@dami1622 Listen closely to the lyrics, you posted "And around the only one for me" when it should be "I know I'm the only one for me". Cheers, thanks for the song.
i was watching some of your robert plant videos earlier and coincidentially ended up back here watching the genius waits. thank you so much for your videos.

If I close my eyes listening to Him sing...I can see a hobo wandering the earth, watching people...and singing in a park, on a train, or on someone's front porch. He who sees reality.
Superb video ! One of my favourite songs. Thank you for posting it ! In the lyrics, at the end of the 4th strophe, isn't it "I know I'm the only one for me" instead of "And around the only one for me" ?
This is my favorite song of all time, maybe its the lyrics or quite it is without tomany intruments, but its just perfect and it get better with every listen
As a huge fan of Tom Waits, I just wanna thank you for making this video. This song meens a lot to me. You've made a great and beautiful video to a beautiful song. Keep up the good work. All the Best Rasmus Rosengren - Denmark
@Rosengren7 Same here, you got GREAT taste. I am obsessed with Tom Waits' music,. I was very excited when he got inducted into the Hall of Fame, finally justice has been served.
This is the song that I am left with after the end of a love dismissed. I love this, and it tears me apart... "The door to love is devastation" ~Rumi 13th Century poet.
To me, Tom Waits is important because he shows that there is no kinship between sadness and self-pity. This is a very difficult thing to achieve, either through music or poetry.
the man is a genius. One of the most underrated musicians ever. i cant believe he isnt more well known. He should be a household name. Nobody brings the same kind of feel and inginuity to music that he does...
@metalheadoj666 Unfortunately, mate, the reason he isn't more well known is because "Video Killed the Radio Star". Modern pop music is no longer about music, it's about Pimps, Hoes, Bling, Testosterone & sex. Soo, the powers that be produce production-line plastic Garbage for the masses, whose thoughts are as deep as a teaspoon. Long live Tom, - The Velvet Fist, Enveloped in an Iron Glove.
@metalheadoj666 Take solace in the fact that most people who knows quality, and who's had the benefit of ever hearing Tom Waits, WILL agree with you! :-)
@metalheadoj666 we have enough perfect soulless singers with perfect pitch and empty songs, Tom gets right to the heart of the matter with his mournful prose
@Obelisk2290 Its a shame really that so many singers are like that. But i would say that what saddens me more is when people get lost in youtube videos and mourning loss of "good music" instead of trying to find something new. Im not trying to be horrible to you but i have to admit that im tired of people complaining about the state of music today and not attempt to change it.
@metalheadoj666 When I was about 15 I swore an oath to my own conscience that, after my 30th birthday, I would NEVER be one of those soreheaded old coots who complain about the new music (whatever that might be). However, it's a promise I can't keep. People who really do compose and play better music are usually ignored or shouted down as being "not real" and so forth. Popular culture is in the hands of money-grasping interests, and it's no good pretending that I'm just fine with that.
@Glencanon4au Im not not fine with it either. I agree with you completley that most musicians who display promise are shouted down and ignored in favour of a formula for success. However i think its our job to take new artists and groups and champion them and bring them into the limelight. I dont mind being a salesman if it means we get better music.
@metalheadoj666 Tbh, i'm going to go ahead and be selfish in saying, this is what makes things so much better. If he were massively successful and rated it'd be justified yes, but it'd gain scrutiny and everyone would offer criticism, review, etc. He'd be eveywhere, I'm glad he's at the status he is. Its a statement about society that Tom Waits is quietly respected and Akon is a billionaire at the top of the charts with a song called 'where da hoes at?'...
damondarkwalker I agree. I just watched the movie but have always loved tom waits and Jackson Pollock. The movie shook me most because I can identify with it personally on many levels. I've always considered myself too drunk to drive, too irresponsible to have children, and too content to change anything.
brilliantly choreographed visuals to such a heartfelt song about the world and it's apparent heartlessness. Tom always had a good grip on indifference.

a voice that should be cursing the world sings it the tenderest of love songs.
the knowledge that should send us raging against the dying of the light leaves us with the realization that humility is endless.
the tears of sadness thus run down smiling cheeks.
this song, it's the further union, the deeper communion...
obviously he can sing about matters of which we cannot speak ...

Hi, Davor. This is a wonderful song, sounding so tender and softly in spite of Tom's grizzled voice, or maybe just because of that
- strength and tenderness combined.
This video and Killing The Blues are definitely my favorites. And very, very good choice of pictures, some are marvelous.
I've watched it several times.
