this seems more like direct speech to the reported speech . future in the past has some other structures except for would . it has was going to , past continuous , was about to , was/were to do sth and was/were to have + past participle .

@alb26100 Yes, of course it has, this video just shows the basic concept of Future in the Past and I didn't want to pack it full with more advanced stuff. And you're right - reported speech is the practical application of Future in the Past but the same goes with the constructs you mentioned, so I don't see how this would be in any contradiction with each other! ;-)
