  • I had a piano for 3 years now, and I can't play by ear, hopefully this helps !

  • i still can't get it still

  • This program is very good, got me started enough to continue on my own. Thank you.

  • The intro melody is just amazing! wow

  • Im learning with this lessons and thanks to u i am able to express myself on the piano but i need more work i hope be a great pianist like u..God bless u :D

  • Filipino musicians are very good in learning songs by ear. The first step in learn the 12 major chords and its variations.

  • I have his course. It's good. I'm Filipino. I'm good. :o)

  • My husband bought the bundle for me. I had struggled note by note to make progress, but, beginning with Pattern Piano and Keyboard (which I didn't think I needed), I was immediately engaged and challenged. David is a great teacher and I recommend his entire course work. After pricing private teachers, these pay for themselves in just a couple of lessons! I enjoy my lessons daily and am making the kind of progress, at my own pace, I hoped for!

  • wow that was a really kind of you to take the time and write! I'm so glad you're having a great time with the course. Please let me know how it goes... Best - David Sprunger

  • I wish I had a piano like yours, thanks for your incredible performance... You are amazing!

  • i wish i had private teacher like you, thanks

  • I think, ultimately, all muscians want to be capable of doing both. Playing by ear and being able to read sheet music. Both are impressive skills.

  • Filipino musician are so good in playing by ear. You are right, rhythmic pattern is a guide that becomes powerful thru experience. Just by listening to a melody, we somehow knew the chord progression of the song.

  • Hey mate,, i really liek what you are doing here. One thing though,, its very unclear as in what order to view these videos which leaves room for a lot of knowledge to be missed. perhaps you can direct the order you would want us to learn this in? thanks alot mate :P

  • H i StromTrooper - "Pattern Piano and Keyboard" (shown in this video) is the course I recommend going through first. From there, students can dig into any of the advanced courses (Blues, Salsa, Phat Chord Voicings...) depending on their interests. "Ear Training 101" is designed to be a 5-min per day compliment to all of the courses. Best wishes! David Sprunger

  • I honestly think that this is kind of stupid. I learned how to play the piano using sheet music and I am expressing my emotions just as much as when I play be ear.

  • Hi Danceforeternity112 - I hear you, and am sorry I conveyed that music readers were "less" than play by ear players. I also read and find a lot of joy digging into other people's compositions. (Brahms is actually my fav). What I meant to say is that playing by ear is how you can express your own musical thoughts (as opposed to other composer's musical thoughts). I actually encourage my students to pursue every angle of music - learn to play by ear, learn to read, learn music theory, etc. - DS

  • thank you for replying to my comment so kindly. I understand now what you are saying about about expressing your own musical thoughts and I agree with you completely now that I understand. I actually enjoy playing by ear rather than playing with sheet music. thank you

  • i've been relying on music sheets since i started playing the piano...im dying to play any song on my own...tnx for the video!

  • this video has certainly made me want to learn so much more than i already do! what you said makes so much sense, and i'm glad i've wached it... i'll make sure i don't get too caught up in sheet music.

  • you're right, i've been playing classical sheet music for years and most people would find whatever I play to be impressive. But if someone told me to improvise and play whatever is in my head, I would sound no better than a beginner.

  • So true, I can sightread music no problem and memorize a lot, but when it comes to improvising, I can't do it worth beans.

  • I was going to try out that program before I even watched this vid

  • WOW! I love how you're on youtube. I never knew! I found your website a couple of years ago and I loved it, and now it's on youtube!

  • well...i already do.me and my sister can play the beginning of my chemical romance-welcome to the black parade.its pretty cool actually.

  • I love the Baby/Parrot thing, now I really get it. You phrased it beautifully, and understandable! I'm definitely going to try!

  • i'm going to start now.

    Thank you for helping.

    -Katie

  • hi so if i purchase this dvd or lesson i cna learn this

  • when your explaining chords "Up high, down low over any chord" what chords are those? they are so beautiful hope you dont mind me borrowing them.

    thanks

    -Lucas

  • Mr.Sprunger, this video gave me special thoughts,it inspired me a lot.

    I'll continue what I started.

I don't know but when I watch this I remember when my friends laughing at me saying why am I playing without music sheets..that I don't even know what I'm pressing. Now I know that I want to express the music inside of me.

    thank you Mr. Sprunger.:)God Bless.

  • hey, see i want to learn how to play the piano but i can't read the music sheet, cause i am too lazy to memorize it, so i thought that this might be a good idea, but see the thing is, i want to be able to listen to a song that doesn't have piano like a normal song, and play it, will the course be able to help with that too, cause i need to be able to guarantee that i will be able to learn it or else my mom won't allow me to but one, please tell me, thanks

  • David you rock and you have a nice voice and nice background music!!!

  • Thank you very much David, for videos and for words about peace in your book and site. You are great!

  • That actually makes sense, man!

  • That's so very cool - made my day. I also have been wearing out the fingers on the keys this weekend! Thanks for taking the time to write.

  • i have been following these lessons- they are great

  • so hard to play by ear, any one can give me some tips or website to learn how to play by ear for free? msg me

  • playing by ear? i was born with that gift

  • wow this video really helped

  • I found this to be an excellent video and an excellent presentation for your product. Blinks or no, I am headed to the website to learn more. I play by ear, but have only just begun. I need all the help I can get. Thanks! Five Stars!

  • LOL......your right, you dont BLINK.

    Good job

  • Good concept, and it's got a good ear training program which comes with the package... This David Springer guy though is a really funny guy... lol, and look at him he doesn't blink!

  • Ahh! This is D. Sprunger - that is so funny. My friends have a running gag about me not being able to blink on this video. I even went back and tried to photoshop some blinks in... oh well, piano players can be pretty goofy dudes!

  • i've been watching a bunch of piano tutorials and such on here but i don't have a piano or keyboard XD but i hope to get one soon.

  • What if you didn't need a Music Teacher and you could learn any music level in the privacy of your own home?

What would happen if a child broke the complex code of sheet music? What would happen if one no longer needed sheet music? What would happen if it were true?

  • For some odd reason. You remind me of Tom Arnold? ANyways nice video.

  • Hi David, I'm a complete beginner and i'm finding your lessons a very useful and interesting way to learn..Thanks

  • David: You are one of the most gifted, incredible musicians on the planet; so much "feeling" and musicianship BUT I bought your first "Pattern Piano" and got lost. I have actually played since I was 16 and am 54 now, still the course just didn't "click" with me. I want to try some of your other courses though because your chord stylings are amazing, the very best......slow down and be a master teacher!!

  • Hello David, First:Bravo! Great player, nice video-lesson.But I rather doubt anybody can learn piano "by ear", since we deal here with advanced techniques.Though this is a splendid lesson for those "classical" pianists, wich are prisoners of the score.Congratulations and go on ! Petrumusic

  • I learned to play by ear and I enjoy and can play a lot of the examples

  • thanks David

  • Nice! Very helpful. I also made some music videos. Do watch them.

  • I think David is terrific, both as a teacher and a performer. Have you heard him sing? amazing. Anyway, I have his CD, and am so pleased I bought it.

    Joan

  • whats up man... i subscribe to ur channel!!! i agree with ur comment... ha ha!!

  • and all of you people who say that they play by ear, if you can play one of those hardcore classical stuff by ear, then you reign supreme

  • learning to play music by ear is a gift from God. u guys should be thankful that you have that gift. but please don't criticise others... sry if i offended anybody...

  • erm... what i meant about the criticising was for the others, not those who said they knew how to play music by ear

  • why bother learning to play music by ear when you can just read the sheet music?

  • he didnt blink aaaaaaaaaaah he didnt blink HE DIDNT BLINK

  • HA HA HA you rule!!

  • I do not think playing by ear is cheating otherwise we would never have new music made. All music was first played by ear. Someone took the time to take the music they heard, play it, and then notate it. Most of the classical masters played by ear. The notation was just a means of transfering those ideas to others.

  • some of the most gifted pupils never learn notation, wonder why? dyslexia...

Peoples with dyslexia are strong multi dimensional and visual learners, so, for them is sometimes hard to learn by conventional methods...

Vangelis is example of that kind of mind, he cannot read or write musical notation.

Also, Liam Howlett is just one another example of visual learner.

  • Hey, i was around 11 when i started playing the piano, and thats the exact thing i was doing, i can't read notes but i learned through Sight and Sound

  • well... i want to play piano so i will try it :P obviously... i will not pay for it lol

  • I can play by ear anyways, I just can't read the music very quickly because it is funner playing by ear. Doesn't even have any teaching in it though.. just an introduction... yeah that parrot thing is funny though lol.

  • i play by ear, and i'm grade 7 standard but i keep failing my sight reading cause i cant read music. if you give me a tune i will pick it up easily, that doesnt mean i cant play piano, it just means i cant sight read. i am still a good piano player tho! its not cheating deef3! stupid idiot!

  • yeah....parrots are pretty funny

  • WTF guys? That was really disrespectful. There's a difference between constructive criticism and flaming. Most of the stuff you said weren't valid points, furthermore none of the stuff you said was irrelavent. To say something to the extent you guys did was really uncalled for. For the people who said they wasted there time watching this vid, even more the guys who made it was wasting his own time to try to teach incconsiderate morons like yourselves.

  • its good

    arrangements, hmm...

  • so... where is the rest of the movie?

  • you CANT learn to play piano by ear. thats sumthing your born with.

  • BLINKKKKKK.

  • The guy has a point though. I have never been tought how to read a single note my entire life, and yet I know how to play a lot of movie scores and some classic stuff by Bach, all by ear. Once you know the basics, you can pretty much play around on the piano randomly, much like you would randomly select a path while downhill skiing.

  • Music has no defined structure. Its like water, you need to recognize one note and use it like a cup to hold the rest, or compare the pitch. It takes a good brain to recognize the different notes.
