This makes me think of my sixth grade school pageant in 1959. I was part of the angel choir and can still remember the homemade white gowns, the halos (mine has slipped a bit) and the wings. This is a beautiful video and very interesting to hear the English version. Until I saw this, I didn't know there was one. Thanks for educating us. Love it!
It's a little similar to Once in Royal David's City, though. I sometimes get them a bit mixed up. You can actually medley those two very easily and it sounds lovely.
@skypilot87uk this is the version I grew up with in the UK, culture shock when I had to sing it for the first time in Christmas assembly after moving to Canada (just stopping and looking around thinking 'we're singing O Little Town of Bethlehem right?' and proceeding to stand here looking stupid lol!). Is not the only Carol sand to a different tune, though the other escapes me at the moment. Will post when it comes to me.
So my answer is English version and Americanized version.
@skypilot87uk This version is a melody called "Forest Green" by Ralph Vaugn Williams, an English composer, with the lyrics adapted to fit the melody. The version you probably know best is a melody by Lewis Redner called "St. Louis". Both have the same lyrics.

The tune is called Forest Green and is the only tune that this carol is sung to in the UK. Have heard the tune that is used in the US and much prefer the one I know which is this one as it has a lot dignity.
It is very nice, but my point was that it is not the original. The original version is what is most commonly known in the US (as the carol was written here). The version known most in the UK is the altered, unoriginal version heard here.
lovely

O little town of bethlehem
how still we see the lie
above they deep and dreamless
sleep the silent stars go by
yet in thy dark street shines
the ever lasting lite
the hopes and fears of all the years are met in thee tonight
a nice song
thx for Posting
we sang it in Choir

Great singing although I prefer the original arrangement and music of the carol, not this revised version.

@Waldo99, just beacause it's not the original version doesn't mean it's not good, which is the impied message here.
