when You switch to lead the sound would be too sharp..

I can hear that this is no original Gibson sound..due the sustain with effects...

Do the strings especially on the higher frets grind against the fretboard?

@shredtilyurdead Thanks very much! This was the "fretless wonder" model. They were pretty worn so I got a re-fret job done. Had larger frets installed and a graphite nut. Plays like a dream.

You see its an ebony board with block inlay. that screams 'custom'! just because there are no covers on the pickups and the plastics are creme, doesn't neccasarily mean its not a custom. if so; tell that to peter frampton!

The Gilmour comparisons are justified same sound, ALMOST, thatS the trick, ALMOST. You want verbatim Gilmour that is not personal the sound is Gilmourish but the guitarist keeps his identity, which is what he, is striving to achieve. If I want pure Gilmour I go buy a Gilmour CD if I want a sound that is close but is different, identity of the artist keeps his integrity.
