  • the high notes where ok but the low notes sounded like a fart.

  • Jeezus! Lol.. ATM I can hit high C but evry time I go over it I get sharp.. 10th grader :)

  • @diaznuts you are so wrong. Look at monette mouthpieces. Different mouthpiece weights are made for facilitating an easier upper register. Look up monette mouthpiece weight on YouTube and the video will show you.

  • wow faking is a terrible thing 1

  • Ahhh!!!

  • Awesome. Beautiful embouchure.

  • it wasn't fake, he was just using a enhanced mouthpiece,"cheating mouthpiece", look at the mouthpiece bore, somewhat like a French horn not a trumpet.

  • this was real kurt, sure you can because your embouchure is super strong.

  • this was real kurt, sure you can!!

  • well trumpet mps do matter for range because it makes it easier to play with more endurance in the upper register. true that u can have the same range on any mouthpiece but the tone quality the enduarance and accuracy can be modified through a mouthpiece and of course simply practicing.

  • can you give me information on Monette trumpets and mouthpeices.

  • So...I have a bach 7c and a bach 3c. I'm also a trombone player of 6 years with a 6.5 AL. I can do this...right? o.o

  • this is so fake!!

  • Ive been trying to change my embouchure..i cant play high notes with the embouchure you are using in this video. For me when im playing high notes i use most of the top of the mouthpiece. Ive been working on this :\

  • HOLY SHIT!

  • Very nice! It should be noted how clear all the partials between the Pedal C and Double C speak. I posted a video of myself doing the same thing but I don't feel mine are as clear. Sometimes they are but that particular day, and I only went up in my video. Maybe I'll redo it soon and post a new one. Again, Very Nice!!!

  • i can hit that high c but not as clear sum times a little less but the other time is just sou nds like a whistle i can get very rarely

  • nice vid.

for THE guaranteed way to play high trumpet visit my page.

  • amen brother! love it!

  • That' true!

  • fake!!!

  • yes, this was fake...i before Maynard's passing, he came to my home and played behind me while I faked it....i was suprised somebody found us out.

    .....sorry Maynard, but oh well!

  • Ha, ha ;-) I see! Thats the absolute truth!!!!

joking aside your vid is really brilliant!!!

  • Very nice!! =) i cant play that high but I can get lower in the register than this guy :) but 5 stars for very high notes!! :D

  • you scary me..X D

  • wow thats the type of range and control and embouchure strength I'm working to achieve

  • These comments are funny. Different mouthpieces help get different tone, not higher range. If you can get a high g on a high-compression mouthpiece (or what some of the narrow-minded mentalities call "cheaters"), you can get it on a Bach 1X, except it sounds much different. There's different faces, hence the variety of mouthpiece sizes and shapes. It's all about what feels comfortable and the sound you're going for, not what your jaded HS band director who couldn't play out of the staff thinks.

  • @diaznutz there's so much wrong with this comment i dont know where to start

  • @supercock99 I'm not even sure what comment of mine this was directed at....but if it's at the one about narrow-mindedness with mouthpieces, start by losing your self-centered attitude...and/or practice a lot for many years...then you'll know what I'm talking about. Do you need a youtube video demonstration?

  • @diaznutz if you can play a g on a 1B you can pretty much play it on anything, but if you spend your life playing an super shallow tight bore whatever you cant just transfer your range to another mouthpiece.

  • @diaznutz Well I don't know, I find it a lot easier on lower numbered mouthpieces to get a higher range

  • @diaznutz no dude there are mouthpieces specifically made to play higher

  • @Josh2658 Sorry dude, I hate to break the news but your bitter hs band director or classical trumpet teacher who can barely play above a high C that told you that is wrong. If you meant that that they make mouthpieces that help you get high notes for 10 minutes a day because your lips will thin out when you jam it into the back of your throat, and then you can't make a sound after a week of doing that everyday, then yeah, you're right... lol

  • @diaznutz different mouthpieces make higher/lower ranges more easily accesable, as in its easier to buzz your lips using certain ones. No they cant pitchbend or autotune but it makes those notes easier to play.

  • it's not just the mouthpiece no, but if you're playing say a 3c and then switch it up to something like...idfk, a Bobby Shew B4, it makes it real easy to hit high notes. that is...until your lips adjust to it after a couple months.

  • it's a horn mouthpiece but i don't think it's is easier to get that note with it

  • thats true its a french horn mouthpiece and when put on a trumpet it makes the higher octave ridiculously easy to hit

and vice versa if you put a trumpet mouthpiece to a french horn

  • @staros97400 that is not true.

i play trumpet and french horn, so naturally ive tried that before, its actually much higher to get a high note out on a french horn mp.

  • I have been playing for many years but never had a trumpet teacher. my reading is good and i am also an arranger. my lips always get tired and air scape from the sides. beacuse i have a gap and a very deep bite, do you think that this may be the factor and what i can do to reach at least the high G. tks

  • @pensoken wow same with me, i have a large overbite and a small gap between my top front teeth, my range is up to a high c right now, been playin for 3 1/2 years

  • @pensoken just do a bunch of lips slurs, pitch bends, and long tones and that SHOULD help. but like, the improvements aren't instant. so just take time with those and stuff. message me if you want more details and/or questions because i would LOVE to answer them!

  • i would give you 5 stars but it's disabled -.-

  • same

  • very nice!

like the controle in the upper register too

  • what size mouth piece do you use?

  • I use a neill sanders 17s. I am looking to buy a spare and have heard that Kanstul can make them....it is a strange, wide, yet shallow mp.

  • what would you recomend i use? im in a jazz band in high school and im 1st chair. im realy trying hard to increase my range. its been well over a year and i just cant seem to do much with this mouth piece. i just dont wanna secrifice tone quality on another

  • First look to solve your issues in the breath/air-area before grabbing another mouthpiece. When you are able to increase your range with, let's say, a major third, then a smaller mouthpiece can give you a finishing touch by giving your improved range more projection. But most of the range problems come from a lack of good air support.

    I've heard people play a double C on a Bach 1C, so don't worry...

    Good luck!

  • it looks like my french horn mp

  • @yourbrassinstructor I use a 1 1/2 C, weakling. . . JK you're good

  • Playing his mouthpiece wont make you be able to do that. It probably took him many year of hard work to get to this level

  • Yes! It's all about the air, man! BFA, I was in your situation back in h.s(1yr ago) and have improved immensely thanks to peers. Trick is, you have to work your way up. Start working on pedal tones which should help your embouchure, then just practice on your range. Air is key here, making sure its a steady airflow so you won't have to sacrifice much tone quality as you go up. Endurance can also be a plus....but that should come with practice!

  • Are you serious? Some retards think that mouthpieces actually make you able to do what this guy did? Thumbs up for you trumpetslayer, you get range by practicing a lot, not by using a silly mouthpiece.

  • Its not just the mouthpeice but it makes a big difference.

  • it will help though. its a cheater.

  • That looks like a french horn mouth piece

  • Do you use the maggio method?

  • i do!!!!! : )

  • Damn, that was a solid, clean double C - not like most of the crappy DHCs you see on here

  • Yes, but their range was not that great and they mainly played classical stuff. If you watch videos of Maynard, Chase, Faddis, you will notice there is not a whole lot of movement in the embouchure unless there are lips trills, shakes, etc..involved.

  • Thanks for the quick reply and posting! I think the video is great and really shows off your control. I guess the embouchure that shows the least movement is more efficient, from what I see in this and other brass players. Have you ever encounted a student with a lot of movement through their whole range?

  • Yes, and these students exhibited quite a bit of excessive pressure in the upper registers
