bit of a blonde answer, but it would fucking hurt to hit the water with the bike in your hands. lets think about this. hitting water at that speed is similar to slamming into concrete. so if we add a bike to the equation, what could possibly go wrong?

Hitting the water like that is nothing like hitting concrete. If it was, these guys would be dead dozens of times over.

You dump the bike so you don't land on top of it, or have your feet slip from the pedals. Also, if you're not an experienced rider, you could end up going into the water face first, rather than feet first.

I've ben lake jumping a few times. Fun stuff. We always taped an empty two liter bottle to the bars, so the bike would partially float.

we got the bik out wiht like a grapplin hook on the end of the rope. you would watch where the bik went in and throw the rope past it and drag it. it usually took a couple of times but it was easier then you think cuz the pond is so shallow
