im actually glad i worked in this area for 2 years, it was a very poor low class neighborhood, my car was broken into and another coworker was assaulted on the way to work only a block from the bensenville police dept
I lived and grew up from the Chicago and worked at O'Hare for many years. I'm familiar with the neighborhoods and people. Illinois, best people on Earth!! Except for the creepy little bastards with the beedy little eyes, called politicians; who'll do anything for money and someone else's bed. Bensenville, I agree, didn't need to be destroyed. Anyway, thanks for allowing me to vent on your site. And nice videos great work!
Who cares! Tear down! This recession already destroyed everything else. How can you sell a house for $110,000.00 when a couple of years ago it was worth $400,000.00? Tear them all down! By the way, what the hell is O'Hare expanding for? Like that'll do any good for anything! Rest n peace Bensenville.
I somewhat agree but I'll still use this analogy. Chicago is doing the equivalent of trying to make a Volkswagen larger for additional seating. It can be done but it would be more cost effective to start from scratch. No matter how much land the city buys in Bensnville it won't be enough. For the same money, Peotone could have been completed by now. Ironically, the folks that got moved got their houses bought out at the high end of the real estate cycle. I hope they spent the money wisely.
did we all forget about the troublemakers and crime that came from that area of bensenville known as the townies? they got paid handsomely for there land right before this wonderful recession that leaves every one else stuck with a 200k home that no one will buy for over 100k so suck it up. Chicago, expand away !
I have lived at 136 Garden ave. i miss my home my memories and the neighborhood. It sad to see all these homes getting destroyed, it was such a nice street to live on. miss it very mych
Chicago has deep pockets because it has the highest taxes.
Instead of a bigger airport that takes up more ground space, GPS guided personal air vehicles and some transcontinental separated high-speed passenger rail lines would be a more reasonable solution to transportation needs. The airport and large aircraft are not a one size fits all solution for moving people.
Oh, I have been there before. I live in Bensenville, and there is only one person that live on one block. I wonder how scary it is to live there right now. Also, I had about three friends that left due to the expansion. Now it seems like they are not going to use it for the airport. But, I guess you can say our little Village of Bensenville with it's Music in the Park and Fireworks at Redmond cannot withstand the City of Chicago. Also, it looks like they've put up a new bridge at Irving Park.
@ipfeldspar Thanks for showing 128 Garden, the address where I grew up between 1952 and 1969. That is a different house than the one I grew up in as my old house burned or was removed several years ago, but it still brings back memories.
You are very welcome. I think I can identify with you as the family farm of my grand parents, was ripped out, and is now a gravel pit. However, as long as we still have the memories, our homes will always exist!
Roughly everything North of the railyard (Green Street is the Southern boundry for the tracks), and East of York. I have a bit of the Irving Park Rd area on one of my vids).
I lived in the town houses that are located at the end of that neighbore hood, we were one of the last families to leave, Im heading back to Illinois this tuesday and planning to visit that area one last time.
i lived in that part of bensenville i really miss my old house i grew up in that house and now it's goin to be torn towrn down =[[ i never really thought they were really serious about that i guess i was too little now i really miss my house

Agreed. It is still kind of weird to regularly see Chicago Fire Department trucks on York Road.

They could use it to make a pretty good disaster movie before they tear it down.

I am pro-houses-Bensenville, but in a odd sort of way, YES, the perfect setting for some sort of shoot-em-up!

I hope that means you got out because you wanted to and not because you would have been forced out.
ipfeldspar 3 years ago
ipfeldspar, if you are responding to me, then yes, i moved out because my mom wanted to move to carol stream because her co-workers lived there.
MarkSamurai5 3 years ago
Yes, that was the question. This would make you one of the "lucky" ones. You left by choice, not because of the expansion.
