I would really much like to see you do a tutorial on the stuff you play on the snare while playing your regular swing say around 3,58. The elvin jones /brian blade fills.
this is a great video, but this is not teaching. Lots of videos are made just to say to you '' look how good i play '' the most important thing in here is to handle a low profile..

just a random thought maybe you wanna stuff cotton in the bass drum so that it softers the echo/reverb for the bass drum. i know you're suppose to have that kind of sound for bass drum but i mean iwanna hear the hits you made from your foot. just a thought
Thanks, I learned a lot and I can finally keep up with my teacher when he teaches jazz. And I was never able to learn the snare pattern for the bossa nova before watching your video. Great job, keep uploading.
Wow you're really good. And I say that coming straight from a Tony Williams video -- which'll make anything sound like crap! What brand are your drums and did you learn to tune at an online site? If so...please link! Thanks!
Great videos! I've been playing drums for about 25 years, mainly in local rock bands, but never developed the bounce technique for playing very fast. I can fake it but it is not very much fun and is tiring to the hand. Can you post a video that shows how to use the technique for rebounding the sticks against the skins to get that nice even roll? Or how to do rolls like the double stroke at faster speeds? Especially with the left hand. Thanks!!
Happened by your videos while checking out some old Tony Williams clips. Man, you really made me want to play jazz, awesome videos. You probably already answered this question several times, but what snare are you using? It sounds fantastic.
One little point. The samba is traditionally played with a very subtle feel. Meaning, the sticking is to be very soft, not overtly loud and bombastic. Other than that, good job man.
Samba isn't TRADITIONALLY played on a freaking drumset. This guy is a kickass drummer.....he's got great control over his dynamics. Samba means a lot of different things to a lot of different people. Saying samba is supposed to be soft is a pretty amateur thing to say....especially to a drummer of this caliber. Trad. samba is often a bit mellow, but this guy is doing it in a jazz/fusion/bop context which means he's doing what he wants.
What ride are you using?

Tim, great playing and video. Thanks.
Jojo Mayer did this same type of groove on his DVD. Where did you learn this groove originally and where did those ideas come from?

Hey Tim!
I love your lesson! Do you have a DVD for sale on jazz drumming? Or know any good "how to play jazz drums" DVD's on the market?
I've been playing drums about 5 years and want to get into jazz drumming. Your lessons have been quite helpful in my endeavor!
