couldnt they just use the sublight engines to slow down during entry?

@xxXlolXxx37 They did, but they only had one ZPM. They had such a hard time leaving the planet with the ZPM + umbilical. It's easier to land, but still, not simple. The City was only meant to be flown with 3 ZPMs.
