Google Navigation On My Rooted G1 (How To)

I actually got the google maps with navigation working. I used the zip you had and i now have google navigation installed on my phone. it took a little work but it will work

funny my G1 isnt rooted nor do I have google voice and my Google nav works perfectly, But google does really need to work on that lady's voice way to fast and robotic.

if you have 1.6 you can just update google maps now and it has that feature and sprint nav is slooow

Ya, but Sprint Nav is waaaaaay better. Directions, talking lady, everything.

I've tried both driving around LA and Sprint Nav performed better. =p

Awsum, but i got one problem, i downlopaded the sprint navigation and it was working fine at first, but then i turned it off so that my phone can charge over night, and when i turned it back on it told me that my account has expired and that i need to call sprint or renew my contract, which is just totally lame. Can you help me out here bro?

Ohhhhhh... It doesn't work with Hero ROMS! Those are 1.5 and it only works with 1.6 or above =/

Ya, this video was out BEFORE they updated Maps with Nav.

But this hacked version still has 3D which the official updated one does not =p

Weird. I think I heard of someone else having that problem but with installing something else. Everything works great on this end.

Try reflashing Cyanogen again and then doing the nav again.

Or you could always just install the normal app from Market. It now officially has nav =)

I finally was able to switch from the MLIGN Hero rom to this Cyanogen rom so that I could get the voice navigation, but now I miss the keyboard and auto correct from the Hero rom. I did not see the Sprint Nav the first time I watched this video. I think I'm going to go back to Hero and try that. I do love how fast this Cyanogen rom is though! Thanks for these videos! Please keep them coming.

Oh. Cuz Hero ROMs are all on 1.5 (Cupcake) still...

Nav only works on 1.6 (Donut) and 2.0 (Eclair)

Yes. You might not even get an OFFICIAL 2.0 update with the G1 so by rooting it, you will get it more than likely, before any official update rolls out (if that even happens)

Yeah an HTC Dream with Rogers. I just flashed CyanogenMod v4.2.5 and tried the update_navigation and my maps icon has changed to the one in your video. I was using another donut rom before so I guess this navigation update is only made to work on Cyanogen roms?

I'm running Cyanogens 4.2.4. Followed your instructions, applied update, clear maps data, installed google voice, opened maps. Maps loads up without the Navigate option :-(

Hmmmm.... Try uninstalling and reinstalling Google Voice again. Then clearing data for Maps one more time....
