellow Christians that take everything literally either. But I'm not closed in 2 believing that 'proof', in a physical way has much 2 do 4 reasons 2 deny supernatural existence. 'Proof' for some usually implies that something must B tangibly accessible. If 'God' were 2 be a physical god, it would be easier, but that would defeat the purpose.. 'Proof' isn't always obtainable. There's proof as we know it, then,....

True, I believe in God, or a creator if you will, but I'm always curious about what other people have to say, so eventually I will read the rest of it. Yeah, I found the first chapter very interesting. My fellow Christian brothers will say that I am betraying God or sinning or something, but I think God will let me off the hook. While i agree, the Islamic faith is as intolerant and violent as any religion can be. Must we react with vulgarities and the threat of violence? Are we so threatened by Islam that we feel we must attack harshly where a reasoned counter argument would suffice?

Ananiasacts accuses me of preying on children yet, very clearly Scripture shows you should only be baptized after you have come of age and can make the decision for yourself to believe God or not. I do not take any childish insults personally since athiests are arguing with what God says, not anything I made up on my own. Ok, to set things straight, science cannot prove or disprove God, nor can it prove the origin of the universe- that is why there are so many theories out there. Like someone mentioned earlier, God requires faith to believe in Him, but He goes on to prove Himself to those who are willing to put their faith in Him at the beginning. "Seek me and you will find me when you seek me with your heart" (Jeremiah 29:11). The proof is that God never fails to reveal Himself to those who earnestly seek Him.

Yet there is no more evidence to support evolution than there is creationism, and Genesis explains how the world began when God created it, but since scientists don't include God in the picture, their theories are all inherently false because they are not based on the truth of Scripture. Therefore,
the concept of the origin of the universe is a matter of faith as much as science, and so evolution should be presented as the theory it is along with creationism or not at all.

Scripture is based on the bible, the bible is based on god, and god is based by faith. And faith is NOT based by evidence and never will be. At no point does science contradict Scripture, only the "theories" do. Archaeological finds have found remains of places described in the Bible and scientific studies support events such as the flood and the crossing of the Red River by the Hebrews. And as I said before, God cannot be proved or disproved by science, but there is evidence for Him.

Nowhere has it been proven in history or through scientific evidence. Hence, evolution is rightly labeled a "theory" rather than fact, and it's not a very supported one without much speculation and many holes, such as the possibility that all functioning parts of an organism were formed precisely and in their exact position by chance. Right I'll go slowly, a species, we'll call him species A, micro evolves through natural selection, these beneficial mutations accumulate until there is enough genetic difference between species A and the newly formed species B, that they cannot breed. This is speciation and has been observed:

@atheism616 some of these rare artifacts already have been revealed as hoaxes and do not come in numbers that support the theory of evolution, rather mutations. They would be a lot more populous today and the fossils found seem to have characteristics of two types of animals, which does not support your theory of microevolution occurring at multiple stages. Evolution is defunked.

Nope, we know that if we drop an object it will drop to the ground, this is the law of gravity, but it is gravitational theory that explains how and why this occurs. So gravity is both a law and a theory, but the fact that it is a theory does not lessen the weight of it's claims. Claiming that "it is only a theory," is an argument from equivocation. The scientific connotations of "theory" don't imply an educated guess but the best explanation of a set of observed results...

Nope, just completely wrong, sorry. Although mutations are random, natural selection isn't. Mutations provide the raw materials that evolution then "selects" for, if you want to learn how evolution works from real scientists not pseudo-scientists (yes I'm talking about creationists) watch DonExodus2 video on how evolution works. For evidence in support of evolution again I point you towards DonExodus2 excellent video series on the subject.

Those studies may not have been conducted by real scientists but rather religious pseudo-scientists who have a natural curiousity. It is my understanding that these people are not acknowledged by the scientific community. I think what you meant to say is that God cannot be proved or disproved by FAITH..not science. It is NOT the role nor the job of science to prove a god. That is up to the believer and always has been.

The list of people that Christians have tortured, lynched, burned, and driven from their homes in the name of God is so long that you'd need a giant book just to fit them all into one volume. Dawkins is the God of reason! Love him. Religion is the perfect way to relinquish personal responsibility and lay all the blame of bad behavior on a scape goat called the devil (who looks like a goat). All "sins" can be absolved and forgiven so the sinner can start fresh with a whole new batch of sinning that can just be forgiven again later, yes even murder, blah blah blah. Nothing learned.
No new insights, just the same old garbage of doing wrong to others and getting away with it.

@Blessings2UForever, why shouldn't we treat criminals with contempt? Religion exploits children by indoctrinating them. They have no way to be critical of it. And you can't blame the parents because they're victims too. But the clergy realize this, and could put a stop to it. That's why I consider them so negligent and the industry itself so heinous. If you want the freedom of religion for yourself, then you have no right to deny your own children that same liberty. Yet all religious people do.

@ananiasacts I can only speak of Christianity as a Christian. Parents are instructed to "train up [their] children in the way [they] should go" (Proverbs 6:22), which is to lead them toward salvation but does not achieve it. Salvation is a choice that every individual must make for himself/herself. I agree with you that many things can be preached that are false, and that is why we are encouraged to weigh everything with Scripture and the conviction of the Holy Spirit within us.

I love this guys approach to logically dismantling religion, reminds me of Matt from the atheist community of austin. I disagree with bits of Darwin and his views there, but he's right about the harm religion in general causes. Even religion must see this in other religion worldwide, is it really so insane yours could be that way to?

What a brilliant interview. How nice to see Prof Dawkins actually interviewed instead of being 'attacked' for his views. Having never seen the interviewer before, he strikes me as being of the Christian faith, and I was impressed by his impartial view and the relaxed way he conducted himself.

Religion is the man-made plague which serves the purpose of controlling those who are gullible. It should be exterminated at once; wars, homophobia, misogyny, etc. would cease if religion is not around.
It's fine to believe in a deity, but don't impose it on anyone else- Christians, Jews and Muslims- keep it out of institutions and in your hearts.

@inneruniverse17 I am a complete atheist, and think religion has done all sorts of harm throughout history, but I have to say that i really don't think all wars would end without it.
Conflict, when it comes down to it, is usually about material things - wealth, land, people etc. Religion, like any other unifying force, such as nationalism (which i also view as illogical) is certainly useful in motivatiing people, but is not the main cause of conflict. It's survival of the fittest.

Dawkins is amazing and so brilliant with flawless critical thinking skills and logic .. Does anyone know who can direct me to a debate with any well informed atheist with a christian where the christian does not get angry when hit with the realization that they have no foundation for their thinking? Are there any christians that would be up for a debate with myself who is capable of not getting angry , who will listen as well as wait to talk ... let me know.

Of course you can't prove religious doctrine, otherwise the thing would be pointless. If God showed himself to everyone, everyone would obviously believe in him. He doesn't show himself and uses just scvripture to inform us of his existence so that he can separate the ones who don't have faith from the ones who do. I am suffering from no "delsion", as Dawhins would say, I am merely suggesting that the existence of God is not "deluded" or ridiculous. It is less deluded and ridiculous than atheism

@phpeni I never said there was no evidence for the existence of God, because there is. There is no proof God exists, and it therefore takes faith to believe in God, which is the point I made in my earlier comment. Just because religious people have faith doesn't mean they believe everything they're told. As for the child, I see you have taken a great length of time to rifle through the Bible and find a quote to undermine me, but since that's in the Old Testament, I'm not surprised

Only fundametalist Christians (Creationists) believe this. I happen to not be one. Secondly, I have never said anything to the effect that I believe God cares what I wear, etc. Thirdly, belief in the Tooth Fairy is not as plausible as belief in God. If I believed that this guy created the universe, and that he had written a book, I would want to read that book.

@phpeni You can't prove God on the "basis of evidence", which I've been trying to explain to you all along. There is no evidence for the Tooth Fairy, but there is for God, ergo they are not "equally plausible". I never said Christians don't read the Bible, I said they don't know every word of it. Also, God is not a "guy", and hardly any Christians believe God wrote the Bible. Finally, God doesn't care about what I wear, and nowhere in the Bible does it say this. You lump all Christians together.

Allmost all christians think that the bible is the word of god, check 2tim 3 16. Lev 19 19 says you're not allowed to wear clothes made of mixed linen and wool (orders direct from god). This is the moses part (first part), since you don't know any of the laws, I think it is safe to say that you, like 98% of all christians, haven't even opened the book.

It is not man and not woman. Not all Christians believe God is male. God created MAN in HIS image, and god is referred to as him or lord throughout the bible. I know the old testament is bad, but that doesn't change in the new testament. There is still slavery, murder and women oppression. Read matt 5 17-20 to get jusus' take on the old testament, try reading the bible so you can see how ridiculous it is.

Space prevents me from giving evidence since I could rant and rave all day about evidence for God's existence. Also, "It", "Him", "Her", it's just semantics, it's all the same. Furthermore, the New Testament is better than the Old Testament. True, there is still slavery, murder and women oppression but less so than the Old Testament. Funny thing is, I get the irony involved with religion, and I'm not like many of my fellow Christians that take everything literally either. But I'm not closed in 2 believing that 'proof', in a physical way has much 2 do 4 reasons 2 deny supernatural existence. 'Proof' for some usually implies that something must B tangibly accessible. If 'God' were 2 be a physical god, it would be easier, but that would defeat the purpose.. 'Proof' isn't always obtainable. There's proof as we know it, then,....

@GorgeGeorg I was saying that the kind proof required could never be provided in the tangible sense, if you have an idea as to what supernatural means, that basically, it's faith vs science. Although, truthfully, I have no problem admitting that science and religion don't have to be mutually exclusive from one another. Trust me, my best friend is also an atheist and I don't try to push anything onto him. If you insist that I suffer from this God Dillusion, then I suppose you are correct!

True, I believe in God, or a creator if you will, but I'm always curious about what other people have to say, so eventually I will read the rest of it. Yeah, I found the first chapter very interesting. My fellow Christian brothers will say that I am betraying God or sinning or something, but I think God will let me off the hook. You see, I'm not like them in thinking that God is this vengeful and cruel God.
