OK ppl, Here's a little advice from one drummer to another. STOP trying to figure out exactly what he's doing and just take the CONCEPT of what he's doing. He's taking a short pattern and repeating it. While, what he's doing is not what he's saying it very well could sound the same when you do it. The sticking doesn't matter just how it sounds. The accents and how it sounds are what matters. When you are playing this you're not going to be thinking of KLRKLKRL. 2 triplets and a double, reapeated
I second towhom311. You guys are great players and great musicians for taking time to share ideas with the drumming community. I know I'm learning a lot!! Keep these bits coming!!
It´s a nice, simple lick. But, not being able to explain your own "nice, simple lick" properly grasps above, below, and withing the realm of the lamentable.
if you're playing straight sixteenth notes for that fill, you're missing one note in your explanation...if it just goes KLRLKRL you're missing the last a, so you;'d have to play it something like KLRLKRLR
i really Love this lick!! im new to gospel drumming and ive been wondering how to do something like this for ages!! although can u repost this vid with a break down in stead of the sticking like, play this real slow
@palito32 these guys at drum dept play some very tasty licks but are terrible at explaining them. theyll slow stuff down but , and i hate when guys go real slow in explanations but they cud explain beter . like this fill is so many beats in this tempo, and put up a chart, no biggee
Wow the description in the video is way off, and there is a lot of mis-information below. Here is how it goes:
Sticking: K-L-R-K-L-K-R-L (Repeat) (Same as a few other posts)
His First Beat: S=Snare, K=Kick, T1- Tom1, T2 = Tom2, H= Hi Hat.
KHHKSK(T1)H KH(T2)KSK(T2)(T2)
This two triple and a double thing is a cool concept. Thanks for the post!

very nice...how about a little slower explanation...so those of us awake at 6:30 can get it? hahaha...real nice...
palito32 3 years ago
Play as 16th notes straight or swung. The left hand plays the snare on 2 and 4.
The sticking is:
F-L-R-F-L(snare)-F-R-L
Rinse and repeat as necessary.
