  • A very good tribute.

  • I first watched MASH a month ago. whole 11 seasons in 5 days. Henry's death has affected me the most! It was so unexpected I was shocked for whole day!

  • Where radar tells everyone about Hengry dying in that plane crash I think (and still and forever think) is the saddest moment of that series.

  • I remember when they killed Henry. The was the last episode of the series. At least the last episode that mattered. This character rocked and he deserves a better song than a country song. As does McLean Stevenson, not only one the greatest actors on MASH but also one of the best teleplay writers the show had.

  • Here's an idea: let's insult someone's memory with a crappy country song.

  • @Zwei4815 HERE HERE!!!

  • ive only seen the end of the episode, but i read the book for mash, so i was still sad..... :(

  • good video

  • When radar told the surgons...."I have a message. LT. Cournel ( radar pauses) hengry Blakes plane (pauses) was shot down over rhe seas of Japan.........it spun in............there were no survivors" That was the saddest line ever on that show. It was sad when Radar went home but THIS was the saddest moment ever on that series. it still chokes me up.

  • @TheMashwatcher585 i felt sorry for radar in the 6th season when he got hit by shrapnel and hawkeye shouted at him. poor guy

  • You do realize, he was a fictional character, right? I'm not judging you, just wanted to make sure you knew.....

  • @sparks277 we all know that. but its just that he seemed like a real person, he was a good actor.

  • McLean Stevenson made the show those first 3 years - and his Henry was based on the movie MASH. A bumbling, stumbling loveable character - and MS took it to the next level. Henry was all about , ironically, just getting through the day, drinking to forget where he was, and getting out alive. It was PERFECT casting. When he left, Col. Potter's character, while also loveable, was sober, competent and compassionate. A complete change. (I'll Be Seein' Ya, Henry!)

  • I agree the first 3 seasons were the best. MASH was a great show but it stayed on too long, imo. I didn't watch too much of the show the last 2 or 3 seasons. It was same old lines and set up over and over.

  • RIP henry :(

  • I agree the first years M*A*S*H's where very funny, later years turned too politicial like trying to be a drama within a sitcom

  • @Airman241 I call it more human. Some ppl have political views & still are decent. Some believe only in somebodys ideas and forget to be decent, sadly.

  • I really cried when I saw the episode where Henry Blake was being being discharged from the Army. And this was before I heard about Henry's copter shot down over the Sea of Japan by enemy fire. Can you imagine Frank Burns the Commanding Officer of the 4077? The show would've been canceled within the year!

  • henry blake and trapper were the best. mclean, if I remember this correctly, wanted to get off the show to pursue other opportunities seeing as he was a popular character in the mash series... except his plans didn't work out.. he never should've left!

  • @bostonupschick That is true, and I was wondering for a while if David Caruso took a page out of mcLean's book when he left NYPD Blue at its' apex.Luckily,he lived to tell when he got hired on CSI.

  • @bostonupschick That is true, and I was wondering for a while if David Caruso took a page out of McLean's book when he left NYPD Blue at its' apex.Luckily,he lived to tell when he got hired on CSI.

  • They killed Henry because McLean Stevenson was leaving the show. He wanted more money than they wanted to pay him.

  • Great actor....and great job of picking music too!

  • I choked up when I saw this. My whole family is or was in the military and I remember times when I went to funerals and there would be no body because the army couldn't find it. R.I.P everybody who fought and died for our country.

  • what year was it that henry blake died for real??? and what was it from??? thanks and godbless.

  • poor mclean stevenson. He left us at the wrong time. Age 65

  • I like Mclean Stevenson, he was funny and he played a good drunk.

  • Did he die in real life too? Or just in the show at the time

  • @Frenchfry147 McLean Stevenson left us, February 15, 1996.........

  • McLean Stevenson had apparently been upset by the fact that his Henry Blake character got killed off because he had hoped the door would have remained open for his return, but it wasn't meant to be and McLean Stevenson never did become that solo star that he aspired to be.Instead,it was just one failed project after the other!RIP McLean

  • RoadRacer, I coudn't have said better when you said he had a "Heart of Gold"

He had such a 'Warm Expression"when he smiled. My his family know how much he was loved and respected.

  • Couldn't have said it better myself.

  • Roger Bowen died one day after Henry Blake or Mc'lean?

I saw Mc'lean on stage at Bally's in Vegas n '87. I was so entranced with seeing him in person that I don't even remember the play, LOL!!

  • RIP Roger Bowen. You started the Role of Henry Blake onscreen. You were Great.

Mc'lean Stevenson, you ARE HENRY BLAKE ! Henry is Legendary and immortal. No one could have played Colonel Blake every week like Mc'Lean Stevenson did. he was a Klutz as a Hospital Adminstrator, but a Genius with a Heart of Gold in the Operated Room. iof we have men like this ,Our soldiers are Safe.

  • In a bit of strange coincidences, Roger Bowen, who played Henry Blake in M*A*S*H the movie, died the very next day, also from a heart attack.

  • Wow that's eerie phanomeagle

  • i usuelly absolultey hate country music, but it suits the video. RIP McLean stevenson.

  • good bye henry

    RIP LT COLONEL HENRY BLAKE

  • Harry Morgan in great new bio (Charlton Heston: An Incredible Life: revised Edition) at amazon! At Amazon where they sell Mash dvd's it says that Stevenson was very much afraid of Conrad Bain (Bain was on the vampire soap Dark Shadows and Stevenson worked with him on Hello Larry!)!

  • The big C takes the best of us. RiP Colonel Henry Blake.

    14 November 1927 - 15 February 1996

  • Actually, McLean Stevenson passed away of a heart attack while in the hospital waiting to have surgery for gall stones. That's how I remember it.

  • What was I thinking? I knew that even. I am not even sure why I said that.

  • That's okay ... I remember hearing that his passing was unexpected and quite a shock to his family, the cast of MASH and his fans.

  • i think Larry Linville aka Frank Burns aka Ferret Face died of cancer.

  • Aww, great vid! Henry was a great character - I cried so hard when he left/died :'( Specially the part where Radar salutes him and he runs back. "You behave yourself or I'll come back and kick your butt."

Greats line: "Done move, Korea! This is a stickup!" XD

Gotta love that man! RIP McClean!

  • Henry could be the goof but he had so many brilliant human moments. My favourite is him talking to Hawkeye after Hawkeye's friend dies on the table.

I don't know. If I had the answer, I'd be at the Mayo Clinic. Does this place look like the Mayo Clinic? Look, all I know is what they taught me at command school. There are certain rules about a war. And rule number one is young men die. And rule number two is, doctors can't change rule number one.

  • Colonel Henry Blake was not the career military man, unlike Colonel Sherman Potter, and that's why I liked him more because he had been more of an anomaly.

  • @landrykkb Yeah i agree with what you're saying. Henry was a lot more like us though I have to admit it is hard for me to pick between Potter and Blake because Harry Morgan did a brilliant job when he came by bringing something different to the role.

    RIP McLean Stevenson

  • I saw this episode today, for the first time. although i knew what was going to happen, i sobbed like a baby as soon as Radar saluted Blake at the helecopter. I nearly collapsed when Radar announced the death.

rest in peace, Lt. Colonal Henry Blake, and McLean Stevenson. <3

  • Those were Gary Burghoff's actual tears because him and McLean had a wonderful charisma and rapport together! The thing was he even had the same thing with Harry Morgan too.

  • I loved Lt. Colonel Henry Blake. What I'll never forget about Henry was all the times he neutralized that Asshole Major Frank Burns in protecting Capt. Hawkeye Pierce. Frank got "A Little Too Big For His Britches" as a Major.

  • Blake and Radar made the best team. Radar knew exactly what Blake wanted. They made the 4077 run smoother. Good comedy team too. =]

    rest in peace<3

  • R.I.P Lt.Col.Henry Blake

  • The funniest MASH character and my favorite. The show was never the same without Henry and Trapper.

  • Amen to that. Never the same.

  • RIP McClean

  • Henry Blake made that show

  • That was a good video. McClean was great in that show. It was sad to see him leave the show and now he is gone. Excuse me i have something in my eye. (sniff sniff)

  • Henry was a doctor drafted that i hope if we ever have to do this again there is someone like him

  • Henry was far better, and I agree the first 3 seasons were the best.

    R.I.P. McLean Stevenson

  • @SkunksMonks In a strange twist of fate,M*A*S*H's ratings had skyrocketed because of Henry Blake's final episode and while there were several heartwrenching moments prior to that episode, this was the one that grabbed everybody's attention during M*A*S*H's formative years.

  • To those of us who have lost a loved one to AIDS........may they rest in peace.

  • The BEST charakter.

  • The end of that episode when Radar comes in and tells everyone Henry died, that get's me every time. :(

  • @BrookeFitting they were all working on wounded when radar came in . and they all have to just carry on . that all ways get me that episodes

  • @BrookeFitting that was the saddest episode

  • @BrookeFitting @2 year old comment, but that episode played again today, I've been sad since it. really effecting my work effort. Dammit Radar, why'd you have to tell us all? :C

  • The show was never the same after Henry & Trapper left.

The first couple of seasons, were pretty good, but the overall show never did have the same feel to it...

  • he was one of the best

  • I miss Blake, I felt bad for Radar

  • he was so good, I wish he hadn't left

    the song fits perfectly

    henry blake is the best

  • Where can I find the video of the scene where they announce that he died?? Sooooo sadddddd

  • and he doesn't know we still miss him, what a shame

  • that was the finale for me was season 3, when they decided to kill off Henry Blake. after that, i still liked the show, but it was never the same.

  • this made me cry. this is my mom's favorite show and i watch it with her a lot and i was crying like a baby when he died :(

nice song choice. reminds me of my brother and sister too :'(

  • thank you for doing this. this made me cry. great song choice

  • I remember the episode when Henry was suppose to go home, but his plane crashed.. i cried like a girl:(

    so sad</3

  • guess you missed the Caroll Burnett show the next night. it showed Henry in a smoking raft swinging his arms, saying "Im OK! Im OK!"

  • EPIC WIN.

  • @TonytheTiger85 I had no idea that had ever happened!I would have been way too young at the time that aired to appreciate it,mind you.I wonder if that footage exists here on You Tube.

  • this brought tears to my eyes..... i miss him.......

  • love it!

  • I got to tell you, I knew McLean and he was a wonderful man. He played Lt.Col. Blake to a tee in my book. His seasons of M*A*S*H were quite possibly the best of the whole run. I do miss him and wish he was still here to see this. I loved it every time he referred to old Bloomington IL, where I am from as well. I worked at the Country Club he referred to in his last episode. Anyhow, I am starting to get all mushy and such so thanks Henry and God Bless.

  • @DonCorleone1 My condolences to you, friend. It was McLean's passing 21 years after his final M*A*S*H episode that madeHenry Blake's death all the more spookier.Although several of his acting projects after that never panned out,he did rediscover success on a more moderate scale as he had become a permanent panelist towards the end of Match Game's run in the early 80's.

  • Lots of Star for this. Nice tribute to Col. Henry Blake.. Again nice video.. Wonderfully done

  • forget that last post i see it at the beginnng of the video now, doh!!!

  • whats this song?

  • who you'd be today by Kenny Chesney. It says it in the opening credits...

  • this song is so sad....., bu ti love it!

    awesome amv!

  • i hate that henry died..., but it also stinks that mclean steavenson died too......................

  • "Absynnia Henry" is probably one of the saddest M*A*S*H episodes ever! Great Job! 5*! Keep up the good work. McLean Stevenson is and always be missed! R.I.P. McLean!

  • I'm so sad that McLean was dead :( He was good actor, and like said Radar, : 'He was the best captain that i've eveer had, he was like father'

    R.I.P Mr.Stevenson

  • @Titanicfreak12 The irony is that all the cast had cried genuine tears because of McLean Stevenson's departure from the show,so you can't necessarily say that it was just great acting. As far as I know,it was unbeknownst to even the cast members that Wayne Rogers would also depart after that season during the filming.

  • RIP [*]

  • This song rocks! I haven't heard it on the radio in along time. Also good music theme becuse he died in a plane crash when he was going home.

  • henry was awesome...

just last night, i was watcginh an episode where a shipment of 500,000 toung depressers was sent to the 4077th, hawkeye and bj were sitting in the officers club, and hawkeye draws out four depressers from a pile. picking one up, he sais, " Trapper john goes, in comes bj hunnicutt. no different,a good replacement",or something like that. picking up another, he says,"Frank Burns goes, in comes carles emmerson winchester the 3rd, only a hair's difference".

  • another depresser, "Henry Blake,Rest in peace henry,(snaps depresser in half),just simply replaced by col. potter..."

    that was sad...

i love this song, awesome video.

  • megadanishlolly you hit the nail on the head so true fantastic tribute he was the best.

  • thanks

  • Henry Blake was the most touching character on M*A*S*H and this song goes so perfectly with the vid. you rock, mstone2006!

  • good song, good vid. i loved it!

  • awesome vid. henry was one of my fave characters next to hawk and trap.

  • Man, Colonel Blake can drink. I enjoyed it as well when he was shitfaced drunk in some of the episodes. Good thing that psychotic cowboy didn't drop Colonel Blake from the chopper in that one episode. I enjoyed that episode a lot.

  • he's funny when he's drunk. and, just as funny when he's night.

i liked the episode with radar's and henry's conversation. this one:

    Radar: "Colonel?"

    Henry: "Not now, Radar."

    Radar: "Oh, but, sir..."

Henry: "Radar, whatever it is, sign it, cancel it, or order five more."

that's funny. especially what henry says at the last part.

  • when i typed and just as funny when he's night, i ment just as funny when he's not, i didn't mean to type night.

  • turns out my sons favorite movie had mclean stevenson and harry morgan in it, the two commanders on MASH

  • Cat From Outer Space?

  • yea i think thats the name lol

  • he left too soon twice in his life

his kid on the show never got to see him

they say he and trapper wanted out because they were supposed to be equals with hawkeye,

i heard he had family problems, RIP Mclean Stevenson and Larry Linville

  • According to the late Larry Linville(Major Burns),Wayne Rogers(Trapper)had other irons in the fire as well with his investments in real estate and what have you that were far more lucrative to him as well as not wanting to his Trapper character to be Hawkeyes sidekick. Those first 3 seasons were far more comical than the 8 that followed!

  • why'd they have to kill him? he was one of the best characters =*( damnit i grew up listening to his rerunned episodes too

  • he wanted out of the show same with trapper

  • Wayne Rogers(Trapper)had basically got tired of being Hawkeye's sidekick along with already being financially stable from his personal investments and what not, while McLean Stevenson wanted to pursue an acting career as him being the entire limelight. That never panned out too well, needless to say.

  • Just the realities of war

  • They killed Henry off because the point of the show was to tell what war was really about. In the 30th anniversary reunion, Gary Burghoff says that they promised each other that they wouldn't make war seem like a Hollywood movie. They killed Henry because they wanted to show that good guys dying in war is a reality.

  • Well that was the only logical course to travel with Henry Blake's character then! His being killed off was probably also a hidden message to McLean Stevenson that you have no idea what you're doing to your career by leaving MASH!

  • Exactly, and that's why it was fitting to send Henry Blake's character off that way, even if it was a tragic ending.

  • @laughitup68 I am asking myself the same thing

  • @laughitup68 I have just looked through the wikipedia page and it says that it was his own choice to leave MASH...Pity..

  • it would have been nice if henry had made it home.

  • I saw the "RIP McLean Stevenson" and panicked, but I checked IMDb and he died back in 1996. Poor guy.

I grew up on MASH reruns and Henry was one of the best characters ever created for television.

  • Everything sadly have an end, to bad.. I loved him in M*A*S*H he was a smile for me on the grey days.. Thank you R.I.P My friend until i see you again:)

You will never bee forgotten <3

  • RIP McLean

  • THANK YOU

  • OMG! I love it! And the song really did work out. :D

    AWESOME JOB!

    R.I.P. Henry Blake/McLean Stevenson!!! <3
