Jay Parrack has to be experienced in person to totally appreciate his great tenor voice. Our PC speakers are really good, but they can't reproduce what we heard live that night. If you haven't been to any of the NQC events, you really should go if you have the chance.
I agree with what all of y'all are saying about Jay being really good, but Ernie Haase and David Phelps are not just two of the best tenors of all time but they are also two of the greatest SINGERS ever
I laughed out loud at the look on Tim's face at 2:39/2:40 when Jay hits the high note Tim is singing his beastly bass note and Jay blows the roof off in his ear so Tim has the look on his face that says : "woah is that note coming from a human being? 0_o" hahaha I love it
Anyone hear the whistle voice at the end of that song? Anyone who doesn't think that tenor is awesome must not understand the strain that goes on a touring singer..the strain is massive. To hit notes like those regularly is not very common..mostly the whistle voice at the end, which is not falsetto. It is a full voice, and falsetto is not, hence the "false"
Thanks for this video. It inspires us to get ready for the challenge of each day by going to the ONE who created it all and passionately stirring each other up to boldly step ahead.
Thanks for your inspiring video. It’s important to get ready by accepting Christ as Savior. Since we do not know when He will come or call, we can stay ready by listening to videos like this one and sharing with others.
@AaronNoldenMusic No. Definitely not falsetto. Falsetto is called "falsetto" because it is a false voice since it lacks medial cord closure. The vocal cords are not closing completely in falsetto and so the sound is breathy because of the extra air escaping through the opening in the cords. He is singing in head voice, which has a much higher range than falsetto if one learns to sing up there. You can hear when a singer flips into falsetto because the sound will be airy and weaker.
I have never heard any man hit such high notes ever. Tears came to my eyes just hearing those notes. This is by far the best 1st tenor ever. Just on pure raw talent. May God bless him in whatever he is doing these days.
Wow Jay is amazing that is some pretty gutsy pitches. What a tenor. THESE GUYS CAN REALLY SING. UNLIKE kesha and kanye and all those other junky artests that just talk in rythym...
@htnash greatest tenor to ever grace a stage.....hardly. Jay is good but, James Blackwood, Rosie Rozell, Doy Ott, he can't hold a candle to any of them.
@Ragman517 budd, James, Was a lead, Doy Ott, was a baritone, And not against u but whoever said ernie haase in in the same category. NEVER!! Jay hasnt been singing full time and he will still blow most of he tenors out there away.
Hello @adge140 I still do not understand what you see is wrong with Gold city moving around on stage. Because the song upbeat with a great message in it. I think there expressing that through words and dance. Can you explain why you still disagree with me?
fantastic gold city has always been great!!!! if any body knows i would like to have the 2000 nqc video I have looked everywhere and can't find it anywhere
@kingward100 The Cathedrals had quite a few change-ups of the course of the years with several different pianists, tenors, and baritones at various points. They actually spun off a number of groups. Greater Vision, Legacy Five, and Ernie Haase and Signature Sound specifically. Kirk Talley left the group and with his brother formed the original Talleys. Mark Trammel and Gerald Wolf created Greater Vision, and now Mark has his own quartet, although that came after his time with Gold City.
A lot of people talk about the Ivan Parker, Brian Free lineup of Gold City and how awesome they were. And they're right. But I have to say that this here was my favorite lineup. They were more versatile, and had a lot more power. The chemistry between the band and vocals was amazing.
Not my kind of music, but I could sit here listening to these guys day in and day out. What phenomenal talent! All around. Standing ovation right here!
Both Jay and Brian do an amazing job with the high notes, there's a good healthy competition there. Ernie Haase is not so much about high notes, although he can hit 'em, but it's about the picture he paints while he's singing. It brings a message to my heart, and I love to listen to SS because of that. They are all wonderful, tho.
i seen jay parrack and brian free doing lookin for a city at my church and brian free threw in the towel he couldnt hang with jay. allstar line-up right there imo,
@vocalpercbass18 i wish i did it was so sudden i didnt have time and honestly i was too amazed to think about it. Parrack was our music minister after he left gold city..well gold city came to do a sing this is when mccune came along, well at the very last song of the night jay ran up on stage and hit one i thought the glass was gonna break, then years later brian free & ass. comes and they did a duel with it and brian free couldn't hang and I wouldn't lie about it bc i like brian too
@MrGmc1989 that's alright, i can understand stuff at concerts goes so fast.. i kinda kick myself in the rear when i hear a group do something fantastic in a song, that they dont usually do, and my camera is off haha but i bet that was something, for sure..
This is definitely my favorite performance of this song. One thing though is that the person running the sound needed to turn up Tim's microphone more...he just wasn't present enough in the mix (you couldn't hear the second "Get up" very well). But I think Jay's high note (I think it's an Ab5) makes up for that flaw. I first thought the camera shaking at 4:06 was because the high note was shaking the room, lol. ;)
Hahahaha... Tim's look of astonishment at 2:44 is absolute golden... he looks over and is just so flabbergasted he stopped singing... of course I would have stopped too.. That's gotta be one of the only men on earth that can get into the 6th octive and sound that good. Jay parrack was truely crafted to be an amzing singer for God
Thank you very very much... I remember watching this with my Grandpa when I was a teenager... He loved watching Jay hit that high note... Can't wait for the day when I get to see my Grandpa again...
Whos the young blonde guy..I love gold city <3
