here in the philippines we put smaller holes at the breech of the bamboo cannon to produce louder bang..due to loud impact of the explosion..sometimes the cannon breaks in half
lol...well on my moms side they like to use wen she wz a young girl but u dont really mk them u find a bamboo and mk a hole at the top and ...well its... in da vid bro!!!
it is very dangerous, they must release more smoke inside the bamboo, because the fire will automatically blown backward.. it must be release outside of the bamboo, i mean in the tip of that bamboo.. sorry again for bad english..
it is very dangerous firing that philippine cannon when the hole which they light is very wide, because it will result to backfiring, ang u will burn ur face.. sorry for bad english..
i thought only in st.lucia they do bamboo burstin also in fiji..i guess its a tropical island ting..tht was my boy days so much fun alot of our eybrow got burn doin tht sh*t
The best experience any kid in Fiji would go through in the village. The experience is much better than any game console, the reality is there, the danger and of course the feel is what counts.
I have to argue that..the problem is these days no kids in the modern world has any respect or control of fire..
Understanding fire is a absolute core to our existence and while we can sit here today at computers thinking how far we have come, reality is we are going backwards, next will be writing, better get ready to go back to the cave, this time without fire.
thats the stupidist thing any 1 has ever called a problem these people are fucking dirt poor thats why they do this and not play ps3 ur aguments are for the dick u no lifer
hahahaha lmaoyourface ps3 is for gay people like you who sit all day in the house like children and get fucked up in the brain....how bout ur sit your ass in front of that thing u fucking cunt motherfucker
We used to make these when we were kids in the Philippines. Green bamboo, tilted so the kerosene would pools under the lighting hole and let it rip. What you are lighting is the fumes from the kerosene, especially after it was heated up a little bit. Once the constant firing weakened the bamboo, though, look out. It would eventually fly apart spraying burning bamboo and kerosene around. But for a few hours, it was good fun.
Thanks for the detailed reply, I have to say I wish i was doing this when I was a kid, I loved it.
Sadly these days the aspect of learning the control of fire is being lost on the new generations of kids as they prefer to play on computers or inside, the real adventure is always outdoors.
Fire is only dangerous if you don't understand or respect it.
I think there is some value in "playing with fire" as a kid as long as nobody gets hurt or killed. My kids are fascinated by fire as most kids are. But there's no giant bamboo here in Idaho, USA
hey author guy, tell me this. With a hollow peice of metal the same size as that log, can you not just put in a paper contaner of gunpower, and a ball of some sort, and fire it by igniting a fuse tht is connected to the power?
i did this while growing up in trinidad and tobago, it's childs play, but very dangerous a practical injury might me the when you get your hair blown off your face especially your eyebrows their the first this to go. when i visit again in the diwali season the festival of lights this is normal practice.
i can also give instructions on how to make and use it. But always make sure to use either diesel or kerosene, never use gasoline or the bamboo can blow up. i have gotten my eyebrows burnt off a couple times from doing this. WARNING: i am not liable for any injuries or death that can occur from doing this.
I live in Trinidad and Tobago, and my friends and i do that all the time. message me and i can give you some more information and some pictures/videos about and of it.

na cava eratou cakava cala o ratou oqo. Eda sa bau mai sarava kina eso na ka mai noda eda sega ni rawa ni cakava e overseas. Thanx for the video...reminds me of back home, especially during festive seasons like Christmas and New Year.
have to agree with you here, these days kids have so many restrictions, but they have the internet, we did not have that as kids and thats a big difference.
my samoan friends tell me they use it for celebrations like christmas. And these days are usually made out of baked bean cans... cutting the bottom of the cans and poking it upwards making fins for the gas to go through
I made a similar device as a child in Sweden, on a much smaller scale, using felt tip pens and very tiny firecrackers.. It worked though, sending the cap of the pen flying high and fast.. :) :)
Leokimvideo, another fantastic clip. The bamboo gun appears to work from the building up and then spontaneous combustion of gases on the inside of the barrel - creating a "vacuum gun" effect - anyone who has played Halo and driven the warthog will see a similar principle in use! Thanks for showing this, really interesting and fun to watch too.
I was working in Fiji and heard this device one day, at first I thought it was a car backfiring, the kids were so eager to have a video made of their gun.
It reminds me of a pulse jet without the petal valve, it really is pretty dangerous but its a different world there, this video was shot about three years ago.
Hopefully someone will know the origions of this device, I was told it was devised when the Fiji people saw English cannons, and this was their response..I am open to any other suggestion of why it exists.
DAMN I DID THIS WITH A TRUCK DRIVE SHAFT!! and was EPIC!!!!
