  • @quicksilverwade

U guys have to understand that creole is a mixing of various cultures. African and Indian mainly, but yu have to count the french and spanish languages and culture that was absorbed in New Orleans also.

So before you say what WE do is offensive, make sure UR not the one offending

  • Indians? What band or tribe of Indians? I will say that this is offensive to any northern plains tribe or southern plains tribe nations.

  • i really cant name that many, but mainly cherokee, navajo, and apache i think. U guys may find it ofensive, but i find it offensive that u are offended by us celebrating our ancestor's heritage. lol. and nobody has yet to say HOW this is offensive?? the costumes are similar to those of the navajo and cherokee, so wat r we doin that wrong???? plz send a personal message explainging.

  • @quicksilverwade what?

  • @quicksilverwade The Tangipahoa and the Houma tribes, that's who. If you don't know or understand how native Americans and Africans united in New Orleans, shut up and learn something. Natives gave runaway slaves shelter and membership into their tribes through intermarrying, etc. This tradition is at least 200 years old.

  • This is very important part of Louisiana Creole culture and American History. This is especially important to me because I have creole lineage from New Orleans. I hope and pray that the Mardi Gras Indians tradition is kept alive.

  • our people represent the American ideal incarnate!

  • We aint goin nowhere, homie!

  • This is an excellent introduction for those people like myself who are just beginning to learn about these groups and their fabulous masking, and their call & response songs. Videos like this are a good way of documenting this rich culture. I like the fact that children are featured in this video.

Here's a question: What is the role of women in these groups-besides as the queen? Do women other than the queen mask? Thanks for posting this video!

-an African American sister from Pennsylvania

  • looka walter and vincent but they left out big queen ree

  • heheh who is howard

  • Well look at Howard!!!!!

  • lol I was bout to say the same thing..."look at Howard" hahaha
