  • he has the same name as me

  • Have seen your excellent live performance in Moscow, February 2007 (Triumph of Jazz), ft. Igor Butman, Alex Rostotzkiy, etc.and really enjoyed it.

Keep going and good luck. :)

  • What would you say are some of the best ways to learn jazz as a classically trained bassoonist?

    Thanks!

  • why is there a low bass tone throughout the video?

  • No sunglasses, no care.

  • thats awsome! i envy u!!!!!!!!!

  • Genius!

  • I was introduced to this guy by my guitar teacher. He is absolutely amazing! Truly an innovator. Pick up his CD, Bassoon on Fire! Absolutely incredible.

  • my bassoon teacher says that a neck strap for bassoon makes you indup having a back poster. is that true?

  • @herecomestheoh i think a neckstrap is fine for bassoon if you don't use it as an excuse to "hunch" over. maybe try a Harness instead of a neckstrap as that has less of a chance to cause an awkward body position.

  • this was just what I was looking for because I invited a bassoon player to my band, and i was not sure how it would sound

  • great!

  • sound like a saxophone

  • hmmmm yes like the trumpet sounds like a tuba. so similar. how uncanny. not.

  • Agreed. Doesn't sting or project like a sax can. It's just too mellow. Maybe if it was mic'd?

  • good Michael....bravo!

  • This was awesome!!!!!! i love jazz bassoon keep on playin!!!!

  • When I played I never thought to venture out into the jazz idiom with the Bassoon. Being a Sax player also - the Bassoon appears to have a little more room for expression. I mean, it's not an alto and it's not quite a tenor (sax)!

  • Michael: We came across your video. This is Fred and Lee from Grace Recording in Hamden. I remember recording you. You were always great and still are. Hope all is well with you and the music. It brought back fond memories!

    Fred

  • holy shit that was so awsome the bad thing is i want to play bassoon but i play the clarinet

  • haha i play the bassoon but if u want something preety close to the bassoon i should plat the bass clarient or contra bass clarient

  • I got the bassoon on fire cd from my wife, this mr rabinowitz is very talented. If you guys really appreciate Jazz and liked this clip, you should really purchase the cd. It will not disappoint!

  • amazing - more please!

  • the bassoon should do jazz more often!

  • good..very good.try with a contrabassoon @+ michael

  • felicidades nunca pense el fagot puedira hacer jazz tan wapo..un saludo

  • I love it do you have a myspace ??? P.S. I never heard jazz basson but you pulled it off

  • Several years ago, I purchased the Bassoon on Fire CD, because I had never heard a jazz bassoon before. It's very worth hearing, love that tone.

  • saweeeeeeeeet

  • You have a great tone for Jazz!

Could you please comment/critique my bassoon solo in my profile?

  • First time I've been 'convinced' that bassoon can truly do jazz. And I've been playing 13 years. Awesome!

  • are you bending the notes with the reed or with your fingerings or both?

  • with my embouchure, mainly.

  • sick like the flu and crazy like the glue!

  • Wow I didn't think there could actually be a jazz bassoon but here one is. Wow. Thank you for that!

  • Awesome!

  • owww great...
