Drew sang in the first movie when they didn't think zac had a good enough voice but he proved them wrong and was chosen to sing in the next two movies.

Both Zac and Drew sing in the first movie...Zac couldn't hit the high note, so they morphed in Drew's voice for the higher notes. Zac does sing most of the songs, but the high notes are Zacs (and you can tell).

When they wrote the songs for HSM2 and Senior year they wrote the songs specifically in Zacs range, and no longer needed Drew.

Zac was busy for the tour and Drew had sang the songs for him in the first movie only.
