  • gold night ninaaa :DD

  • I noticed that when she writes, sometimes she writes the whole word backwards, like plain. My little brother used to do that all the time. I love your videos geofg!

  • gold night hahaha :D

  • This just gave me an idea for work. ^_^

  • @BitsyTheNinja Do you teach kids?

  • Holy crap! 428 likes and 0 dislikes. Good video!

  • @PeterVanVoorhis ha ha I guess the trolls and skeptics haven't found this one yet.

  • i loved it when she went to sit in a straight line with all the fancy items. haha too adorable :)

  • I think I'm going to have to chocora right now.

  • Haha! This is too cute. When my mom was teaching my English as a kid, she would make up "grumpy mumpy" stories for me, about a little girl named mumpy who was always in a bad mood, and the things that happened in her day. I would draw the pictures for the stories. 笑

I think its very smart that you both communicate with nina with solely one language. Math is also like a language although in my opinion it is much easier to learn than any language because you don't have to memorize thousands of characters like in chinese or japanese. Sound and pattern recognition as well as brain development is more prevalent at a young age so I think you should push her to develop the skills that will serve her best.

  • Hello I've been a huge nina fan for a while and I'd just like to say a couple of things. First in return for all of the video uploads I'd like to say that milk is unhealthy. Not only does it have no nutritional value but it acidifies the blood which ends up leeching calcium from the bones. Cheese is even worse.

Also shes obviously very smart. You should push her to learn math and programming languages since she is still young. I always regretted that my parents didn't do the same.

  • @ihateflags1 Ummmm.... Milk and cheese are not essential to our diets, yes, but there is no solid scientific studies that say they are "harmful" or acidify the blood... O_o. The only people milk might hurt is those like me who are lactose intolerant. I'm pretty sure you got your information off one of those infomercial pages on google that are trying to sell their alternative health book/vitamin pill...

I do agree with the math.

  • @kpopshawol well you would be wrong.

Why don't you try actually looking it up with the keywords milk unhealthy studies

I've been reading up on it for a while. Most of the things derived form extensive industrial processes are bad for you. Its more cost effective for a corporation to create the illusion of value and to cut corners than to actually create something nutritious.

  • @kpopshawol "Dairy products were the foods most often recalled by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) from the period October 1, 1993 through September 30, 1998 because of contamination with infectious agents, mostly bacteria. (2)"

  • Love U.. ^^

  • Wow!! Amazing cute gir|.^^

  • lol! nice 1, nina! another gold lesson learned ;)

  • gold night instead of good night? wow! that's fancy haha :D

  • Yes Nina, U're FANCYYYYY

  • you should teach her to use A and AN , so cute , love her

  • She's so cute! She writes so well for a 5 yr old aswell. We love the fancy Nancy books too so i cant wait to show this to my kids who are also japanese/english bilingual in japan.

  • @Fujiichannel Fancy Nancy, Dora the Explorer, Sesame Street and Curious George have all played a role in helping Nina's English. ha ha What do you do to help your kids become bilingual?

  • @geofg yes, my daughter loved Dora and my son, Diego. wiggles, playschool, sesame st etc loads of englsih kid's shows and books books books. We are in a rural area with only a small international community so it can be hard but we try to make a trip to my parents once a year and that helps alot. Once they start school its so hard to keep the english going strong. Nina's videos inspire us alot. You are very creative with the editing aswell!

  • @Fujiichannel Sounds similar. Even though we live in a big city, we still don't spend much time with the international community, so Nina plays almost exclsively with her Japanese friends. So, books, DVDs and visits back home are definitely important. How old are your kids now?

  • @Fujiichannel I just looked at your channel. Is that your daughter doing gymnastics? She is amazing!

  • @geofg Yes that is my daughter. Thankyou! She loves gymnastics. She is 8 and my son is 4 and a half.

  • @Fujiichannel i dont want to specify,but i wrote better,when i was 5yo.

  • she's going to have a good future ahead.

  • doesnt 'chocora' mean chocolate? in Dutch 'chocola' means chocolate

  • @JeZebeL2600 Yes, it does. I'm not sure why Nina decided to use that word, but she does love chocolate.

  • how cute! did I see a doremi wand?? I used to love doremi to death XD lol

haha seems like papa is plain don't worry all daughters bully their dads (my dad works out a lot so I usually give him a punch (not like a real one though lol))

  • I'm always going to call ice cream chocora now. =)

    Gold night!

  • You must be very proud :) She's sweet and smart

  • @tmstargazer

hehe, that's what I was about to say too - very smart for a 5-year-old!

  • Gold night, champagne wishes and caviar dreams Nina ..bisous

  • i love how she pronounce FAAANNNNCYYYYY.

  • LOLL. ice water is fancy. she's so cuteeee. i love her.

  • how old is she in this vid?

  • @kOjiE15 She is five.

  • Wow! Her vocabulary is insanely good for such a young girl! How old is she? She's really intelligent. You both should be proud parents!

  • @tsukael Thanks! She is five now.

  • aww! kawaii desu ne!!!!

  • Can I get one of those?... Can't wait to have kids...

  • what a brilliant girl she is..:")

  • am having an overdose from cuteness X(

  • I definitely didn't know the word accessory when I was 5. Her English is going really well.

  • @BruckThatsMe ha ha She learned that word from the "Fancy Nancy" books.

  • "Gold night" was so clever of her :)

  • JAPANESE ROCK,,,,,, NINA ROCK

  • Even the way she says the word 'Fancy' is so fancy! Love this video. Poor Papa is Plain lol! Lovely to see Nina's writing in English too.

  • @aoiskies Thanks! Yes, Nina has been trying to write in English a bit more, though she still can't spell. (And, I don't mind being plain. Nina is fancy enough for both of us. ha ha)

  • Lovin da way she sas 'faaaaaaaaaaancy'... She's so adorable!!!

  • i love the way she said FANCY hahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

    she's so adorable >___________________<

  • i thought she was about to say plain girl

  • kawaiiiiiiiii

  • I was recently introduced to the children's books "Fancy Nancy"...has Nina read them, or is this some magical coincidence?

  • @downcloud Yes, she has read them. This video was inspired by those books. Nina really enjoys them, especially since they portray an independent minded girl, something you don't see a lot of in Japanese books.

  • Nina is so smart! Just 5 and she knows so much already! She even used the word accessory. My gosh! Being able to differentiate between plain and fancy and putting herself in the fancy row is advanced thinking!

I love it that she is bilingual. My grandsons should be bilingual in English and Spanish, but they aren't. They only know English. It's a shame, because I think it is so important!

Not only do you have a beautiful daughter, but she is very intelligent as well!

  • @Claycat4 Thank you! Do your grandsons have a chance to hear Spanish every day? Nina's English is far from perfect, but I do try to speak it to her everyday so she can understand it, at least. I think it is natural (and better) to have a primary language (Japanese in Nina's case) but it's also a missed opportunity if a parent does not use his or her native language with the child.

  • NINAちゃんが 教える First English Class~~ だっ!

    We all scream for Chocora!

  • Joy and pleasure to watch videos with Her ...greetings from Poland

  • even the way she says fancy is fancy ~ super cute as always!

i don't think you need to worry about her english grammar at this point. she's still only 5. the more practice she gets, the better she'll be. i know kids her age who's only language is english and they speak the same way.

  • @kmah88 Thanks for the encouragement. If Nina ever has a chance to live in the U.S. for a few months or a year, I think that will smooth out her speaking ability.

  • U are little fancy girl :))

  • She is so cute. (:

  • OMGOSH IS THAT THAT ONE ANIME'S STICK/WAND THING I SEEEEEE?? I recognize it from somewhere :/

    oh you think you fancy?

    haha she's so cute X3

  • @kokoqui Yeah, that's the wand from the purikura animation. It comes with changable crystal things for the top.

  • fancy and plain, so amazing for me.. make me smile, gold night Nina.

  • just wondering, it is the camera's mirroring or just the way she writes "plain" with the L backwards, i don't know whether it'a a common way of writing for children at her age or just dyslexia. my younger brother has dyslexia and sometimes he writes like that.. i'm just wondering. i hope you don't mind.

  • @itsjustanOBSESSION I think at Nina's age (5) a lot of kids write letters backwards and upside down etc. and in most cases they correct it in a couple of years. If Nina is still writing letters backwards when she gets into elementary school, we might check for dyslexia etc. but no, at this point, we are not worried about that.

  • @geofg Yes, basically all kids do this when they're learning. I remember being a very young kid and hesitating when writing b's and d's. It's like you know there's a long line and a circle, but forget the order of it, etc., until you get older and it becomes second nature. Like you, I'm a native-English speaker who learned Japanese, so I think you and I can understand how little kids feel writing Roman letters. Kinda like maybe how we feel remembering each part of a kanji to write it properly.

  • @MusicFanOnline ha ha Yeah, except kanji have a LOT more strokes to remember than English letters.

  • she says "fancy" so fancy.

    lol.

  • gold night. a fancy way to say good night. lol nina you're so smart and kawaii :D

  • your family made me smile and you all made my day happy =)

  • Do you have a methodic lessons how to teach child two languages?

  • @NastyaSwatch Not really. I try to only use English with Nina and her mother uses Japanese. And, we try to read her one book in Japanese and one in English every night. That's about it.

  • Love it! nice free and easy lessons Nina! : ) So imaginative! hope you're all doing fine, Geoff! God bless!

  • @mcs1775 Thanks, Cai! Keira is a natural at being fancy!

  • wow... i was having a horrible day...

after a couple of Nina videos, i'm off to sleep with a smile on my face.

thank you Nina! thanks Papa & Mama.

    have a Gold Night!

wait... i want some Chocora for midnight snack... heeheehee! you

  • @hybridstar08 Sorry to hear about your horrible day, but glad to hear you could go to bed with a smile on your face.

  • ugh..ever since I've read so many stories about haunted/possessed dolls, I'm soo creeped out by them....so the dolls in the vid creeped me out a lil.

Other than that, cute vid ^^ I love how she put herself in the fancy category and put you in the plain xD lmao!

and I like you did the intro design, soo faaAAAaancy

  • @xXPandaTsubasaXx ha ha ha! Nina hasn't seen any of those scary doll movies or stories yet, but I know what you mean. The first one I ever saw was with a doll called Talking Tina on the old original Twilight Zone. It was a doll that talked, but then started staying things like, "My name is Talking Tina, and I'm gonna kill you." Sticks with me to this day.

  • HAHA,,Sweety Fancy Nina !!

    Always Cute :))

    Gold evening,Nina ;p

  • This is so cute! I love how she streeses the "a" in faaaaaaancy. This is the good stuff you're always going to remember, ne? Parenting seems like such a joy. :)

    Goldbye! hehe ;)

  • @nihonjenn And, it's amazing how much you do forget. When I look at Nina's videos from even just a year or two ago I am always surprised at how much she has changed.

  • faaaaaaancy~

  • your nina very very so cute

  • She's gonna be a wonderful English teacher :D Now I understand the word "fancy" :D

    Greetings from Germany ;)

  • This is like pure sunshine on a (golden) Sunday morning to watch this. :)

Thank you for sharing, and a big Thank you to Nina! You always make me smile.

    /mtm

  • 賢い!:D Nina is so fancy!

  • She really is wonderful. What an imagination? I love it. I am off to Japan in 2 weeks!

  • @aussieellen What is the first thing you will eat when you get to Japan?

  • "Gold night." :)

  • faaaaaaaaaaaaannncyyyyyyyyy~! ^.^

  • I love how Nina sells the word "FAAANcy" each time and sits herself in the fancy line. It seems that she overestimated her pupil's ability to move up a level of abstraction from simple contrasts of similar items to the more general quality of "fancy" with the clock and basket (each placed in the proper group no less), but you have to challenge your students for them to advance. ;-)

  • @languageandhumor I'll admit I should have been alert to the fact that the clock was in the plain row, the basket in the fancy row, but I protest that the more general quality of "fancy" is not necessarily intuitive, at least not to a 44 year old plain guy like me. Perhaps, ultimately, you just can't teach fancy to some folks.

  • @geofg I think the trick is that Nina seems to be using "fancy" in the sense of "adorned" (including adding ice to water) and not (unadorned but) "luxurious" like cashmere or something.

Tell Nina that in French "ch" is "sh," so "chocolat" is ショコラ not チョコラ.

  • @languageandhumor So, if I adorn the button hole of my faded, dirty overalls with a rose, will Nina consider me fancy, I wonder.

  • After 2 weeks of Nina-marathon, we are so inspired to have a child of our own. She's so special. The ending shows us just how smart she is. She knows being French is associated with 'fancy'. And gold-night... lol.

  • @Pattamawanthefirst Nina marathon! ha ha I wish you the best in having a wonderful child of your own one day!

  • so cute : D

  • Nina Chan, u take my heart away over and over again !! From ur fanciest fanclub.

  • What's the small dolls we can see on your window at 1:51? it's look like a ghost !!!

  • @FelineNetri Those are called Teruteru-bouzu in Japanese. We put them in the window so that it will not rain.

  • At 5, her handwriting is already better than mine at ten times her age.

It is interesting how she is working on language skills, by sorting and comparing. Part of building a vocabulary is distinguishing between what is the word, and what is not the word.

  • @zoodensha What is an example of "what is not the word"?

  • @geofg What she was doing there. The basket is fancy, the clock is not. The one doll had hair clips and was fancy, the other doll was plain. It was cool watching her. One can imagine Webster or Linneaus doing the same thing when cooking up definitions.

  • @zoodensha Ah, what is "fancy" and what is not. I see. With kids, these ways of rationalizing the world come so naturally. I wish I could have learned Japanese that way. Learning as an adult, it has been a very frustrating process.

  • she is SO SO cleaver.. god bless her.

  • ohhhh... this is so cute.... i wanna be your fancy, Nina... ^^

  • She is so adorable! And such an imagination! I love to see her every time! I think I'm definitely going to start saying "gold night". I love it!!! You're lucky to have such a precious little girl!

    Cheers!

  • @LadyGrinningSoul Thanks! We do feel quite lucky to have Nina.

  • Nina is such a Fancy teacher! I like fancy teachers :D

  • Ice water, lol ^-^ so cute

  • I loved it when she sat herself along the fancy things row! XD Made my day, it was too funny! And ice water! Genius. XD Now I can enjoy drinking fancy water when it's hot. :D

I'm kind of proud to see her write! I think this is the first time I've seen it. She's growing into a good girl! XD

  • @HisakiNami Thanks! Yeah, even I sometimes have to go back and look at some of her older videos to realize how much Nina has grown.

  • omg!!!!! I'm a french 19 yo girl and my favorite shows are How I met your mother....and Nina <3<3<3 I have a japanese boyfriend , and i'm still young but when i see Cute Nina i just feel like having a lovely child just like her. Ah Nina when im sad , i come to watch your show!!!!! thank you to "Papa" for those videos!

Oh and Nina next time you know what would be "fancy" ? To say Good night in French! " Bonne nuit " !!!

    Your fan , Vivi.

  • @katsukagerou What is "How I Met Your Mother"? Is it a YouTube channel? Or a TV show? Bonne nuit? How do you pronounce it? Like bone newey? OK, I'll teach it to Nina. As Fancy Nancy says, "Everything sounds fancy in French."

  • @geofg its a funny tv show but its not really for Nina its more like adult comedy but don't get me wrong it's not something weird!!!It'a a father that explain to his kids how he met their mother and it's his life in NYC with this friends ! very funny! haha! you say ,,let me see if my japanese katakana skills an help me out here ボヌ・ヌイ!Hehe !!! Nina do you know i have a japanese boyfriend that is learning french with my help! let's see who will prononce it best!!! gogogogogo niiinnaaa!!! <3<3<3<3

  • @katsukagerou OK, I will see if I can watch "How I Met Your Mother" on the internet somehow.

    And we will practice ボンヌ・ヌイ

  • @geofg how i met your mother is an american sitcom with the actor who was doogie howser

  • @geofg Aw Nina is sooooo cute hehe =) ! She is indeed a fancy girl :D, she said that ''everything sounds fancy in french"? should I teach her french then haha?

  • She has such an elaborate vocabulary for her age. I don't think I knew what an accessory was until I was 10 or so. I always said hair clip or something simple. Have a Gold Night Nina!!!

  • @exathent Well, she learned that particular word from the Fancy Nancy books. I didn't even know that's what you call those things. ha ha

  • Excellent Lesson Sensai Nina!!! Thank you for teaching us the difference between Fancy and plain. I must say you are a very fancy young lady!!!! xoxo

  • @geofg HAHA! Yea, that's for sure! ;)

  • Nina's english improved a lot! I miss listening to her talk in japanese somehow.. She's so adorable! \o/

  • omg nina is so cute!! >.< now i understand the difference between plain and fancy! :D

  • Nina you and your english are so FANCY. Haha that so cute that she has a fascination with "fancy" !! =D What sass!

  • @kemushichan It was inspired by the Fancy Nancy books. Do you know them? They are quite clever and Nina has picked up a bit of American style "attitude" from them.

  • lol. I love the quotation marks around easy, fun, and free.

  • Nina Nina Nina....!!! Kawaiiiiiiiii.....

  • She is great. And a very good teacher (like her dad, right?)

I hope to see more lessons ^___^

  • @WoodGirl14 OK, hopefully she will have a new lesson soon.

  • I wanna be FAANNNcy too!
