New video of Danielle Licari singing Alive from Japan. For some reason I like the alive version much better than the studio one. The orchestra sounds more intense. Search "Danielle Licari Adagio Albinoni" here on youtube
Pretty but lightweight, both musically and performance-wise. There are much more interesting & beautiful vocalises by Faure, Rachmaninoff and the incredible Gliere concerto, among others. I hoped this would be a terrific new discovery but to me it's music lite.
I immediately recognize Danièle Licari's voice. This is marvelous (the best "Concerto pour une voix"), but only earthly; she can do even much higher: go and hear
Danièle Licari singing Marian Marciak "Sanctus"...
that's a shock in beauty that you won't forget. I was hit in 1971.
I have no more the 12" 33rpm LP with me. Google "Sanctus Marian Marciak Danièle Licari" shows it on priceminister (with a comment of mine) but no more available.
Doublehp ("DoubleSPK") said (worth translating IMO):
« I listened to this all my youth on 33rpm vinyl... One of the rare gorgeous classic music pieces I find beautiful, and that I am able to listen to end. Voice is used as an instrument... adding an extremely human dimension to the orchestra, while bringing nothing questionable, personal, or intellectual, as do songs, and operas.
Once, people could sing in tune with no correction from technology »
This is the best rendition. What of Jean-Baptiste Maunier and Clémence Saint-Preux? They have skill, but music is more than that; it is beauty. Not something sensual and physical. It is invisible. I wish musical artists would present music as most did in the past. Give me the old-fashioned orchestra and a clear melody with a decent, wise, and poetic harmony. Not strong beats and rhythms, and catchy tunes which are more sound than music.
When I first heard her singing in the movie, Les parapluies de Cherbourg, in the 60's, I thought if angles could sing, they should sing like that. Later I heard her sing this song, concerto pour une voix, I was sure of my thought then. Now we are in the 21st century, I still think if angles could sing, they should sing like her. Andresansregret
It's beautiful. Her voice is so sweeping. Soft as linen, yet it reaches so far into one's heart. Amazing. She was just as touching in "Les Parapluies de Cherbourg," but I wish I knew more about this song. Wikipedia doesn't even recognize it.
Hi! All I know is, she's the voice singing for Catherine Deneuve's part in "Les Parapluies de Cherbourg"(The Umbrellas of Cherbourg)and it sounds very very much like her.

It is Danelle Licari, there is an error about Janot, she sings it too, you can find it on Itunes, (1995) Janot's version sounds like there is less freedom and the orchestra uses wind instruments which I don'l like, I prefer this version. much better!
Bellisimo.
