Agree, but do malwarebytes in SAFEMODE as well. Full scan if you have another partition in the disk. Malware does not remove Rootkits very well, but Combofix has worked well. With ComboFix, disable your antivirus as it may interfere with ComboFix.

Combofix can still ruin your computer even if you know how to use it,Thats because it will delete any files that is infected.That means if a system file is infected,it will delete that as well.

ya it worked for me i was unable to get latest definitons updated for my antivirus software program and this combofix worked and i was able to update again. however i'd luv to know what the heck infection was implanted on my pc that did this without my knowledge. could have been a game but i'd luv to know from the report it made.

The best time to scan your pc, is as soon as you realize that you got the virus. At this point, you should disconnect from internet, in case the virus rogue updates itself to download more viruses, or in case the virus changes internet browser settings. After scanning once goto safe mode and scan again the whole pc, using all of these:

Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware

SUPERAntiSpyware

ComboFix

SmitFraud

Avast

Some detect viruses better than others, so best to use all of them.

If you just kill your browser if you get the anti-virus 2009 pop-up then it doesn't infect you, DO NOT CLOSE IT BY THE X, just open taskmanger, go to processes, select your browser, and press Kill Process, and you don't get infected

Thanks, Combofix is a virus remover but it also tries to repair damaged or missing files that have been corrupted by virus attacks. You probably don't need it.

OMG!!! Thank you soooo much for posting this. It really helped me out alot and erased all the viruses on my computer. I have both malwarebytes and mcafee on my computer and neither of them detected the viruses that were found, and I couldn't update them to their latest version either. When I ran the combofix. it immediately detected them and it only took about 7 minutes for the whole scan. I thought I wasn't going to be able to do my school work on my laptop again. Thanks!!! With IE open, after you close any error messages or whatever you get, go to tools, internet options, click on connections tab and then the lan settings button, make sure you have no check marks in these box's, you may find that the virus has enabled the proxy server.

Also under the security tab, click on each zone and hit the default level button.

Avast is automatic, the on-demand scanner is only if your computer already had a virus before you installed avast and you can't start the automatic scanner

I tried kaspersky, it didn't find anything, and now avast is above kaspersky and its free, and AVG is worse than Norton, so just get Avast! home edition for free, its free and its the best anti-virus I've ever used
