This is actually quite good. I'm often a bit antsy going into these things because many of them are pretty terrible.
I still prefer a really terrific DS9 one done to the BSG format but this is definitely my new second favorite. And DS9 is my preferred show of the two Treks in question so I'm biased anyway. :P
I used ten different episodes for this vid not only caretaker. But the first few clips are all from Caretaker because it shows how Voyager got lost. I had only enough time/room in the vid for 9 names and because Jeri has appeared in far more episodes then Jennifer, I choose Jeri. I hope you understand my editing choices now.
@Bloempje721 Most of your footage is from the first episode, it would have been far more logical to have Jennifer since her character played a vital role in sending voyager closer to home.
The premise was promising and there were good characters played by good actors. There were some decent eps (i.e. "Tuvix"), but it sometimes (well more than sometimes) it felt like the writers didn't know what they were doing.
Continuity seemed awkward at best and Janeway's soapbox moments were often painful to watch (the worst was at the end of "Alliances").
Overall, I'd say it was the weakest of the five live-action series.
@toddsmitts And don't forget the endless techno-babble and meaningless jargon:
"Captain, we're being pulled into a Temporal fluxfield inversion event which is destabilising the event horizon quantum accelerator arrays, creating a mezon surge in William Shatner's hairpieace"
"Compensate with the Bullshitium reactor charge set to 11658.32 Megashatners and make Seven of Nine wear an even tighter Spandex catsuit."
That was a really good video. It brought a smile to my face. I've been contemplating lately what Voyager would have been like had it been more like the re-imagined BSG.
@Bloempje721 That's not a stupid question. If you use a different grade system, then how would you know? We use A-F. A+, A, A-, B+, B, B-, etc. "A" Being the top grade, "F" literally meaning Fail. And, there is no "E" grade, nor + or - for "F".
@Bloempje721 A D+ roughly translates to a 4.5 or so, just below average. I'll go so far as to give it a 7.5. great video, but it could be a bit longer to move into the 8's or 9's.
Dude, this is awesome. Personally I liked the first part better (you could've find better action scenes from the show I believe) but stillt you've done great!

what for? i will never use it after i complete doing the opening. what ever. i will not spend my time convincing your ego that what you done did not impressed me. btw, if you keep practicing, you might end doing a opening as good as the original ones.
oh, so i misunderstood. i apologize. i took it to the personal in first hand. sorry. if that is the case, i suggest you grabin an orchestra music, try to place some images of the crew in action, and some warp effects, and stuff runing, then end with a explosion, or a warp, or even a picture of the whole crew.
Good work. Personally I think that you should have used clips from other stories in the beginning other than from Caretaker, but it is still a great video!
When it first aired I was expecting them to keep a running population the way BSG did years later. But Voyager didn't, and they had lots of red shrits, and I don't think anyone made it back mathematically :P
Ah.... a survivor count for Voyager would've made sense, even though you were dealing with only a few hundred people on 1 ship, as opposed to several hundred thousand people across a rather large fleet in BSG.
Voyager wishes it could have been as good as Battlestar. DS9 was the best Trek series, Voyager was horrendous and unrealistic. Trapped thousands of light-years from the safety of Federation space, the ship would be battered, not shiny and clean in every episode. They'd be at each other's throats, on emergency rations, the ship would be scarred and damaged and I'm sure a lot of the crew would be dead. Voyager should be remade.
BSG is probably my favorite thing ever on television but I also loved Voyager. Yes they both had spaceships but they couldn't be further apart in style, genre, feel. It's like comparing apples to potatoes. So don't be such a sreaming geek, lol
I would agree with some of what you said in that i think over the seasons maybe they should have showed some wear and tear on voyager but you gotta admit they have replication technology along with otrher adavnaced tech which allows for faster and easier repairs to the ship i still think BSG and voyager are pretty good for different reasons.
Apples and Oranges mate. The Star Trek universe is governed by the idea that are thousands and thousands of alien civilizations all at different stages of development, some behind humans, some ahead. So it was reasonable that they would find help and repair on their journey. BSG's universe is the complete opposite. Plus Graeme is spot on about the differences in tech, Warp, Replicators all this would have done wonders for BSG. Apples and oranges mate, and some of us prefer a good fruit salad :)
Yeah, plus the Star Trek universe - to reiterate ( ? ) - is full of different civilizations throughout the galaxy, & the Colonial humans in BSG are pretty much alone. No other human colonies save Earth, & no non - human races.
Actually, FTL is faster then warp, time wise that is. The FTL is an instantaneous mode of travel, whereas Warp is a continuous travel mode. But, without any point of reference from BSG, it's hard to determine.
FTL is the only instance of a possibly unrealistic (?) truly fictional mode of space travel in BSG. Everything else depends upon Newtonian, Einstein - ian physics, unlike the Star Trek universe.
I'm going to see if they have Caprica at my local video store.
FTL does have a range limit as well as cool down/charge up times, so it would be difficult to determine whether one would be faster without knowing the range limit of FTL jumps .
Yup. I'm not sure though that FTL is necessarily too far fetched; it's just that they don't delve too deeply into the science behind it, even if that science is quasi-fictional like in Star Trek.
Of course, both are fictional; but I believe they both work on a "warping" principle - what if you could warp space? Impulse drive in ST is only good at sublight speeds. What if you can't go faster than light; but you can make your destination come to you? Make two dots on a paper, and fold it - warp.
THat was excellent. Every piece fit exactly. Voyager even had what you neede- "141 survivors", Looking for "Earth". Made it look a lot more action packed and intense than it really was.)
Of course they were overpowered, that was the bloody point, ffs. Not everything needs to be manageable in a fictional universe.
The Voyager writers could have created a lesser cybernetic offshoot to contribute to the over-all mythology surrounding the Borg. It's called creative writing.
Except for the fact that I'm not a Star Trek fanboy, of any sort. I just like to incessantly criticize primetime television shows that are obvious failures.
Also, gender doesn't apply to the internet, and once again there goes your 'argument'. (We both know that you're a Trekkie, hopelessly in love with Janeway's gravelly 'I-smoke-six-packs-a-day' voice.)
I love your alternate openings! They work really wonderfully. Could have been more in sync with the characters to match their names but all in all a very great job. :)
Clips and credits could maybe have synced up a bit more- such as maybe including a picture of Harry when Garret Wang's name appears-, but the concept is a VERY interesting bit of work.
Too bad Voyager played it safe and became TNG-lite instead of grittier and hardcore. Okay, that was one of the best things I've seen on youtube in quite a long time. Great editing! I've never been a Voyager fan, but damn if this doesn't make me wish I were!
Oh I really love your alternate openings for Voyager. Is it possible that you make an opening for the Doctor (I know you already have one) but with the Monk - theme?! That would be really great. Just if you want ;-)
I wanted to do another Doctor video but I couldn't find the right music for it. But turning it in a opening video with the Monk theme sounds really great. I'm going to give it a try!

Thank you!
I wanted to do another Doctor video but I couldn't find the right music for it. But turning it in a opening video with the Monk theme sounds really great. I'm going to give it a try!
Thank you very much!
Hugs!
