What you don't realize kcirdrab is it really CAN be that dangerous. Especially when you don't know where you are, or whats really going down in those buildings. He could have easily walked in on some druggies or a deal or even a murder and if he did, this would have never gotten posted, i can promise you that. Detroit is, in a nutshell, a war zone.
I'm just happy that George got what he wanted and made it out ok.

actually it began in 1960 when the city elected its first liberal as mayor. That began the white flight from the city and companies began to leave. Prior to 1960 Detroit was the most prosperous city in the USA. Now it is an open cesspool of decay and crime. The US is now headed down the same road.

I left the Detroit area (to get a good job-didnt want to work for the auto industry) in 1990. Looks like Detroit hasnt changed since I was a kid. Born in 1969 and it all still looks the same to me.
Its sad, because many of the old buildings and houses are really pretty if they were just fixed up.
But, yeah, its been the government corruption and joblessness that are the biggest sprawl contibutors.

Blacks are not *the reason* Detroit is the way that it is. They moved up from the South to fill the need for industrial labor, and then the white owners of the industrial companies moved the jobs to the suburbs or abroad. To blame skin color for macroeconomic trends is unproductive. If you're going to play that game, what about the South; the white ghettos of South Boston? Playing the race card is a cop-out and an effort to avoid a complete and truthful analysis of the way things are.

try going in to a fenced off marble quarry outsude of town at one in the morning that goes up a set of see through stairs about 500 feet up at midnight... not to mention there is no power to the building so it's pitch black and there's marbel dust everywhere and a shaft that goes about 1,000 feet down, and underground chambers. and people have died in there.
