Ich war 1 Mal in Stromness, und beim rückweg haben wir ganz Schottland genauestens angeschaut. Seit dem ersten Tag an dem ich da war, hab ich mich in die Natur verliebt, es ist einfach hammer dort...
I last heard this 27 years ago, when I saw the film on TV. It has stayed with me ever since, and I never thought I'd get to hear it again. I noted down part of the lyrics then, and only tonight did it occur to me to search YouTube for it. Thanks for aking it available here.
thankyou ray , the beautiful song is powerful enough to send me right back to my memories , never forget asking for a copy of it in the record store & being surprised to see it was by "dylan" so disapointed when i got it home ! lol love j/r
please , is there eny way of gaining a copy of this film , it has such personal meaning to me , a young boy in sheffield playing in our "great" band in thatchers britain & feeling the bitter sweet thrill of a first love !
Sorry, Jonny, It isn't possible to get a copy of the film at the moment. It was on VHS for a while, but they have all been sold, and it isn't available on DVD. The best I can offer is possibly a copy of the novel.
Verse 3 "Misty autumn tears are falling Broken pledges trip your tongue If you leave me and deceive me Then I'll stay forever young (Guitar break) Verse 4 Now I'm older, yes and wiser All my sings to you are sung Still I'll keep you in my memory Where you'll stay forever young Where you'll stay forever young."
Hi there Ray. I was 9 when this film came out on channel 4. My mum loved it so much, she used to perpetually play the song end-to-end! It inspired me to play the guitar. I used to sing and play it in the folk clubs around Manchester.
i found this by mistake. i'm so pleased that i did! my original searchwas that my grandfather had a grandfather clock, which stopped working ?in the 60's a friend of his carved out of the wooda replica of Stromness lighthouse, complete with light at the top and still works to this day. It's a magic piece of sculpture really, that we, as a family take for granted. it's been with me all my life! I've been hearing the music quite often recently so had to take a look where that originated from.
Thank you so much for this - such a beautiful piece of music used to such good effect. I've been trying to find the film for ages so this was a lovely surprise :-)
Hi Nick, Got your message but having trouble getting a reply through to you ! I will try to transfer my video tape to DVD on my recorder but it may take a while as I haven't used it before. I will let you know when I have managed it and you can send me a postal address to send it to. Regards, Carol [ellenallison]
Hi Paulo1, As I replied to nickedemis further down, I have a copy of the film which was recorded on video from the TV in 1983 but as the video recorders were not so good as they are now the quality is not very good. This is one of my very favourite films of all time and I watch it again and again. Thus the poor quality !!!!! I would gladly send you a copy on CD if I could find out from someone how to do it. Regards, ellenallison
paulo: do you have the sound file that you could email me as a mp3 or midi file? or a transcription of the music being played by the guitar in the video...I have the Farewell to Stromness sheet music by Davies...thanks again...
I would love to have the lyrics or cd of this version; is a soundtrack or DVD of this 1983 UK "Forever Young" available anywhere...not the Mel Gibson one...thank you
Hi, Just seen your comment about requiring a video of the film forever young. I have a copy which was recorded on video from the TV in 1984. It is not very good quality as the video recorders were not tip top then but it is still one of my very favourite films and I watch it over and over again without getting bored. The soundtrack is fantastic too with A Farewell to Stromness at the beginning and the end.

Verse 1
"Springtime lovers, warmed with kisses
Garlanded with blossoms hung
If you promise not to leave me
We will stay forever young
Verse 2
Daisy chains in summer meadows
Buttercups of sunshine
If you tell me that you love me
You will be forever mine"
