Very nice... I found her acting kind of flat at the beginning... but the rest of her performance made up for that. My only real comment on this is that her E flats were rushed horribly...
On a completely technical perspective, she has a great grasp of the fundamentals, which is why she can even deign to sing this song in the first place. There are points when she falls a little short, but she's still young. However, I feel that a lot of the comedy of the song is lost, except for a couple spots, which is the difficulty of singing this song. It requires technical AND comedic mastery.
as I was saying.... Basics ARE part of the training. Can she do better? SURE! We work on that all the time. It's a journey.... college will be a journey. Her voice will grow and mature (fill out), but I do not believe in adding "fake" color to a voice. The the realease of tone things will become richer and more floaty. But to say that she skipped the basics. hum? There ARE still some universities that teach each voice in it's own way (not some factory "generic" product).
Beautiful voice...practice on stage presence and acting. Remember that one can only truly bring out the beauty of an aria with the knowledge of training their body. Control it, then you'll control the stage.
I so agree here. I am hoping that time and theatre class will help in this area. Getting out of pure "technical" thinking while singing has always been difficult for Anna. As a musican and student she's so on top of things. But, It's so hard for a "perfectionist" to just let it go. LOL. She's a great young lady.
my q is whether or not its healthy to sing so much music like this at such a young age? what happened to basics taught technique? im all for learning tough music and a challenge but will this help her in the future? ppl often go back to techniquesthey used when they were younger when performing pieces lke this when theyre older i knw colleges dont allow freshmen at all and sophomore its a thin line but i believe in learning the basics
Look. each voice is different and needs to take it's own journey. This is not my favoritve work of Anna's, but she wanted to sing it. However: Anna has had the basics since she was 13. One of the foundations of voice is breath. well, she can sing a ton of Handel (and sometimes an entire page in one breath).. so, that basic is taken care of. Agility is also a key to vocal health. She's got that. Also the trills, actuti, and no breaks. So, no basics have been skipped here.
why didnt she act throughout the piece? :(
