  • BLU

  • this song will be played on my funeral :)

  • The blues ain't nothin' but a good man feeling bad

  • This just might be my funeral song...

  • "On our anniversary, there'll be someone else where you used to be"

God, that line is so sad I can barely take it.

  • I agree..Tom is a genius...glad I found him way back when I did..thanks for this video and the song is new to me..I've lost touch.

  • @dami1622 Listen closely to the lyrics, you posted "And around the only one for me" when it should be "I know I'm the only one for me". Cheers, thanks for the song.

  • @NicoretteMan Yes, you're right, thank you. I hope know it's o.k.

  • i was watching some of your robert plant videos earlier and coincidentially ended up back here watching the genius waits. thank you so much for your videos.

  • who's the girl at 0:33? she's cute

  • @DeepestBluestDay shouldnt u concentrate at the song instead?

  • Beautiful video!

  • CanWeTransformRevelationsBornFromTheMadnessAshesToAshesNoMoreClassics

  • till world keeps turning Tom still rules!

  • there's a song by napalm death that has the same title as this one...but they are, in no way shape or form, related. and that's all i have to say.

  • Tom doesn't sing songs....he sings perfect little movies.

  • Tom Waits makes rough smooth.

  • a voice that should be cursing the world sings it the tenderest of love songs.

the knowledge that should send us raging against the dying of the light leaves us with the realization that humility is endless.

the tears of sadness thus run down smiling cheeks.

this song, it's the further union, the deeper communion...

obviously he can sing about matters of which we cannot speak ...

  • Do you know where I can find any of these photos? The one at 00:44 is amazing. It reminds me of my home. Great song by the way. I'm sure the integrity of the music is very telling of you.

  • Amazing song...sampled on Blu and Exile's "Seasons" check it out, it's a great remake of this incredible work of art

  • Tom Waits spada u posebnu klasu kao i ovaj video.

  • Svaka čast prijatelju.

  • awesome......just awesome

  • This song makes me cry!

  • What can you possibly say about a song like this? If there's a god, his name is Tom.

  • This, for me, is one of the most heartbreaking songs I've ever heard. Just... the world keeps turning.

  • This video moved me. I would like to say " ARIGATOU (Thank you)" from japan.

  • thank you

  • Ima nas, ima... :-)

  • I heard this at the end of the film Jackson Pollock with Ed Harris. You do the song great justice with your photography. Bravo!

  • ma ima nas punoooo al smo samozatajni ;)

  • If I close my eyes listening to Him sing...I can see a hobo wandering the earth, watching people...and singing in a park, on a train, or on someone's front porch. He who sees reality.

  • Superb video ! One of my favourite songs. Thank you for posting it ! In the lyrics, at the end of the 4th strophe, isn't it "I know I'm the only one for me" instead of "And around the only one for me" ?

  • does anyone know how to play this song on guitar or even piano, I could really use the chords

  • This is my favorite song of all time, maybe its the lyrics or quite it is without tomany intruments, but its just perfect and it get better with every listen

Will you paint the whole damned town red with me? ;) Paint it red!!

  • christ i just sent this song to my engaged ex! oh tom waits, the feeling you invoke.....

  • I agree with previous comments - you have done an excellent job of choosing pictures for this video, thank you! It's such a beautiful song.

  • Nobody tells stories in songs that draw you in like Tom does. He has his own style that can never be cloned..

    Thank Fk.

Before I die I need to see him live

  • @shudder23 Same goal as mine. May we both get the chance.

  • Very nice video for a very sweet song..

  • svaka čast! :)

  • svaka čast ja!

  • As a huge fan of Tom Waits, I just wanna thank you for making this video. This song meens a lot to me. You've made a great and beautiful video to a beautiful song. Keep up the good work. All the Best Rasmus Rosengren - Denmark

  • @Rosengren7 . Dear Rasmus thank you.

  • @dami1622 legendo :=)

  • @dami1622

ooo davore. pa kod nas svi obozavaju ovog waitsa :D

    super je stvar!

  • @Rosengren7 -- Luckily, the world will keep turning. Best from Spain.

Nu tar vi oss en liten en och skal TAMIGFAN!! :-)

  • @Rosengren7 Same here, you got GREAT taste. I am obsessed with Tom Waits' music,. I was very excited when he got inducted into the Hall of Fame, finally justice has been served.

  • This is the song that I am left with after the end of a love dismissed. I love this, and it tears me apart... "The door to love is devastation" ~Rumi 13th Century poet.

  • This song reminds me of how much I love my girl. Thanks again.

  • great music and great pictures.

    thank you.

  • fell in love at 1:01 - how beautiful is she ?

  • To me, Tom Waits is important because he shows that there is no kinship between sadness and self-pity. This is a very difficult thing to achieve, either through music or poetry.

  • Thanks for writing such a gem, you nailed something that was in my mind and I just couldn't get it out.

  • @ZuttionGabriele

    well said.

  • who are all those people?. does he know every one of them or just put pictures of random people?

  • very nice work

  • the man is a genius. One of the most underrated musicians ever. i cant believe he isnt more well known. He should be a household name. Nobody brings the same kind of feel and inginuity to music that he does...

  • @metalheadoj666 Unfortunately, mate, the reason he isn't more well known is because "Video Killed the Radio Star". Modern pop music is no longer about music, it's about Pimps, Hoes, Bling, Testosterone & sex. Soo, the powers that be produce production-line plastic Garbage for the masses, whose thoughts are as deep as a teaspoon. Long live Tom, - The Velvet Fist, Enveloped in an Iron Glove.

  • @ConanTheLibrarian100 Very well said

  • @metalheadoj666 Take solace in the fact that most people who knows quality, and who's had the benefit of ever hearing Tom Waits, WILL agree with you! :-)

  • @metalheadoj666 we have enough perfect soulless singers with perfect pitch and empty songs, Tom gets right to the heart of the matter with his mournful prose

  • @Obelisk2290 Its a shame really that so many singers are like that. But i would say that what saddens me more is when people get lost in youtube videos and mourning loss of "good music" instead of trying to find something new. Im not trying to be horrible to you but i have to admit that im tired of people complaining about the state of music today and not attempt to change it.

  • @metalheadoj666 When I was about 15 I swore an oath to my own conscience that, after my 30th birthday, I would NEVER be one of those soreheaded old coots who complain about the new music (whatever that might be). However, it's a promise I can't keep. People who really do compose and play better music are usually ignored or shouted down as being "not real" and so forth. Popular culture is in the hands of money-grasping interests, and it's no good pretending that I'm just fine with that.

  • @Glencanon4au Im not not fine with it either. I agree with you completley that most musicians who display promise are shouted down and ignored in favour of a formula for success. However i think its our job to take new artists and groups and champion them and bring them into the limelight. I dont mind being a salesman if it means we get better music.

  • @metalheadoj666

I so agree.. people are afraid of their own real emotions so don't like him. He is my god too :)

  • @metalheadoj666 Tbh, i'm going to go ahead and be selfish in saying, this is what makes things so much better. If he were massively successful and rated it'd be justified yes, but it'd gain scrutiny and everyone would offer criticism, review, etc. He'd be eveywhere, I'm glad he's at the status he is. Its a statement about society that Tom Waits is quietly respected and Akon is a billionaire at the top of the charts with a song called 'where da hoes at?'...

  • @metalheadoj666 Those who need to know of Tom do.

  • The photo on 0:12 is pretty

  • beautiful, beautiful pictures...

  • damondarkwalker I agree. I just watched the movie but have always loved tom waits and Jackson Pollock. The movie shook me most because I can identify with it personally on many levels. I've always considered myself too drunk to drive, too irresponsible to have children, and too content to change anything.

  • This is the Waits song that plays a the end of "Pollock". I think that was the last time I got choked up at a film.

  • i remember that

  • predivno

  • I'm proud to be Norwegian because of Tom Waits. His grandmother was Norwegian, even with the same surname as mine

Bless you Tom. There are no more artists these days, but you definitely are. Bless you mate

  • Nice to know :-) Greets from Poland, Tom is beloved here!

  • wonderful song and a video, all the faces talk many languages. thank you.

  • You obviously don't have any eyes to go with your ears!

  • I'm so glad a lovely person recommended Tom Waits to me. Just Brilliant!

  • Nice job with the photos. Beautiful song. Tom Waits rules.

  • I tell you what

    the photos are breathtaking..

    You did Tom proud friend

    jh

  • aboluteley fabulous. This man is special. He sings with depth and soul oblivious to his surroundings

  • Gorgeously put! Thanks for posting

  • I saw the movie on the life of Jackson Pollack and this song was sung at the end of movie. The song is very beautiful and poignent. RB

  • brilliantly choreographed visuals to such a heartfelt song about the world and it's apparent heartlessness. Tom always had a good grip on indifference.

  • This song makes me want to cry. It remember's any kind of memories.

  • This is well done...the video conveys that Waits' is solemnly reminiscing.

  • O, kako volim Waits-a... Nemam reci, super!

  • oh-my-god song

  • this was in ER ! ! ! when that guy gets hit by a bus/truck

  • Das ist ja eine interessante Stimme. Das Video hat KLASSE !!!!!!!!!

  • Peter vielen Dank!!!

  • Hi, Davor. This is a wonderful song, sounding so tender and softly in spite of Tom's grizzled voice, or maybe just because of that

    - strength and tenderness combined.

This video and Killing The Blues are definitely my favorites. And very, very good choice of pictures, some are marvelous.

    I've watched it several times.

  • Hi, Mira, I am glad you like this video. I was looking what matches the song in the best way, of course in my subjective opinion:)

  • Don't be so modest - you did it soulful, as always, and you know how I like the rare shots. But the song is really beautiful.....

much more than I've expected it to be.

Greetings to beautiful Dalmatia and to you.

  • Ein sehr schönes Video !

  • Danke dir:)
