People FORGET Buicks were badass Muscle cars in the 60s. You never when the light turned green if that Buick next to you will SMOKE when you put your foot down.
1972 Buick upped the ante by stuffing that smog free 455 into the Centurion convertable. That 72 was like a pre 70 duece and a quarter convertable since Electra wasn't a rag top option anymore. My favorite land yact for looks, power and all around cool.
smoked by the buick of course. If you would have known about rigs you would have known you didn't stand a chance. Americans didn't fuck around with our rigs back in the day. Buick electras are really popular for many reasons ranging from demo derbys to hopped up lowriders. The buick probably isn't even modded out.
@ga1999 Actually, since this is a 69 model,it has the 430 v8. 70 was the first year for the 455 in buicks. However, BOTH are gorillas when it comes to torque. I had a 70 Electra Limited for 10 years and LOVED the response.
Merging lane are ridiculously short in Germany. That's because Many German highways were designed at a time (the late thirties when cars didn't go very fast). So you have to stop. You do not have enough runway to pick up speed to merge safely with high speed traffic
Unfortunately that's what we believe is the reason why we see German drivers entering highways and major roads here with a full stop - instead of accellerating and merging into traffic.
I tried to reply to Rotzloeffi with a quote from a German website with traffic rules, but it seems like he has banned me from making further comments.
I do not agree with "unlimited speed limits" on a four lane highway. Especially when the entrance and exit ramps are so short as they often are. I live north of the Flensburg area.
Here in California I still see a few 1960s and 70s classic cars on the road but they are rare. Most cars today are look-alike plastic boxes w/no character:(
Hahaha, American classics always look so good on European highways. All that massive chrome and bright paint in a road full of small dull plastic blobs.
That depends on how good you are at driving. I've driven loads of big old American cars on the UK roads and not crashed one.
It didn't bother Americans either. Firstly , because their cars and roads were matched, secondly.. they also knew how to drive them.
I'd rather drive one of these monsters than a boring modern euro car that does all the driving for you and looks as 'everyday' and as boring as dishwater.
Because I've driven a couple of muscle cars and some more modern American metal - and also some V8 engined european cars (like the Sunbeam Tiger and the Daimler SP250) which while being of their time and less than ideal are a joy compared with the horrible firebird and dodge challenger an aussie friend of mine owned. The only really all out muscle car I'd ever want to be in would be the one built by AC within a mile of here...but I dount I'll ever get the chance to sit in a real 427 Cobra
i got a electra 225 1969 black, and it looks sharp even though it caught on fire.... =( (a stupid mecanic had a trucker come in the garage and ended up blowing up the engine somehow....) ill post a vid on it
Unbelievable how many shit a fool can write with only a few words. The 430ci had nothing to do with a nailhead.'till 66 Buick had the 401ci+425ci Nailhead and they was called so because of their small heads/valvecovers.67 Buick introduced the 430ci but only for their fullsize cars. The GS you could buy "only" with the 400ci engine up to 69. 1970 Buick introduced the biggest engine they have ever build and every idiot knows (exspecially you). The 455ci.
And this was the first year a customer could choose the 455ci fullsize engine for the intermediate. And Olds? had beautyful cars and engines too but i think YOU can't distinguish this engines even they would write BUICK and OLDSMOBILE on it in big letters!!!!
The legend of the unbeatable Electra "sleepers" was born in NYC. A silver grey 1969 Buick Electra convertible out raced a red 427 Tunnel Ram Corvette. This took place on the Conduit highway near Kennedy Airport in the late 1970s. Ask Scotty Guadagno or Jim Bell about the Electra legend.
Rebuild engine almost stock.Exceptions: TA bearings,stainless valves,adjustable pushrods,pertronix ignition,stage 1 fuelpump,hot cam (hotter than stage1),SP1 intake,770 Street Avenger
It was a nice engine. Thirsty, but nice. The 455 is pushing over 500 pounds of torque. That is the main reason why it is so fast. They were BEAUTIFULcars.
i believe the 500 pounds of torque... mine did a 180 foot peg leg burnout....and yes...the car was one of the most beautiful cars ive seen...and they have frames underthem like a 3/4 ton truck. in the derby it didnt even buckle..has to be one of the strongest out there

To enter a Highway with a full stop, instead of accellerating and mering into trafik, is highly dangerous and does not make sense.
It causes many dangerous when the drivers do the same thing in my country.
Is Germany the only country with this weird trafic law?
KoldingDenmark 2 years ago
I guess they stoped in order to have equal challange conditions for both cars...
They wanted to check whos better, so they tried to do some race. It's not like the law says to enter the highway with a full stop before.

442 is not even a GM motor, The 225 buick has a 455 as do the olds 442, 4-4-2 stands for 455 motor, 4 speed trans and 2 for dual pipes
I have a 78 olds with a buick 455 from an electra
bigdlb12 3 years ago
I don't mean to correct you but, the 442, as best as I can recall, stood for: 4 barrel carburator, 4 speed transmission, and 2 exhausts pipes.

considering thoses cars are from the 70s and 60s i thought the cold war was still infect so we would not sell american cars to them.
