What a shame that you would want to use a 2000 year-old book to justify your homophobic hatred. Are you afraid to express your own hateful, right-wing opinions without hiding behind 'the word of god'?
By the time we get rid of the gays and the cripples and the gypsies and the women and the mentally ill and the poor, who will be left? You? Is that what you want?...a handful of white, nasty, homophobic racists running the place? I will never live in that world without a fight.
@dual506 Your reply to my comment is a perfect example of ad hominem attack that isn't in any way relevant to what I posted. I said nothing about cripples, or gypsies, women and mentally ill or poor..the mere fact that you bring up these people and try to portray me as one who is against these people when I said nothing of these groups show how hateful you must be of people who think differently that you. You say that I have hatred merely because I speak of sin, yet I said nothing of hateful.
@dual506 And where do you get any idea that I am in any way racist?? There are plenty of non whites who would agree with what I posted. There mere fact that you feel the need to smear me as being "racist" shows that you don't feel confident in what you wrote unless it's bolstered by the baseless accusation of racism. How is it "hateful" to think that a certain behavior isn't "good" and is not a "moral" one? If you read my post you would have seen that I was saying that it is loving to warn them.
@539Firestorm Neither do judgemental jerks. I believe the saying is, "Only He without sin can cast the first stone," which means that only God can judge. Just be cool with everyone and worry about yourself.
@DannyV1991 If homosexual behavior is a sin, and homophobia is an irrational fear of homosexuality then how is it homophobia to warn someone that their sin will end up damning them if they don't repent? Is it adulteryphobia to warn proud adulterers that they are in danger? To warn someone that their sin will earn them death has nothing to do with a phobia of said sin, it is the most loving thing one can do. If Christians didn't love other people they wouldn't bother with the gospel. Choose life!
I didn't know Elton did this one. I liked it enough to find my foot tappin'... but I will always be partial to Norman Greenbaum's version. Nice job, young Elton!

I agree, this is a great cover...and whilst some cover tunes do outshine their originals ( insert just about ANY song by Dylan -done by anyone BUT Dylan here ) but it's nowhere near as good as the original. The one with all its feedback and fuzzed out guitars. :]

wow i am 49 and have lived through Elton Johns Career. Hell my 8th grade tolo's theme was Elton Johns Harmony. I have never heard this cover by him. I love covers this is a good cover not great not special but a real good cover. When was this recorded i want to enter it on my ipod.
"Spirit in the Sky" contains lyrics about the afterlife, making several references to Jesus. However, Greenbaum, who is Jewish, stated that he had no particular religious intentions with the song
So stop making this song into something it's not. Good music, not gospel.
Its annoying to me that everyone has to make a comment about Elton John being gay. He may be gay but hes done in his life so far than any of you will ever do. He was knighted for christ sake. Freddie Mercury, Elton John, George Michaels...they are all gay and each and every one of them is a GREAT artist. So stop talking shit.
@ashleybelike i like that comment about the three artsts being gay and so what. your right they should just be accepted for who and what they;ve done. thank you

good, but norman has more passion because its his song. i still love elton though, he has a gold, or bronze claw foot bath tub! and Bennie and the Jets! how can you hate on the guy who sang ba ba ba Bennie and the Jetssssss lol
Talk about Tim McGraw covers, When the stars go blue! Written by ryan adams 5 years before anyone heard it. This is a horrible cover, thank god john stayed with org's!!!!!!!! Norman is whippin his ass right now in the place that's the best:)
All right homophobe. It's good or not based on merit not on where he wants to place his pee pee. Are you that insecure about your sexuality that you have to criticize others who are more confident? I dare you to challenge me on my standpoint and beliefs. I dare you to question my masculinity. Bring it bisnatch.
@will2Collett lol actually greenbaum was jewish so ... spirit in the sky, man, uplifting and nice anyway be it agnostic, anarchist or buddhist!
i sure would like to see a priest watching sir Elton singing spirit in the sky... cuz acording to the fascist church elton is going way way down to burn (they are not big into the "gay" thing lmao, so no spirit for EJ) go elton of the 70s!!!
It is Elton indeed, a very young Elton, end of the Sixties. Back then cover versions were done for hit sampler records, because it was cheaper than buying the rights for the originals. Elton (or still Reg back then) worked as a singer for recordings like that to make some money.

One of my favourite songs. Sir Elton did an awesome cover of the song. I'm surprised that he hasn't done the song more recently. I'd love to hear him sing it today.
This is my favourite version of Spirit in the Sky ever. My only question: Is sir Elton backed by a band playing or is it karaoke, with him singing? Either way, awesome song!
I'm 22 years old and like this music....no I'm not gay. Old school music is way better than what's being produced these days.
