  • Im trying to learn how to play the bass because of this woman..

Talented and forever a legend in my eyes

    RIP Teena Marie

  • Author G D Grace says.... nothing shows appreciation like the smiles and applause of an audience... RIP, Lady Tee

  • aw everyone loved her. Quickest standing from mostly all the audience I think I've seen.

  • AHHHH! this gives me chills! this is my song yall....smh nobody will ever do this like you teena R.I.P.!!!!

  • MISS YOU TEENA !!!!!!!

  • haha...people are arguing in here.

  • <3 Luv U Tina!!!!!

  • Her talent remained consistent, but her ass certainly grew!! Oof-ahhh!!

  • @jumpinjojo I don't think that anyone is a bigger ass than you. And you don't even have any talent other than being disrespectful to women. Grow up, because you are NOT funny.

Years of hard work and struggle in the music biz by this iconic woman and you want to find something to criticize. Don't try to get a laugh or attention at someone else's expense.

  • @luvindiemusic When a video is posted on You Tube, it is open to all comments, whether they are positive or negative. That's just the way it goes, my friend. Welcome to reality!!

  • @jumpinjojo You should learn how to respect hard work & talent. Everybody has a motive for what they do. Yours is obviously trying to get attention, & that's a pretty sad situation.

In YOUR reality people can disrespect people's achievements by disregarding them, and making some bland, mindless comment. Most people have morals and common sense, but some like you choose not to use it. You probably have weight issues, and taking things out others. Look at yourself (the pot) before you criticize.

  • @luvindiemusic Oh my God, will you go away?? I clearly stated the obvious. Read my original post again. I said her talent remained consistent, but her ass grew. Merely pointing out an obvious physical feature. You know, some guys like big asses, so it was a compliment!! Again, here on You Tube we are allowed to post comments and opinions. Don't take it as a personal attack. If Tina would like to contact me personally, that's fine. I don't need you harassing me. Move on with your day, please!

  • @jumpinjojo Based on your most recent remark, you obviously do not follow the music scene very close. TEENA MARIE passed away the day after Christmas in 2010, so you won't be hearing directly from her to tell you how you keep on making stupid comments.

Quit while you're only behind by 2 feet in your mouth. At least respect the dead, and STFU.

  • @luvindiemusic I've never received so much attention. I think you're in love with me!! Lol!!

  • @jumpinjojo Sorry, I meant to say that you are your biggest "ass" joke. Congrats!!! Thanks for sharing your stupidity. What doesn't kill us, makes us stronger, and more sensitive people than you.

  • @luvindiemusic HaHaHa love this comment....some people just dnt know good music when they hear it...smh...AND THIS IS COMING FROM A 14 YEAR OLD PRAYING TO BE JUST AS TALENTED AS HER..R.I.P LADY T--Amor Maree

  • That woman still rocked in her later years!!! Will always love and miss you Teena Marie :)

  • Aint no black girls were blowing it up at the time! So all I can say is that Teena Marie put it down before most of these black devas today! Please name one!

  • Justin Timberlake is a POP star. Same with Fergie. Mad props to both of them. From a pure singing aspect. Shouldnt be spoken in the same sentence with Lady T, and Im a fan of both of them. She was a special gift that was underappreciated, and maybe now shes gone. A new generation can discover the magic she had. RIP Lady T. and Thank you to God for sharing her with us. Her music will live forever.

  • love this song so sad she is gone=(

  • it doesnot matter what color she is...listen to her song/listen to her artistry and the risks she took.....the Black community embraced her because she was uniquely her own voice and was not immitating anyone, but honoring the black musicians who came before her by synthesizing thier genius with her own creative creations...Have you heard the music of Laura Nyro from way before....Black artists used her music and she was part Italian or Jewish. Its a new global world .Youtube Ana Oxa,Shes great.

  • ihate how ppl think she was fully white she NOT

she grew up in venice beach around black people that why she got soul listen to her without seeing her she sounds black.

nd quote she sais she black born in a white body

  • @dntTriip1 That made no sense. she's white and I'm cool with that.

  • Damn this women could sing!

  • Tina was a true artist and a nice person as well. The kind of girl (woman) any man would like to have. It's too bad that sometimes we want to make it about being black, white or whatever. I'm just glad that we were able to experience and enjoy her talents while she was here.

  • What date did she die

  • Since when did people actually sing live without lip synching and actually know how to play an instrument?

RIP Teena Marie, a true artist.

  • Miss teena was a black soul in a white body, no offense but she was bad!!

  • I heard smokey Robinson on the radio talking about the best singers of all time in his opinion ... Best male to smokey was Marvin Gaye and best female was lady T

  • Saw her live at the house of blues in Vegas. It was amazing...a true legend

  • Thank you for your comments "megavega4'.......SO not agreed with "aesopposea"....how dare you....what have you done to upstage and critisize/condemme this lovely lady/amazing vocalist/artist?

  • Man she could MOVE the crowd ... jeez ..RIP.. Lady T.

  • Goodbye white trash wigger.

  • @AESOPPOSEA1 Hello ignorant ass trolls

  • Lets make this clear right now....people really don't know what level Teena Marie was really on...you can't give anyone anything to do with Taylor Dane, Joss Stone or Christina....they may be good in their right, but they are not on the level of Teena Marie, nor in the generation of that musical world.......I'm sure that Teena Marie would be bigger than she ever could have been, if she were here now....She is timeless, and as far as I'm concerned was a living legend......Don't kid yourselves..

  • @DreChappelle You are so right. Teena WROTE her own stuff, and just had the most distinctive and incredible voice. Her career spanned 30+ years. You'd have to compare her to artists like Prince. However, Teena was CONSISTENTLY great. Even when out of the spotlight, she would come back and STILL be brilliant.

  • @DreChappelle AND...lol...She didn't write no crap songs. Her stuff was intelligent, artistic, sophisticated, complex.

  • @DreChappelle I agree with you. My comments were to acknowledge those artists as legit... but never for one moment would I put them in the same class as Teena. You have good.. great.. and legendary. I think we all agree that Teena fits into the legendary category. And so would the artists that I mentioned...

  • Teena was straight up bad ass - plain and simple! Love her forever! Our lengendary Ivory Soul Queen, we will miss you!

  • I remember at my 10th birthday slumberparty we rocked out to this song... u will be missed Miss LADY T

  • wow how many of today so called artists can really sing and play any type of musical intrument

  • REAL TALENT & SOUL HAS NO FREGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGIN COLOR! ENOUGH ALREADY!

  • has to be the bigger person and she was. She was HERSELF and she was a nice person. She could have cared less what anyone thought and remember this. She started out in a ifferent time thn that of today so I have utmost respect for her because she was a good person and she just was herself and I respect her so much for her talent, her humility and being who she was born to be.

  • Can we just all not get stupid??? Teena Marie was true to herself and GOD IS THE COLOR OF WATER!!! WHO THE HELL CARES ABOUT STUPID??? I am so sad. Sad like when I heard Michael Jackson go, James brown, Barry White, Teddy.. REAL PEOPLE WHO WROTE THEIR OWN REAL MUSIC, SANG WITH THEIR OWN REAL VOICE, AN DIDN'T CARE WHAT ANY ONE THOUGHT BECAUSE THEY WERE REAL TALENT!! Is is realing making me saer that some are arguing over race? I am white and I just am so sick of this STUPIDITY. Somebody ...

  • @1100ayanna Well said!

  • I love this girl! I wish I could have seen her live. I hope she is at peace.

  • If anger is your friend when you die you'll come back again........ ....Teena Marie

  • nothing like the old school.. RIP Teena Marie

  • She could sing circles around most the singers in her day, always loved her funky vibe.

  • People nowadays love to toss around the word "multi-talented" but Teena was the true definition of the word. Not only could she sing circles around the best of them, she also one hell of a piano & guitar player, she wrote & produced her own music. She was not a token white girl who just happened to sound like a black woman, she was the real deal. She didn't need to come on stage half dressed and sing raunchy lyrics to entertain because she had natural talent. R.I.P. Teena. You left us too soon.

  • @4DECO1

That is so true, 4DECO1, so true. She left us and in the words of the late Micheal Jackson, she is "Gone Too Soon". Tina was the epitome of the definition of multi-talented, she was the real deal and she is sorely missed.

I know she is with the Angels and there is a mighty choir in heaven, singing right now. ^j^ ^j^ ^j^

  • @4DECO1 my gosh, what a wonderful tribute!

  • R.I.P. lady t, you will always live forever!!! thank you for the beautiful music you gave us and for showing that soul is from within, not just for your skin color, you will always be remember and forever love.

  • Lady T is the Shit!!!!! THEN, NOW, ALWAYS , and FOREVER! Truly one of the greatest to ever do it. R.I.P

  • RIP Teena :( She was taken from us way too soon. What an amazing talent.

  • Man, that girl could sing yeah? I was just thinking of this song the other day, bought it on iTunes. Too early gone, too soon taken from us. Rest in peace Teena. Nobody'll ever rock and soul like you.

  • she's been my Lovergirl for decades!!!

  • um.....Daryl Hall ???? thats white soul...his idols were the temptations ?!?!?! thank ya kindly LOL !

  • This is sad...I was and still am a fan. As a woman rocker and guitar player, I definitely admired and related to her. Too bad not more people knew of her. I wish I had met her.

  • She Will Be Missed I Got A Chance To See Teena Marie Live In Detroit July 2010 With Morris Day And The Original Time Me & My Wife Enjoyed That Concert. Teena Marie is Basically The Last Funk Female Artist if The Mary Jane Girls Dont Make A Come Back. It Over For The Female Legends (asFar As Funk Music ) Damn Teena I Was Will To See You Again This of 2011 R.I,P. Ollie Woodson of The Temptations, Teddy Pendergrass, Ron Banks of the Dramatics R.I.P Teena Marie

  • @mastermike1966 yea she will

  • All music artists need to give props and show their respect for Lady T. It was her lawsuit against Motown, which later became a law known as the Brockert Initiative, allowed all artists to get out of bad record contracts and made it illegal for record companies to keep an artist on the label without releasing new material. She will forever be remembered for what she gave to us all with her music and what she gave all recording artists in the never ending struggle against shady record execs.

  • Gotta admit, when the song started I thought we were in for a trainwreck, but she nailed it.

  • TEENA - RIP

You and your music will live on longer than any of us and for that I am grateful! Knowing that other young kids who like myself, will have an opportunity to know what it is like to see a TRUE AWESOME TALENT who could SING LIVE, PLAY and PERFORM while giving her spirit at 200% with the energy of an Olympic Athlete!

REST IN PEACE. This day brings such sadness and yet inspiration. I will not take the music for granted ..ever!

  • RIP TO TEENA MARIE MICHAEL JACKSON GERALD LEVERT LUTHERVANDROSS JAMES BROWN RICK JAMES

  • RIP

  • rip teena, Rockweiler

  • i love that she actually played an instrument, not just prance around the stage. also wrote her own music. Monique is right to say legendary. RIP Lady T.

  • Her talent COMMANDED respect! She will be missed and may GOD cradle her soul.

  • THAT GIRL WAS NO JOKE!!! MAN, SHE WILL BE MISSED!!

  • what yr is this apollo appearance?

  • @julspower

this is from 2007, when Monique was still the host.

  • Pay close attention kids. . .this is how it's done!!! RIP Teena. . .you are already sorely missed. . .

  • I'm so sad to hear of Teena Marie passing away. My condolences go to her family, friends and fans alike. I was a teenager and in my twenties when she came out. Growing up enjoying genuine talent like hers was great. I love hearing her songs to this day because she was the real thing. She had real talent, an awesome voice, true spirit. You can feel it. On behalf of my Mexican-American family and friends, we will miss her and may she rest in peace.

  • RIP Miss Teena, we will miss you but your soul will live on through all of your amazing musical contributions.

  • R.I.P. LADY TEE, THE IVORY QUEEN OF SOUL, GAAWN WAY, WAY TOO SOON, THERE IS A VOID LEFT ON EARTH , NUFF LUV FROM JAMAICA and the CARIBBEAN !!!

  • I always admired Teena for her style and her wonderful voice. I myself am black ( Caribbean American) and I have dealt with the racial criticizms too cause I was always like a white girl. However Teena was herself. She had it going on and I will always love her and her music. I can't believe that we have lost such a beautiful voice. There will never be another Teena Marie. I just have a hard time putting the word died near Teena's name. Can't be. But it is. Love you Teena!

  • It doesnt matter "whose" artist she was. If you read about her life she was really anti-racial crap. She knew that she was more respected by the black community but she made music for all people. She was big on music reaching souls and souls have no color. Cut the racial talk. Listen to her music and respect her life. That's how you show last respect for a music great like this woman.

  • She was definitely the queen of funk and will be deeply missed.

  • RIp Teena

  • Ms Teena Marie has passed. An awesome person and singer. her music will live on. My prayers are with the family.. It doesn't matter what color you are only be judged as a person. Teena you will be missed. R.I.P

  • R.I.P. Lady T!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Such a talented woman. Black or white should not be an issue anymore. Too many people are stuck in the past. Everyone should be like her and those who embraced her and her talent! RIP Teena.

  • RIP Teena Marie

  • Forever your fan, R.I.P. Teena

  • I am ''WHITE'' and notes of music have no color. Only tones!!! Though you may have left this World to soon. You will be welcomed in another with open arms.

  • @maff619 lol..you should send that to music exec and billboard... because to those entities...music definitely has color..and thus categories. Though all can enjoy all types of music..a majority of an audience that listens to a type of music definitely has color. It's true.

  • Boa viagem Senhora Teena Marie

    Com Amore de Portugal

  • more funk talent in her little finger than most entire careers.

Lady T so deserving of the hallowed Apollo stage.

we've lost another American pop and R and B institution and pioneer tonite

If you're 25 or so, ask your parents about this woman....you're probably conceived to stuff she was serving up in the day.

Lovergirl was the smash, but there were so many sexy funk ballads, two adults often became one before she was done...

    rip Lady T,

    sadness tonight from Canada,

  • LADY T ALSO ...STILL HAS ONE OF THE MOST BEAUTIFUL & POWERFUL VOICES IN R&B !

  • great!

  • she still sounds good

  • This was Rick James Bitch !!

  • She's great. I was one of those who always thought she was black. Wow. AND she plays guitar. I'm even more impressed now. It's always cool when a vocalist is also an instrumentalist, like Sheila E...another eternal hotty.

  • She's great. I was one of those who always thought she was black. Wow. I'm even more impressed now.

  • This is the only white woman in existance who if I met her, I would bow down in absolute servitude.

  • i love you tina....thanx for everything

  • still till this day i'll put lady T up against any female singer live or studio white or black and she will kick thier ass!!!! THE QUEEN OF SOUL

  • @hung0sowell that position has been already taken (ARETHA FRANKLIN) maybe just maybe princess of emotions. Hows that?

  • @afterthefox7 lol TINA IS TRUE QUEEN !!!shes not the greastest white r&b singer, just the greastest soul singer!!! we dont see black or white when it comes to music!!!the only international healer of all the world is music!!!! ALL HAIL THE QUEEN!!!!!!

  • Lady T is just FUNKY! Let's not make it about race....her music transcends that, anyway.

  • I'm white and I know who she is. I've been listening to her for more than 20 years and have her CDs. Don't make assumptions that white people know nothing about black artists and black oriented music. It's really an insult.

  • two words come to mind when I think about Tenna Marie....The shit !

  • I'm white and I know who she is!

  • I Mexican and I dont care what color she is! I love her! One of the badest R&B Funk Artist in the game! Still puts it down after all these years!

  • I'm white and I have loved her since the 80's, she is the greatest R & B singer! love her

  • Funk. Soul. Pop. Rhythm. Blues. Romance. Poetry. Rock. Ballads. etc. etc. She's my fav female singer because she covers EVERY aspect of music that I just can't live without. I love you Teena.

  • all that black and white rubbish sucks. Playing into the hands of the controllers is divide and rule and works for the dumbasses who play the game. Shes a woman who looks like a housewife and surpasses expectations because most humans are prejudiced....talent transcends bullshit!

And Bob Marley was half white or half black...its all bollocks..now back to the paint drying.

  • good as ever!!!!

  • I'll embrace Teena Marie unconditionally & lol @ her ending.

  • Teena is all soul on the inside..her skin just happens to be white.Shes been in the bizz over 30 years and got her start in a black church so I never seen her as white. She makes great music and is not only a great singer but as you can see a great guitarist.true talent that you cant even see todays music and shes damn near 20 years older than me.if you dont agree..look at the Apollos reaction and you decide.

  • @SuperSuperFly2010 ... " Now WTF does it matter about skin color!!!?? Stop that chit already!!

  • @ChristyLove816

    Exactly!!!!

  • great performancr!!!

  • damn she got some energy!!

  • I remember watching her on Soul Train. Lady T what a talent!

  • Teena Marie crossed lines in music. She can really get down. She belongs in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. You go, Lady T :)

  • Teena is the shit! What's funny is that white people dont even know who she is and she's white. Black folks straight took her like they take our artists.

  • @LakerKev That's why we love her!

  • @LakerKev Very true!!!!!

  • @LakerKev ... WRONG WRONG WRONG!!!!!

  • @LakerKev

Whats Funnier is how lots of black folks like u are always making the racist comments...then u wanna call us racists... hmmm

I'm WHITE and my whole family has known & loved Teena Marie's music probably longer than u!! hahaha

Anyways, Teena's 1 of the greatest ...whether she's white , black , brown, purple or green...I really never noticed... too busy enjoying HER MUSIC!!!

  • @tubebrowser123 Truce I agree

  • @madnegro69

Cool, glad to hear. Life's too short for all the racist crap. We're All equal and from 1 God so it's about time we all start acting like it.. =)

Well since you want to be half ass racist bitch. Obama black president yeah he half white but you aint' heard them lable him first bi-racial president. Ya'll ain't got no soul.

  • @LakerKev - I'm white LakerKey and yes,I knew music her,Grew up listening to her music and that of Rick James,The Jackson 5..etc.So it's really unfair that you say that..and I quote you here "white people don't even know who she is"end quote, make sure you know this to be a fact for sure before you say things like this, some people may take offense to it.I don't personally but some may. Moving on..This lady is a true legend for all races/ages/ male or female, she will be greatly missed RIP T.M <3

  • @LakerKev ....Sorry but u must be unaware...I am white, I have always loved Teena Marie & her music...along with the entire rest of my family...hahaha, now u know...what's funny is that types like u always sayin all this racist crap and then saying it's US white people talkin the SHIT!!.....oh well can't help that there's many ignorant people out there like u!!

  • @tubebrowser123 - Dont get your panties all in a twist. I still stand by what I said and if you or anybody else has a problem with it too damn bad. All I know is that my original comment was posted over a year ago. I didnt wait until she passed away to give her props like the rest of all you Johnny-come-latelies.

  • @tubebrowser123 i don't think it's an insult to not have soul. "Soul" is a definition of singing and touching people with the passion some singers can sing with. It's not an ethnicity thing, though it is a fact that most great back singers have it. Michael McDonald has been credited with this "sound." Personally, i have been complimented by black people for my singing but, I will be the FIRST to tell you, I don't have soul. It's a "singing talent deluxe," for lack of better phrasing.

  • @LakerKev I don't know what is worse, people giving this comment the thumbs up or.. that you said that white

people don't know who she is. Get it straight, White people know who she is, and why wouldn't Black folks take her as they would a Black artist? your stupid.

  • @LakerKev ---you know that's right
