  • i love avatar

  • i so love this movie!!!!!

  • great animation .. =)

  • Hurt Locker is propaganda !

  • I really think Hurt Locker was a good movie but nothing compared to Avatar... Hurt Locker has a monotone type of song and it was repeated a lot plus it concentrates on a life of a soldier.... The theme has been seen before so many times... whereas Avatar is more open-minded... it covers more ground when it comes to how several different type of ppl behave... it's really entertaining and the imagination behind is really out there.... It truly is something new and creative

  • hurt locker was a fine movie.. well made.\

but come on man.,. avatar is d legend

  • awseome movie.

  • this movie, the animations

    made me remember another one

"Pan's Labyrinth" the most Realistic movie i have seen.

  • was it just me, or did anyone else find the blue peoples strained english just. . . painful??

i kept half expecting them to greet the humans with "How, White man!" it was so awful. . .

did anyone else find themselves thinking "no-legged virgin finds a way to have legs AND a girlfriend so he convinces himself that he belongs with aliens who are so backward uneducated and primitive that theyll probably revere him as a god? SHOCKER!" every 12 year old boys fantasy is what that movie is, lol!

  • Yes, Avatar had some corny dialogue, and some naive remarks. And , yes, better graphics or whatever you want to call it, have been done better in the past. What I think Avatar lacked, was a true blending of the great message it brings us, and the technology. But, was it worth for an Oscar? I don't believe in awards. Everyone has it's own favorite, it's own song...

  • fdghdf

  • Avatar could make Oscar history???? jajajaja Keep On Dreaming!!!!

  • I liked both movies but don't think either should have won for best pic. The Hurt Locker was good but I didn't think it was anything special.

Avatar is just fun and entertaining but no performances stand out for me.

  • Great movie! Love it.

  • the movie defeated the computer

  • Avatar had the same problem with the matrix. It was snobbed because it is too sci-fi risqué and too much political implications. Hurt Locker won because it is safe and conveinient! The films that have the most success abroad never do locally.

But it doesn't matter, James Cameron created something far beyond Oscar-worthy!

  • ok let's take it like this..imagine avatar WITHOUT the special effects...it ain't that "special" anymore is it?...so thank those guys that made the effects instead of thanking cameron...

  • cameron created a new kind of camera, so yes, thank him

  • Avatar was risque? What the hell are you smoking?

The "Big, corporate, capitalist white man is evil and loves to rape the environment" story has been done for ages now and is widely accepted as true by the public (Dances With Wolves won Best Picture in 1990, even beating out the far-superior Goodfellas). There's nothing "risque," or even minutely thought-provoking, in Avatar because we've seen it before.

  • And that's what tick you off more than anything else. Hurt locker was pro-american while Avatar SHOWED what america was and still is in some part. But the part of risqué I'm talking about is the ET visual concept and otherwordly atmosphere.Get it?

It is still beyond STUPID politic and that will ecxel beyond the movie.

  • Okay, first you say it had too many political implications, and now you're saying it is beyond politics? Make up your mind, or write properly.

The Hurt Locker was not "pro-American." It was about the addictiveness of war, not "Go America, blow up them brown folk and get me mah gas!".

There's also nothing wrong with being pro-American (so long as one is not obnoxiously so).

  • And to say that Avatar shows what America is? It shows what LOTS of other countries, no, the majority of people are. People were screwing over native cultures and the environment long before America was even a country.

The world of Avatar was not "otherworldly." Every single creature was just a creature from Earth with a change in color and an extra set of limbs. All the plants looked just like plants on Earth. Even the sky was the exact same color as it is on Earth.

  • Funny that you were talking about the Avatar world being too similar with our world. Well, ain't it funny that Nasa Still needs to cover up pictures that look similar to our planet apparently when they find some? But of course the similarities are a smarter way of initiation so to not scare the public to much. It was also a way to capture people interest by using human drama to project them toward something of another level, so otherworldy.

  • you're a fucking idiot. did you even watch the hurt locker?

  • YES I did. How could I compare if I didn't

DUMBASS? Hurt Locker is just overrated

drama about all the shit we already know

    about war.

  • The most watched movie of all time. The people have spoken.

It is no surprise we know who runs holly weird, the same people who voted for Obama and gay marriages. It is sad.

  • @steelrhino

yeah "most watched movie of all time" couldnt have possibly had anything to do with the TONS OF CASH they dolled out hyping this remake of ferngully, or the fact that most everything else out at the time, and shortly before it, sucked?

the people indeed have spoken, again and again. . .and what theyve said is theyll do what theyre told, watch what theyre told, and love what theyre told.

  • @DazmoTube hyped up bro? i'm an avid movie watcher and i saw short avatar trailers about only about two weeks before the movie came out, whereas most movies trailers at months at norm and possibly even a year. yes avatar was an expensive investment but to the artistry, thought, and complete visionary of the director is incredible. you yourself is being a full on hard-headed douchebag by reject other's opinions. keep in mind the script was being written since the mid 90's.

  • @toyshankemo2

visionary? the entire theme has been done to death 1000 times, and is too kitsch to have even been nominated for an award. lets go over a few of these "visionary" elements in the movie. . .unobtanium? is that toungue in cheek? pandora? so aliens knw greek mythology. . . guess it kinda makes sense since theyre fucking NATIVE AMERICANS with sex hair.

there was nothing visionary about this movie. at all. i cant believe it took ten years for him to finally drop this turd.

  • @toyshankemo2

the ONLY redeeming factor about this movie is the exquisite animation and art - and only in the delivery, not the design. as ive said before the overall aesthetic is kitsch, but it is kitsch done beautifully.

    no points for acting.

    no points for directing.

    no points to writing.

    no points for storytelling.

ALL POINTS to 3D animators and artists (assuming they were merely doing what they were told, and werent responsible for the pisspoor creative direction.)

  • @toyshankemo2

also, the only oscar this massive overblown overbudgeted multimillion dollar bowel movement abortion of a movie received was for art. ART. thats all. everything else was shit and the fact that it looked pretty comes nowhere AT ALL near scratching the surface of the giant frozen shitpickle that is avatar.

also, i think the reason cameron waited ten years to birth this fracas is because last decades young peolpe had taste (and ferngully, which this move is a ripoff of)

  • Why did Hurt Locker win, i mean, why?! It is everything against the message Avatar is giving us!!! A movie about us humans invading another country for pleases. We should feel sorry for them, but not sorry as "Oh, you are all dieing for the best country in the world just to give all our rich punk ass bitches some gasaline to drive around in our chevs, we should be proud of your death and sad by it"

NO, we should feel sad for them becasue they are taking without giving something back!!!!

  • @metafixi What the hell does "messages" have to with winning best picture? Besides, Dances with Wolves won Best Picture for the exact same story last century.

  • It takes more for a best picture of the year than to have a preachy environmental story that was better executed in a 90s animated kids' movie.

  • @metafixi I agree. Although the story in Avatar was used before, its HOW it was presented. I loved Avatar. I respect people opinions, but I hate how they just rant on how it sucks. Their just trying to be different.

  • Shame on oscar. they let politice effect them to choose best picture. the messege of avatar was beautiful and against the US policy around the world and because of that Hurt locker must win.

  • Absolutely! Avatar is more timeless then, the hurt locker. i think the fact that the director is a women and that the film hurts the zeitgeist makes it not better. the oscar failed ths year really with this award and with sandra bullock omg so much better roles!

  • what are you smoking? Avatar is the least timeless movie ever created, completely technology and gimmick driven - soon every movie will outstrip this one probably in 5 years or less

  • Agreed. Hurt Locker was okay. It's one of those movies you watch once, not much replay that AVATAR had. Maybe the sequels will win for us. The Academy Awards fail, once again. They failed me last year by not have Dark Knight, but instead, Slumdog won? The Dark Knight had better reviews, if that makes any sense.

  • It's completely retarded that Avatar didn't win for best movie! Just as retarded as giving the Oscar to Sandra bullock for a "white woman saves the day" b-movie of the kind we've seen a billion times before.

  • @TheOpinionater you racist

  • You must be joking.....;)

  • hey the Title failed lol

  • Shut up retard...

  • all those stupid movies won because Ohprah said so..

they all gay movies.. but Avatard is more like an XBOX video game than a movie.

whatever happened to the old good bad and the ugly days is beyond me..

  • It is very sad that they let down something as great as Avatar to let the FAG locker win.

Americans voted for Bush twice, it is no surprise.

  • Dazmo your right but... I mean it's a different kind of war

and what i want to add is ... before the oscar night... everybody was like ... GOD DAMN AVATAR LOVE IT

and now everyone does like they are the hardest guys and knew it would come that way

    Gotta laugh about that xD

  • @the0jedi

some people didnt like avatar from the beginning, but their voices were drowned out by the fanboy fapping!

  • i mean ... weren't there enough machine guns in avatar for the americans? xD

  • I love this movie soo much

  • hm...

    i don't kno...

I mean ... a film about war (hurt locker) smashes this peaceful wonderful film, which just gave us more than a feelin of freedom and really moved the minds of men... Jah, thats america...weapon freaks...

Tja ... some people really fit in this world...Sorrow for the ones who can't see and who can't think

  • @the0jedi

yeah . . . avatar wasnt about war at all :-\

even though that was the WHOLE PLOT OF THE DAMN MOVIE

  • come to think of it the music video for "stylo" had better animation, and better plot than avatar haha :) james cameron is a douche.

  • one thing that i CAN say about this movie is that i CANT say it lacked "depth" :) get it? hyuck, hyuck!

but yeah the plot was about as deep as the wet spot on your moms panties.

  • and with lines like "You're not in kansas anymore! you're on pandora!"

anyone else groan? that was painful. . . and WTF? pandora?? i thought it was an alien planet. . .

just think about things like this, avatar fans, and you wont have to be so sad that it lost.

youll actually be glad, like everyone else with any common sense :)

  • Wonderful graphics, a spectacle for the eye, but a story for the lobotemised with corny dialogue and zero script.

  • avatar 2....... wooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

  • hmmmm... in hindsight

  • Yeah but Avatar was total shit.

  • all you angry avatar fans lol

i hate to say i told you so but...i did :)

  • it got 3 you dumbass. and everyone knew it wouldn't win. sci-fies NEVER win alot of oscars.

  • @ChronicMist yeah, it got three ALL THREE OF THEM were for visuals.

did it win anything for acting? plot? music?

no. . nothing like that because the movie stunk.

its only saving grace was it was pretty, and that is reflected in the oscars it won, for visuals.

    thats it.

and personally i dont believe it deserved anything for art direction. the aliens all looked too much like they had downs, the scenes were stolen from fucking WoW,the creatures were dull and uninspired, protagonist was emo, etc

  • it's sci-fi dude...even cameron said it will not win more then 2 oscars...jesus get a fuckin life

  • @ChronicMist

if avatar is scifi, so is winnie the pooh.

    think about it. :)

  • Avatar didn't win an oscar AT all. :(

  • @ChronicMist

so yeah it being sci-fi had nothing to do with it losing.

it lost because KID SHOWS never win a lot of oscars.

  • kid shows never win alot of oscars? yea yea, say that to Lord of the Rings: Return of the King..... do some research before talking crap kid. ever heard of google?

  • @ChronicMist

lotr wasnt a kid show, its classic literature. ever read a book?

  • since when "kids can't read classic literature"? since when "classic literature can't be understood by kids"? do you think that if you weren't that smart as a kid, every kid is dumb?

  • @ChronicMist

OMG you are retarded lol. . . i wasnt sure but youve jsut made it 100% obvious. you put that shit in quotes and its so far from a quote its ludicrous! what i said since you abviously have difficulty with reading comprehension is that lotr is classic literature, and the only way not to know that is by not reading.

obviously you would do absolutely anything to make yourself look better after losing this argument, even result to being a troll. you are pathetic, and im done here.

  • so you're calling me a retard because I quoted one of your bullshit comments? who's the retard now? never asked yourself why all your comments get thumbs down? whine somewhere else kid...

  • @ChronicMist

nice delusions, your pretty imaginative. too bad your writing skills are horrible. im sure the only person your imagination will ever serve is you, while your jerking off thinking about your mom and imagining that shes not a 300lb alcoholic. people like you make me want to invest money in keyboard manufacture, saliva cant be good for the circuits inside. be sure to always wear your helmet, and please try actually wiping your ass instead of stretching your underwear up your crack.

  • what's with the emo-speech kid? feel frustrated? feel like a web-hero and tough in insult people from your home PC 6000 km away from me? why the fuck is the internet full of pussies like you kid? that's what I ask myself right now

  • @ChronicMist

how long did it take you to learn to spell "kid"? taking your special challenges into consideration, its pretty impressive!

  • seriously, stop replying back

  • go Cameron go! go! go!

  • People, people! Stop arguing! Don't forget that Cameron is Canadian and the bitch is American! That's it. It's all about the hockey! No one there cares about both movies.

  • Yeah, the public loves Avatar.

The public also loves food from McDonalds.

Being "loved by the public" doesn't equal good quality.

  • Comment removed

  • @TheIberianImp - Thankyou! Great call

  • Don't feel bad Cameron. The public has already spoken by making your movie biggest of all time. All the Academy did was discredit themselves.

  • Pocahontas Smurf tears taste delicious.

  • people... no movie will ever beat a war-themed movie. Period. That's how it works here. The war is the most sacred thing for the United States.

  • haa hhaaaaa aaahahh ahahah!!!!

  • Left wing propaganda movie

  • I liked Avatar, it likely won't win Best Picture, but it'll get Best Visuals for sure

  • Lets be realistic, this movie will NOT win Best Picture OR best director. Without the visuals, its a boring, stupid, predictable story. I would have liked it better if there was no dialogue or even if it was on mute. Now the movie that will win is Hurt Locker, a searing film that doesn't go into ideological context but focuses on the grit of the psychological effects of war on soldiers. Plus, Cameron's ex-wife will probably be the first woman to win the best director oscar, which is ironic.

  • can you not be so negative? and just praise the movie for what it is? it's a briliant film. It has a great plot, which James Cameron paid a lot of detail to. Stop being so negative. This film took 16 years to make! Show some appreaciation, whatever happens happens at the oscars tonight. But Avatar, IS the BEST grossing film of ALL TIME

  • Well Said.

  • Take away the special FX and you got nothing left...boooring and i want my money back ;-O

  • We'll be watching the Oscars at Avatar fan site Naviblue . com and chatting about it live in the chatroom. Join us during the broadcast!

  • Just saw it tonight...VERY GOOD. saw it in 2D though

  • only Avatards would waste their time and money watching this crap

  • Only retards would post your comment. How come you dont like the movie? It has a great story line, great acting, great visuals, whats not to love? But I guess your brain can only concept a movie that is ''BANG BANG!..the end''

Get an IQ.. then you can speak.

  • @SwaGGuhTroN

ya, Hollywood has a new name (Avatards) for ppl like u

great acting? have u ever seen a blue man with a tail?

    great visual; what u blind!

great story; To be called A story, it has to be based on REALITY not FICTION

whats not to love? i dont love the fact that Hollywood has brainwashed and turned our society into a bunch of *Avatards*!

now go check your IQ kid, than come back an talk to me:-)

  • ur so gay

  • am so gay huh. how did you get to be such a gay "expert"?

u know whats Soo gay? the word *Avatar'd* = gay Avatards

it sound soo gay that just that tittle would cost them the award. but than again in Hollywood even a gay cat would get an Oscar if Oprah said so lol

  • you sir are a moron hahaahahahhahaha avatar was a benchmark for the 3d industry, don't hate on what is beautiful. :]

  • im so pissed so are billions of others, shit locker may have won the battle, but we all know avatar won the war

  • @genocidex003

what the fuck is "the 3d industry" ?

  • This has to be the dumbest post on this thread. I personally liked 'The Hurt Locker' better, BUT Avatar did have amazing visuals and there really is no debating that. You wrote, "To be called A story, it has to be based on REALITY not FICTION." I think that this piece of stupidity speaks for itself and needs no further comment.

I guess you're the cool contrarian guy who hates on whatever is popular or successful at the moment. It must be nice to be so unique.

  • Well I see no smart coming out of u Avatard.

  • This is exactly the type of response I'd expect from you Lolpunks.

  • best movie ever

  • ..... for the complete stupid.

  • @TheAntiV ; LOL agreed !!

  • Why does America need Canada to write and produce and direct all their top movies? James Cameron, Avatar and Titanic....

  • @DoinThupidThings because Canada is the best <3 !!!

  • watch?v=bi4eYqiZWyo

  • wow avatar 2

  • I am from the Fiji Islands and when Avatar was realeased it had to go on in major threaters for 2month straight !

    3D was the BEST :)

  • I didn't get to see it in 3D :-/

  • This kind of visual overload cannot sell for too long. There's a lot to look at there, but the movie is missing. Both characters and the story are banal.

  • Comment removed

  • waste of money

  • i was expecting something great. i watched it, it was soo boring. Anime has already surpassed this era, in terms of storyline and even artwork concepts. So, basicallly, I've seen better. I just didn't like this movie whatsoever. Boring.

  • this is a shitty movie it don't worth watching.

  • There are always movies out that arefar better then a CGI fulled crap but of course people nowadays care more about BAM BAM BAM then a good story...its fun seeing this generation loss its taste on actuel entertainment.

  • Give me a break. Avatar brought BACK actual entertainment.

  • and the oscar goes to...

    "an education"!

  • i liked avatar and all, but to make it out to be a masterpiece is just proof that if you get a big enough hype the commoners will hail it as art.

    this is so sad.

  • Ah you know Avatar is sci-fi when you see nerds fight. 3-D may change, but proud nerd fans and anti-fans will never change.

  • most over rated film of all time

  • @marklosextremus I agree, it is a good film don't get me wrong, but it is overrated.

  • Good film

  • I know other people have already commented on how horrible a film Avatar is but I just had to write it down once more.

  • Disliking Avatar doesn't make you "hip" or "counter-culture" in any way whatsoever.

  • Good! Very good! I'd hate to live in a culture in which not liking a bad film makes you a renegade. Now I just wonder why you thought that that was my reason.

  • Bad film? How is a film, that has grossed almost 2.5 billion dollars worldwide and been nominated for the Best Picture Oscar, in any sense "bad".

  • lol. You know the saying about how millions of flies can't be wrong?

  • So you're the exception? Thanks for proving my point!

  • Just so you know, using the bandwagon isn't a very good strategy is determining what's a good movie.

  • Avatar was a major cinematic achievement and will be deserving of any awards it wins come Oscar night. Nuff said!

  • Cheesy as hell.

  • Terrible film. The only thing it has going for it is the graphics.

  • what do you expect? it was pocahontas in 3d. -.-

  • Do you have any idea what PERFORMANCE CAPTURE is?

  • do i care? no. this movie was ALL special effects, next-to-no plot and the actors were not even needed. absolutely anyone could have played those roles. actually no one could have played the roles and the computers could still have made the movie for Cameron. the actors were there simply to have hollywood names as a selling point because otherwise its just a really really bad disney movie.

  • The computer animated creatures wouldn't exist without PERFORMANCE CAPTURE which is ACTING. It's simply a replacement for makeup.

I thought the philosophical subtext was intriguing. From Jake struggling to determine the importance of living in a world of dreams, to the phrase "You need to wake up" being used in different situations throughout the film.

  • thats acting? really? so when a nfl player does it for Madden 09, he is now an actor? gimme a break.

its created emotion through everything BUT acting.

  • Zoe Saldana's performance wasn't acting? Just because it was CGI instead of makeup? Wow, totally not conformist.

  • Apparently you must have missed Zoe Saldana's performance, which was the heart of the film! That was no less of a performance than what some of this years Oscar nominees have contributed.

  • This is one of the most ignorant statements I've ever read. You should do a bit of research on the techniques of "performance capture" and the amount of work the director and actors have to go through to make it even remotely believable.

In fact acting on this level is far more challenging since the actors have to use more of their imaginations to pull off the performance. This is due to the lack of a physical environment to play off of.

  • bullshit. you really have no idea how it is done. once they capture enough moves, the computer puts it all together after that. just like making a madden game, all you need is some certain moves, apply some stats and the computer can multiply it for as many characters as you need. your replying as if these actors did every scene...they did some major motions and the computer did the rest. all these actors did really was some Madden-type stuff and then voice overs.

  • The actors DID do every scene! AND THERE WERE NO VOICE OVERS.

  • um, ok then. no more need to speak with you about this. clearly you need to brush up on cgi generation, motion capture and how it is all put together. bye.

  • no it is not that simple. where in madden people do not complain when they see the same exact movements done over and over, in the movies people would catch on to it and say how shitty a movie it was.

im not too big of a fan of avatar. im a bigger fan of madden, but i know for a fact madden is more repetitive than avatar.

know what you are talking about.

  • your first paragraph: um, isnt that exactly what me and others are doing? lol

  • no.

in madden they onyl need a few different moves to be captured. where in a movie they cant repeat moves, especially when they have a half of a billion dollar budget.

your arguments are so ignorant that i feel as if there is nothing i can say to change your mind.

  • there isnt. its a stupid movie. its a cartoon that only had real actors in it to sell tickets with their names. anyone, i mean even bob wal-mart from down the block could have done it and the real geniuses who work the computers would have made him look good.

  • i dont know what makes the movie unintelligent, ill give you the chance to explain how a movie can posses inferior intelligence.

yes i agree it is a cartoon.

i think the acting was shitty, but you know as well as i do that "bob wal-mart" wouldn't of acted any better.

i agree that the real geniuses were the cgi artists.

  • lets say your right.

do they take every player in the nfl to make Madden or just a few multiplied motion captures?

did they film toby mcguire climbing buildings or was it motion captured and then a cgi spider man on a cgi bulding?

    motion capture is not acting.

  • Please for the love of all that is good and holy in this world, look up "Making of Avatar" and stop embarrassing yourself.

  • i couldnt stand the movie, ive already seen enough of the making of it and i know how motion capture works, i was alive long before it was thought up, ive seen the evolution and know what im talking about. im certainly not going to watch more of Camerons cartoon. i know how cartoons are made, thank you.

  • someones upset... you need a hug this movie deserves all the credit it has been given. your are just a boring person go watch star trek or star wars. you are truly an idiot i see you commenting all over this video trying to prove a point thats clearly wrong no these people did not act out everything but it hard it isnt as easy as an NFL game which has been done since forever so they really dont need anyone to act anything out since they allready have the "moves" because of previous games.

  • do you honestly think this movie deserves the praise it has been given?

i enjoyed this movie very much, but it is nothing out of the ordinary except for one thing.... which is the graphics.

the acting wasnt anything better or worse than most movies.

other than amazing graphics this movie was mediocre, of course this is just my opinion.

  • and oh it's also a "Battle for Terra" rip off too...

I guess if you put all those films I mentioned into a blender and then you get "Avatar"

  • Star Wars is a rip off of "A Princess of Mars" "The Hidden Fortress" "Flash Gordon" "Star Trek" and pretty much every 1930s serial. What's your point?
