Slavery began in the 1600's and the civil rights movement started shortly before the Emmett Till death. With 400 years of hatred of Blacks in America, it's hard to watch this as an African-American and trust that a psychological change in whites has occurred. Especially seeing much of this hatred displayed openly towards our current U.S. President by Conservatives. Have white America really embraced love/acceptance towards minorities or is it just something "cool" to do?
This is such a wonderful film! I rented it from Netflix & highly recommend it! We need this kind of momentum for today's problems! Great history lessons that we should NEVER forget. Inspirational and moving!
I just watched this film with my 9yr old twins to educate them about the struggles our people had to go through to get the freedoms we share today. This film was very powerful, provoking, and moving. The songs was sung full of spirit and the message of the film was full of hope.
This video enrages me. I want to be moved by the lyrics, but I can't get past the injustice in the footage. It amazes me that the official stance of the conservative movement is that the civil rights movement wasn't necessary and that people of color didn't have it all that bad. Please, please, please, people. I am begging you. Vote. Or I'll bet you everything I have you can look forward to these days again. That's not paranoia or hyperbole. That's history.
I saw this Monday also, and I still cant get some of the footages out of my head. It stays with you long after the movie is over. The unity of all the young people apart of this movement was unreal! I would love to buy this film if it will be releashed for purchase. I didnt get to see the movie after this one though, which was fiction.
If anyone saw it, tell me how it was?
PS: JOSS STONE performance was OFF THE CHAIN!!!!!!!!!!
Saw it today in Stockholm, Sweden on the Filmfestival and it is a must see one of the best movies I have seen. It gives hope that you can change things
Powerful! If you want to see it, there's a screening on the Stanford campus on 10/15/09. I can't post a URL here, but Google "Events at Stanford Soundtrack for a Revolution" and you should find it.
Check out this film at the 32nd Annual Mill Valley Film Festival, playing October 8 - October 18, 2009. Tickets are available at the Festival's website.
