  • This aired on WBOY the day after Thanksgiving.

  • Ok, it is like impossible to watch this commercial and not smile.

  • 1 dislike? Who's the STOOGE??? It's a good commercial, but according to the commercial, it's not a Christmas star. The message is Happy Holidays. Too bad EnP is afraid to say the word CHRISTMAS.

  • @Wojo8888 What, aren't Jewish people allowed to eat there? No ones afraid to say Christmas, it just pigeonholes one group of people and leaves out a slew of others. There's nothing PC about it, it's just common sense and good etiquette which is what the Holidays should be about, not who's celebration is better. Jeez.

  • 1 dislike? Who's the STOOGE???

  • I never get into the Christmas spirit until i see this commercial...true 80's baby!!! *smiles*

  • I animated this commercial. Thank you!

  • @woodears Great Job. Thank you. Merry Christmas. Was just wondering, what ad agency are/where you with?

  • It's not Christmas until I see this commercial each year. It brings me such warm memories of seeing it as a child.

  • This commercial has been the joy of my Christmas season. It takes me to that childlike place where Christmas takes you and makes me long for those times again.

  • i wonder who the hell disliked this commercial.

  • I watched this when I was a little kid in the mid-90s I think. I'm so glad they still play it.

  • To me, this signifies the official beginning of the Christmas season. Not ashamed to admit that I get a little emotional when I see it for the first time each holiday season.

  • Thank you for making us smile. There isn't an Eat 'n Park within a thousand miles of us.

  • they have had this on since befor i was born i see it every year

  • i always love seeing this on tv :)

  • When I went down to PA with my family to visit my great grandmother, I stopped at this place. Those Smiley Face cookies enchanted my soul.

  • I am 58 and I just bought the old VHS version of Emmet Otter 's Jug Band Christmas. Another beautiful little story .

  • I've always enjoyed this commercial! For some Reason, I Didn't See It This Year & I'm A little upset about that!

  • This has always been one of my favorite commercials ever. It is never really like Christmas unless I see it.

  • this commercial pretty much signifies the Christmas season for me...just like "Emmet Otter's Jug Band Christmas"

  • Call me soft, but I think this a really cute commercial. I swear I watched at least 10 times in a row. I happened to look it up after seeing it during the commercial of the Pens game. Thanks for the putting it on youtube!! Makes me smile and laugh every time :)

  • The only commercial to ever make me smile and cry at the same time; and I know what some of you may be thinking: this guy's a sap! But I'll tell ya, there is no other advert out there that can show the true spirit of Christmas like this one! Plus, I'm a Pittsburgh native, so it's even more meaningful to me...I can remember this played not just on cable TV, but in between re-runs of Mr. Rogers Neighborhood :-) gives ya that Christmas-y feelin' all over again!

  • OK... we may now officially start the holidays!

  • despise the phoney hollidaze shite but this is very cute. :)

  • This is one of my all-time favorite holiday commercials.

  • Every time they start playing this commercial each year my siblings will call me to tell me they saw the eat n park commercial "because I go to school outside of the burgh" and it always makes me so excited for the Christmas season! This commercial truly emphasizes some real Christmas spirit and I love it so much! So many childhood memories!

  • this commercial makes me smile every time i see it. im glad i get to see it on the tv too

  • i'm not from that region. what's "eat 'n park?"

this actually made me a little verklempt. simple but beautiful

  • I beg to differ...I think Eat 'N Park has much better food and service, and their salad bar is great too. But I respect your opinion...and as it is the holiday season, I quote Tim Allen's character in "The Santa Clause" when I say: "Everybody loves Denny's; it's an American Institution!" lol

  • its like a dennys or ihop but centralized in ohio and pennsylvania

  • WOW!!! What memories in that ad!!! I remember having a flip book of that.

  • I lived here in Pittsburgh all my life, I always remember this commercial every year. IIRC, it has been on the air since 1984 when I was in high school.

  • I'd also like to add my thanks - being away from Pittsburgh during the holidays is hard, and I particularly missed this holiday commercial. As so many have said, it's not Christmas 'til you see the Christmas star!

  • Exactly!

  • Thank you so much for putting this up! Being out of Pittsburgh for the first time during Christmas is so hard, but this makes it feel a little better.

  • Thank you SO MUCH for this! Living in Florida now I miss this Christmas ad! You brought a tear and huge smile to my face!

  • this commercial is amazing.

i remember it being my favorite as a little kid.

    thanks for sharing!

  • Thanks for this. I am sending this link to all my out-of-town relatives. This commercial chokes me up and makes me really hungry for a super burger.

  • I cry too. XD Its not christmas unless I see this comcercial!!!

  • Everytime I see this commercial i cry... sounds dumb maybe, but it's true.

  • This is how we knew it was officially the Christmas season... Kudos to Julzsie for the upload!

  • Oh man, does this bring a smile to my face! Every holiday season, people in my house would be on the constant lookout for this commercial to come on. Me, my brother, my sister - or someone else in my family would always scream... "look, there it is, it's on, hurry, get in here!"

    *sigh* Oh, the memories

    Thanks for this clip!

  • It wasn't the Christmas in Pittsburgh untill this ad came on.

  • Born in Pittsburgh, I now live in Minnesota and I miss this at Christmas. Thanks for the most awesome memories!!

  • I love this commercial. Such good kid memories. And that's why I'll never grow up. ;D

  • best christmas commercial ever!

  • My favorite Christmas commercial! Happy Holidays to you too Eat n Park! 980 out of 980. :)

  • I've been watching this commercial for 20ish years now. My mom told me that when I would hear it no matter where i was (even if I was in my walker) I'd run to watch it. I'll be 21 next month and to this day I have to stop what I'm doing to watch it.

  • THE BEST CHRISTMAS COMMERCIAL EVER MADE!.. I didn't see it on tv last year, but it was on this year I saw it last week!!and it made my day! I'm happy that it's back! The best commercial ever!

  • Guys, this is still on TV!! I've probably seen it 3 or 4 times this month, December 2007! This commercial is always fantastic, Pittsburgh is great...

Now if only someone could get the "Century 3, Cheverolet, Lebanon Church Road Pittsburgh (Minutes from the mall!)" jingle, then my life would be complete...

  • This award winning commercial is so simple, and yet everyone loves it.

  • thank you so much for posting this - i'm away from pa and I miss this every single year.

  • This is how I know it is Christmas time!

  • omg! amazing! thans so much for uploading.

this was my favorite as a child &they never play it anymore.

  • Awesome...a classic.

  • still cute after all these years, i do belive it did originally said merry xmas at the orignal airing, and just changed it sometime later, still a great commerical

  • There was a Christmas commercial that I am trying to find, does anyone know what it is? It shows a wall, I think its a green wall, with a hook thing on it. Somebody tries to pull the hook off, and when they do, they tear the wallpaper and get really mad. I think it's a commercial for hooks that don't tear your wallpaper. If anyone knows which commercial it is, please send me a private message or comment on my channel. It will be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

  • The product this would be for is Command Adhesive hooks. I think I remember that commercial

  • Only problem is that it isn't on TV anymore and I can't find it on the web.

  • The best comercial ever! It wasn't Christmas for my friends and I in PA until that commercial came on. I haven't seen it in years. I agree with the other comment, it makes me tear up at the memories. Thanks for posting it!

  • Didn't it originally say Christmas, and then recently change it to "Holidays"?

  • Probably, a lot of commercials have changed the phrase "Merry Christmas" to "Happy Holidays" to correspond with people who aren't Christian.

  • Of course it's all become politically correct now. Why would a non-Christian be offended at someone saying "merry Christmas" to them? It's all of those crazy athiests looking to eliminate God from this country.

  • Or, more likely, it's retailers wanting to be as inclusive as possible so as to get the most number of clients. Exclude a group, exclude their business. Why does everyone think this is about religion???

  • No, it's political correctness out of fear of offending athiests. It's retailers being EXCLUSIVE, excluding Christians by calling it an ambiguous "holiday". Back in the 80s and 90s, the phraes "Merry Christmas" was used, but stuff like Hannukah stuff was still sold.

If I went to another country and demanded that they de-emphasize one of their holidays, should they? Absolutely not. So why should we?

  • First of all, athiests would have no use for Hanukkah stuff. Second, I doubt a retailer would be worried about offending athiests. Third, if all the Christians were who were so offended by the use of "Happy Holidays" would not shop at those reailers, then Wal Mart would be out of business. Not happening. I have no idea how going to another country fits into any of this. However, I do wish you a Merry Christmas. And a Happy 2008.

  • I think you missed the point entirely. The point is that ambiguation doesn't help anyone. Using an ambiguous "Happy Holidays" and changing all Christmas reference to Holiday does nothing but piss off Christians. And actually, this DID hurt Wal-Mart's sales. That's why you see some stores having a few "Merry Christmas" banners.

The point about the other country is that like it or not, Christians are the majority in Ameirca.

  • Also, thank you for wishing me a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, I wish you the same, even though we disagree on this issue here.

  • Part two.....damn 500 charachter limit.

And believe it or not, retailers have been kowtowing to athiests a lot lately. That's why until recently, you still saw Merry Christmas, even if they did sell things for Hannukah, Rammadan, and other holidays.

Selling stuff for other religions increases business, not taking "Christmas" out of everything.

  • I now live in Florida, but I grew up in Pittsburgh. This commercial brings back too many childhood memories to put into words. Total classic. Thanks for sharing!

  • I love this commercial! It brings back so many good memories! =)

  • I worked for Ketchum Advertising when we produced this commercial. The creative mind behind this commercial was a young art director named Craig Otto. Craig was still working in Pittsburgh last I heard at another agency.

  • When did this commercial first come out?

  • If memory serves me correctly it must have been in the late 70's - I joined the agency in 1973 and we won the account around 1977 or 1978. The commercial was produced in October/November of the 1st year we had the account. Ketchum was on a roll at that time. We had gained International Harvestor, Authur Treacher's Fish and Chips, Eat'n Park, and several other large local and national accounts.

  • That's amazing -- everyone I've talked to would place this commercial in the late '60s to early '70s -- I would swear I watched it as a kid -- '73 at the latest. Funny how our memory gets things wrong.

  • I'm just getting to post this now, but this is my FAVORITE Christmas commercial!! I remember seeing it when It first came out in 1984-86. I was in grade school, and this is simply the best. I look forward to this commercial every year!!! I hope they keep showing it on TV!! Thanks for posting it here!

  • I love this commercial! I don't think that they play this one anymore, though. Over the Christmas Season I usually look forward to it, and I didn't notice it this year.

  • Greatest Christmas commerical ever. EVER!

  • This always makes me tear up! I guess I'm mushy that way. Since I moved from Pittsburgh I never get to see it anymore...thanks for posting!

  • I look for this commercial every year! A few years ago, they seemed to stop playing it. I wonder if all those emails I sent them had anything to do with it getting posted on their site and back on the air =D Like others said, it isn't the holidays until this commercial plays.
