  • I'm currently making a blackberry mead also... I'll be adding the corn sugar at the end to make it a sparkling mead. Nice video!

  • Great video series! I just made my first raspberry mead a few days ago. I ended up using frozen raspberries though. Which would you recommend for a fruit source, Frozen or canned?

  • @chet1point0 I like to use fresh frozen fruit, that is: fresh fruit which has been frozen. This way your fruit can be stored frozen until you are ready to use it, and freezing the fruit makes it release its flavors by bursting the cell walls in the fruit. Saying this, I did get satisfactory results from using canned fruit and would use it again if it was the only option available.

  • How long did the whole process wind up taking you? I'll be starting my first mead this weekend.

  • @MrWildcat2U - that mead took about 6 months to get into the bottle, but it probably could have been bottled earlier. I made a raspberry mead that took about half that long. Good luck on your mead!!

  • great videoseries! I have a question; could you use some kind of plastic containers like a watertank / jerrycan or something like that, instead of the huge glass jars?

    thnx, greets from holland

  • @UtilitasNL - I don't see why you couldn't use something else like a plastic water jug - 20 liter type fitted with a stopper and airlock as long as it is clean. "Foodgrade" plastic may prevent the transfer of plastic taste to the mead. I prefer the glass because they are easier to get (really) clean, and are relatively inexpensive at homebrew shops, but I bet anything you could eat/drink out of would be ok.

  • Great video! Have you tasted any yet? How did it turn out?

  • @slick717 - thanks! it turned out good - what was interesting is that because the can of blackberries was so old, they lent to the mead an instant aged flavor...

a little more to the story - a friend of mine knew I liked making mead and had that can of blackberries around for years! He gave me that can and some honey to see how the mead would turn out. I was pleasantly surprised.

  • Another great video buddy, looks tasty!!!
