  • 2:16 I like how the hero just walk upstairs peacefully while there are monsters and tentacles everywhere

  • that castle would have taken centuries to build

  • and at the end he has to go all the way back with the girl who just gave him a kiss on the cheek...

  • All this f**king trek for a kiss on the cheek....

  • After all the shit he went trough I do hope the princess gave him a proper fuck

  • "Thanks my dear knight...But there was a stairway to my room, FUCKING IDIOT"

  • I have to say it. The princess is a bit of a ditz.

  • 2:20 I've seen enough Hentai to know where this is going.

  • And if you were Dirk would you have done it for the money or for her?

  • Do you think Dirk wanted to save Daphne for the reward/gold/money or for her? Give me your opinions everyone!

  • This game was impossible for me. I only tried it a few times and only got past the drawbridge and figured I would just cut my losses and not bother with it anymore. Def. more fun to watch than play!

  • I spent a fortune in quarters every weekend watching my weekly allowance vaporize into this damn machine! I finally beat it tho, $296.25 later!

  • this is the only game that watching its playthrough is better than actually playing it!

  • I sucked so bad at this game. So I hated it. It had a sister game that came out a bit later, I think it was called Space Ace.

  • @tekubus This is a very hard game. And intimidating too. Plus, it was so hard to get used to these graphics unlike the basic computer graphics you see on Pac Man and Donkey Kong. I also remembering watching this cartoon on Saturday mornings which is now available on DVD.

  • this is a game????

  • i remember playing this game for about 5 seconds, then getting killed nearly instantly !

  • She's a babe but not worth dying for.

  • Daphe's so hot - she reminds me of Norma Jean.

  • @steve41557 Agreed!

  • I like seeing it all the way through, but it's not really the same without all of the deaths. The deaths were the best part!

  • 2:28 - has to be the hardest scene. I could never make it past those swinging things

  • Daphne had better have sucked this guy off for a year straight and swallowed every time he told her to after all the bullshit he went through to save her ditzy ass.

  • @GrooTheWanderer80 Well said and spot on!

  • What if the main character was Dovahkiin from Skyrim?

  • Getting Daphne is one thing, Getting out is another.

  • The free way to pick up a hooker

  • i was fairly young when i first played this. Luckily i had this on PC so I never spent a massive amount of cash to continue. My PC lagged alot so i rarely survived.

  • i don't remember any of these paths.

  • @SLURPOS-you spent 3 time what I did when DL first came out. I nailed it with $100 so I guess that was 50 tries. The most awesome game of it's time. It would give me chills whenever he would "die". Persistance, perserverance, and a willingness to get to the end was worth every penny. I'd like to thank Don Bluth & Co. for a well thought out game. Like to play that again if I could do it without spending another penny! LOL

  • Thumbs up if you remember the horse scene from Family guy.

  • Wouldve been awesome game if they removed the awkward transitions, screams from the hero, and the fidgetyness...

  • I like how Don Bluth made her so amused.

  • Sorry, but the princess is in another castle.

  • Heh, the endings cute.

  • fuck that princess fuck her hard she is not worth it

  • It cost .50 to play.

  • For those who asked, you basically respond to on screen events by either pressing a direction or the sword button. You don't control Dirk directly most of the time. Sometimes objects or parts of the screen flash to give you clues, but sometimes you just need to guess or know.

I have to disagree with the people I hear say DL isn't a real game. I love it, it's all about timing and enjoying the animations.

  • Probably pumped about 300 bucks into this machine before I made it all the way. All those years ago

  • i beat it without dying on a psp.

  • i never understood this game, how did you play it?

  • Is it just me, or does Dirk run really club footed? Guess it's hard to avoid with those big clown feet of his.

  • So this is what would happen if Thumbelina dyed her hair and turned into a slut.

  • I remember playing this when i was 10 and it cost a dollar to play and you lasted about 10 seconds. The animation was unbelieveable and never seen any arcade game like it at the time.. Too bad this game swallows quarters. Could never find anyone rich enough to complete this.

  • @oldschoolfan420 I heard that.. awesome game but impossible to play.

  • This game just swallowed my quarters when I was kid. Graphically ahead of its time but too damn hard to play.

  • Princess is fappable

  • this was one of the hardest meanest worst arcade games ever made, mainly because the likelihood of completing without going bankrupt from the money you pumped into it was almost impossible as a youngster you got very little fun for your money with this game, I think it would let you continue, if you pumped in more coins before a time limit, it was like the mafia boss of arcade machines in terms of brutal money extraction, this video the best way to see the end bar having freeplay on a machine.

  • @beingatliberty I was15 when it came out, and I remember how impossible this game was. The learning curve was steep as hell, and you received no hints as to what you were supposed to do in each situation. Your character would just stand there and then suddenly be killed. Didn't it cost $1.00 to play? Yeah, that was fun-a dollar and the game would end after 30 seconds!Fortunately, the guys who worked at the arcade could play it for free, so they figured it out and showed everyone what to do.

  • your the king of the world

  • Comment removed

  • For some reason the main character always reminded me of Bruce Cambel, I think it might be the chin

  • This guy has the reflexes and timing of a God.

  • anyone else notice that his sword gets taken at 7:04 but while he is chasing it you can see it is still in its sheath also?

  • Hope you enjoyed getting to the princess. Fun parts gunna be getting out...

  • I can't even recall how much money I spent trying to beat this game at the arcade, never even coming CLOSE.

  • I wonder why dirk never wore any armor, it might have helped him in some scenes.

  • Beeeuuuuu dung dung dung ding!

  • I knew this kid back in the 80s who played this blind folded.

  • dat princess dress alittle sluty ^^

  • This ate pound coins in the eighties managed to clear a few screens before I died I like the cut scene that just hides a loading delay

  • Why every time you into another of the castle, it shows... I don't know what that is... the animation of Dirk returning back from the grave?

  • Really cool game for its day.

  • how exactly do you play this game?

  • @chachiercolaful The game is a video disc with MANY videos, only one path of correct choices allows the game to progress. Every few moments there will come a time where one of five choices can be made by the player: move the joystick up, down, left, or right or pressing the sword button. The correct action progresses the game, an incorrect one will lead to Dirk dying in some way.

  • so...many...breaking...floors

  • played this loads on my old Philips CD-I playrer still have the console

    little bit dusty!

  • Dude, I wasted alot of my dad's quarters on this game and never got to far. sheesh

  • I wonder why the one thing that can kill the badguy is always somewhere in his lair

  • @XxusagibunnyxX So they can prevent someone getting it from elsewhere/they can keep it safe while trying to find a way to destroy it?

  • I love how she poses so sexily when you finally get to her and talks... so vapidly. Oh what men do for a blonde.

  • @NegaDruid Absolutely right!

  • Just like I remember, a baffling ordeal that ate quarters.

  • @kludd28 I agree -- I couldnt make heads or tails of this thing. I would move the joystick and nothing would happen, I wouldnt jump or anything, I would get killed instantly. It was a total waste of time and money. It looked cool though but playing it really sucked.

  • @tedcantu1

Due to what technology could offer in the 80'.

What you see is pre-rendered and stored on a laserdisc.

You need to learn to move the joystick at right time and the next scene is loaded.

  • this knight is a pussy

  • I remember playing this on my 3DO and not having a clue how to play.

  • is it just me that thinks that the princess sounds like a dirty slut?

  • This is exactly how my first date went...

  • What the hell is with the skelliton thing after every room

  • Don Bluth was good at animating hot chicks... Can't say the voice actress is all that sexy sounding though.

And I love Dirk's squeals in the rapids :D

  • Was that all... gameplay?!

  • To SLAY the DRAgon, use the MAgic SWORD!

  • @ChoukoCha xDDD

  • I Love how Dirk screams like Homer Simpson!

  • the cage is locked, with a key

    Xd

  • the things guys do to get laid...

  • oh Dirk we all know whats going to happen to you after the iris at the end.

  • did you know youtube vids are now 15

  • The way you suppose to play the arcade version is to treat the game like an adventure "A giant snake is attacking you kill it and then move away quick" but on the DVD and Blu Ray version it "press fire then press forward" totally spoiling the whole experience and it does this in the worse possible way with a bad controller...

  • Sorry I don't care what anyone says the arcade was brilliant (I played it for 8 years) But the DVD and Blu Ray versions are dire...

  • Hey, I'm sure I remember this game being re-released on a different format or a early console (probably around the 90's? I might be wrong) but how did you play the original? Was it like a point and click?

  • LMAO!!!! 00:48- 00:53 she says: '' save me!'' ( or baby!) then look at the door, thumbs up if u get it

  • It'd cost me a million quarters to complete this game.

    Also, I'd ruin that princess.

  • Wow, I finally get to see the whole Dragon's Lair completed after all these years. I don't think I ever saw any players get past even a third of the game. Thanks for posting.

  • Hahaha I dunno why but I love Singe (the dragon) he's so cool!

  • so much work just to get that pussy

  • ahh memoires very

     cool

  • a dvd game?

  • can't blame the dragon for kidnapping the princess and keeping her in a clear crystal ball

  • brings back memories

  • either this is outta sequence or there's bits' missing from the arcade game

  • It's both out of sequence and has missing bits. I editted out the mirrored duplicate rooms because of the youtube time constraint.

More importantly, the order of the rooms in the 2002 DVD version differs from the arcade version, plus the order of the rooms is not random like in the arcade version but lineair. Kind of a drag but hey, at least ppl with a dvd player could play Dragon's Lair in full mpeg2 glory :-)

  • @MrKilopixel you can edit them in again now, since the time limit is now 15:30

  • These game looks awesome for 1983 but if this is the one I used to play back in the 1980's(possibly this one or a similar sort of game) it ate your money like a bitch.

  • Dirk the shit magnet!

  • I was pretty good at this game inthe arcade. I never got to the dragon's lair or rescued the princess until I got the PC game.

  • Would do this too to get the this woman :P haha

  • Lol.... I have the ORIGINAL for the game boy color. :P From when I was like.. 5 years old. xD

  • @StickarenaCA

The Gameboy Color version is great, I'll never know how they fit all that animation on a gameboy cartridge.

  • @MrKilopixel Much Better that NES version

  • @StickarenaCA It was released on other formats before the GBC. Not "original' , you have a rare GBC version.

  • @StickarenaCA The GBC version wasn't the original.

  • Slut

  • This looks so annoying.

  • LOL

  • It's like this guy is cursed. Everything he touches dissolves.

  • I find this game really good, but impossible to finish! I can't do it.....!

  • lol wtf does he jump everywhere instead of taking one goddamn step?

  • There should have been a special ending where Dirk puts his face in her boobs, and if you can keep time with the "boobies flashing" he works her into a climax.

  • Playing this thing would stress you the fuck out. I'd be shaking like a motherfucker after a run through of this.

  • I wonder how they got out of there, that castle was falling apart!

  • Who the hell says save me in a seducing way!? He's a real fool. She did not need to be saved.

  • @CGM5 watch dragon lair 2, he scored.

  • @Eduardojgn I know

  • this game reminds me soo much of my childhood! great

  • he is gonna get laid! ooh yess!

  • @laurentmarc And considering that in the sequel, they had, like 10 kids, hell yeah, he certainly did get laid.

  • i would say he was stupid, but that women was HOT!

  • Bowers wishes he had built a castle that dangerous...

  • For a piece of ass like that, i'd go thru all that too.....lol

  • oh my gawd... if every woman spoke and acted like that i'd have to blow up this planet. but if they all looked like that, well, we could negotiate.

  • Well, is it me or the pre-2003 DVD port had no on-screen arrows and showed the death scenes anytime you entered a new scene? And what's the deal with having obviously easy scenes at the beginning plus that 'three door' room after the drawbridge, when on the real thing, this room never actually shows up after the drawbridge itself... Something tells me it's not exactly a playthrough but rather reposted game videos from this version... No offense, those are just my thoughts.

  • Don Bluth rules!

  • Yeahhh, whisper whisper

  • @gvenema

no. this was an actual arcade game that you played with a joystick and a sword button. it really was a fun game. i have not played it in over 15 years. last time i did was when sega cd was out. around 1994 or so.

  • ...And after a few years of marriage and an additional 50lbs on Daphne's ass, Dirk gives her back to the dragon

  • I remember this damn game pissed me off so much dying so much... But man it took me 4days to beat this lol. Cause i had school and all that jazz back in the day =D Thanks for upload ^^

  • Jesus. Understanding how this game worked it looks like a REAL pain to play.....trial and error and remember what to do when....! (I played limbo recently which made me think of this, but at least you had time to work stuff out!)

  • lucky shit XD 10:31-10:35

  • @gamecubemasterkc1 after all the shit he went through that the least he deserves. ^_^

  • To slay the dragon, use the magic sword! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!! Goddamn the end always got me pumped.

  • Makes a change from Dirk's usual habit of making Kenny look immortal.

  • The Princess is the hottest game babe ever! nuff said

  • @tubthumpr Gotta respectfully disagree. She's hot, to be sure, but Kimberly from Space Ace takes the crown for me.

  • So ahead of its time, the art and animatioon are still amazing.

Forget CGi, it always looks so clinical, there is no replacement for hand draw frame by frame. Ever.

    And I work with graphics!

  • @Jamerio3D ever? that's a pretty stupid comment.

i'd say nowadays cg is as good or better than hand drawn. look at the owls movie coming out.. and toy story 3.. seriously. look at avatar.

  • @sharpnova2

BS, avatar, looks so clinical, nothing compares to this because everything is drawn by hand, Avatar uses so much pcopied and paste work its not even funny.

Even the trees at the start are taken from teh VUE default tree library.

  • @Jamerio3D clinical? not sure what you're trying to mean with that word. anyways, hand drawn looks FLAT. two-dimensional. CG looks fully 3d. more immersive. more impressive. in short, better.

  • @Jamerio3D

By clinical, I mean clean and almost too perfect. ANyway its clear you don't agree, it doesn't mean that I'm wrong.

It just my opinion diffreers, but given I run my own visualisation business and turned down a contract with microsoft game studios, I probably have a better opinion on the matter than you given i spent most of life around computer graphics.

  • Ye Boulders, Ye Rapids, ye whirpools.

  • omg i didnt know that men can kill charazard!

  • 7:32 quite a well-earned reward if ya ask me

  • Just shows you what men will do for a piece of ass. We all have done stupid shit, just not this extreme.

  • @groobmaster Daphne was one hell of piece of ass so she was worth it.

  • @amazingdany Bet Mario/Insert Video Game Hero Her wishes his put out like that.

  • @amazingdany Agreed!

  • classic

  • The princess looks like a bloody tart...

  • Okay, really don't like the princess, but I like how the knight reacts and makes noises when stuff comes out at him, kinda more realistic to how a real person would react.

  • Wow, there's definitely a lot of weird things in that castle! What a complicated looking game, how long did it take to beat it?

  • Man, I cannot believe how many times Dirk died in this video.

  • @ObiWanBillKenobi

Yeah, I don't understand why they put the end of the death animation (in this playthrough, this is from the DVD version) between each scene when he never actually dies. You only see that animation when you die.

Anyways, this version sucks. It's completely unplayable. I bought it about 10 years ago. It's meant to be played with your DVD remote, but the lag is awful. This Fall DG 1&2 plus Space Ace are being released on one disc for the Nintendo Wii (for only $29.95 US!).

  • @theraptorfan100

Hopefully the Wii version will play well.

  • dang thats difficult... 5/5

  • @Omnigamers

yeah..I kept getting beaten by that Lizard king bastard >:(
