@Cordicron Thanks for letting me know! I posted this video 5 years ago and I've been amazed at the response to it. I'll definitely be watching the story on it tomorrow.
1 dislike? Who's the STOOGE??? It's a good commercial, but according to the commercial, it's not a Christmas star. The message is Happy Holidays. Too bad EnP is afraid to say the word CHRISTMAS.
@Wojo8888 What, aren't Jewish people allowed to eat there? No ones afraid to say Christmas, it just pigeonholes one group of people and leaves out a slew of others. There's nothing PC about it, it's just common sense and good etiquette which is what the Holidays should be about, not who's celebration is better. Jeez.
This commercial has been the joy of my Christmas season. It takes me to that childlike place where Christmas takes you and makes me long for those times again.
To me, this signifies the official beginning of the Christmas season. Not ashamed to admit that I get a little emotional when I see it for the first time each holiday season.
I agree with most of the posts, this is the best commercial. Also, like most, I'm a 'burgh native and moved away many years ago. Watching this commercial reminds me of home.
Call me soft, but I think this a really cute commercial. I swear I watched at least 10 times in a row. I happened to look it up after seeing it during the commercial of the Pens game. Thanks for the putting it on youtube!! Makes me smile and laugh every time :)
The only commercial to ever make me smile and cry at the same time; and I know what some of you may be thinking: this guy's a sap! But I'll tell ya, there is no other advert out there that can show the true spirit of Christmas like this one! Plus, I'm a Pittsburgh native, so it's even more meaningful to me...I can remember this played not just on cable TV, but in between re-runs of Mr. Rogers Neighborhood :-) gives ya that Christmas-y feelin' all over again!
Every time they start playing this commercial each year my siblings will call me to tell me they saw the eat n park commercial "because I go to school outside of the burgh" and it always makes me so excited for the Christmas season! This commercial truly emphasizes some real Christmas spirit and I love it so much! So many childhood memories!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Eat N Park is pretty much a Pennsylvania localized restaurant chain. If I had to directly compare it to something, I'd say it's like Denny's, only... Not as good.
I beg to differ...I think Eat 'N Park has much better food and service, and their salad bar is great too. But I respect your opinion...and as it is the holiday season, I quote Tim Allen's character in "The Santa Clause" when I say: "Everybody loves Denny's; it's an American Institution!" lol
I lived here in Pittsburgh all my life, I always remember this commercial every year. IIRC, it has been on the air since 1984 when I was in high school.
woww...thank you for posting this. its my favorite thing about christmas ever and ive loved it since i was a wee boy. thanks for putting me in the christmas mood.
Ah, now it can officially feel like Christmas! I also no longer live in the wonderful city of PITTSBURGH so seeing this makes me remember what a wonderful place HOME really is.
I'd also like to add my thanks - being away from Pittsburgh during the holidays is hard, and I particularly missed this holiday commercial. As so many have said, it's not Christmas 'til you see the Christmas star!
Thank you so much for putting this up! Being out of Pittsburgh for the first time during Christmas is so hard, but this makes it feel a little better.
Oh man, does this bring a smile to my face! Every holiday season, people in my house would be on the constant lookout for this commercial to come on. Me, my brother, my sister - or someone else in my family would always scream... "look, there it is, it's on, hurry, get in here!"
Great clip. Like lots of others I grew up with this commercial. Still makes me feel good when I see it ... watching Pens games on NHL center ice because I now live in Minnesota.
I've been watching this commercial for 20ish years now. My mom told me that when I would hear it no matter where i was (even if I was in my walker) I'd run to watch it. I'll be 21 next month and to this day I have to stop what I'm doing to watch it.
THE BEST CHRISTMAS COMMERCIAL EVER MADE!.. I didn't see it on tv last year, but it was on this year I saw it last week!!and it made my day! I'm happy that it's back! The best commercial ever!
Guys, this is still on TV!! I've probably seen it 3 or 4 times this month, December 2007! This commercial is always fantastic, Pittsburgh is great...
Now if only someone could get the "Century 3, Cheverolet, Lebanon Church Road Pittsburgh (Minutes from the mall!)" jingle, then my life would be complete...
still cute after all these years, i do belive it did originally said merry xmas at the orignal airing, and just changed it sometime later, still a great commerical
There was a Christmas commercial that I am trying to find, does anyone know what it is? It shows a wall, I think its a green wall, with a hook thing on it. Somebody tries to pull the hook off, and when they do, they tear the wallpaper and get really mad. I think it's a commercial for hooks that don't tear your wallpaper. If anyone knows which commercial it is, please send me a private message or comment on my channel. It will be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
The best comercial ever! It wasn't Christmas for my friends and I in PA until that commercial came on. I haven't seen it in years. I agree with the other comment, it makes me tear up at the memories. Thanks for posting it!
Of course it's all become politically correct now. Why would a non-Christian be offended at someone saying "merry Christmas" to them? It's all of those crazy athiests looking to eliminate God from this country.
Or, more likely, it's retailers wanting to be as inclusive as possible so as to get the most number of clients. Exclude a group, exclude their business. Why does everyone think this is about religion???
No, it's political correctness out of fear of offending athiests. It's retailers being EXCLUSIVE, excluding Christians by calling it an ambiguous "holiday". Back in the 80s and 90s, the phraes "Merry Christmas" was used, but stuff like Hannukah stuff was still sold.
If I went to another country and demanded that they de-emphasize one of their holidays, should they? Absolutely not. So why should we?
First of all, athiests would have no use for Hanukkah stuff. Second, I doubt a retailer would be worried about offending athiests. Third, if all the Christians were who were so offended by the use of "Happy Holidays" would not shop at those reailers, then Wal Mart would be out of business. Not happening. I have no idea how going to another country fits into any of this. However, I do wish you a Merry Christmas. And a Happy 2008.
I think you missed the point entirely. The point is that ambiguation doesn't help anyone. Using an ambiguous "Happy Holidays" and changing all Christmas reference to Holiday does nothing but piss off Christians. And actually, this DID hurt Wal-Mart's sales. That's why you see some stores having a few "Merry Christmas" banners.
The point about the other country is that like it or not, Christians are the majority in Ameirca.
And believe it or not, retailers have been kowtowing to athiests a lot lately. That's why until recently, you still saw Merry Christmas, even if they did sell things for Hannukah, Rammadan, and other holidays.
Selling stuff for other religions increases business, not taking "Christmas" out of everything.
I now live in Florida, but I grew up in Pittsburgh. This commercial brings back too many childhood memories to put into words. Total classic. Thanks for sharing!
I worked for Ketchum Advertising when we produced this commercial. The creative mind behind this commercial was a young art director named Craig Otto. Craig was still working in Pittsburgh last I heard at another agency.
If memory serves me correctly it must have been in the late 70's - I joined the agency in 1973 and we won the account around 1977 or 1978. The commercial was produced in October/November of the 1st year we had the account. Ketchum was on a roll at that time. We had gained International Harvestor, Authur Treacher's Fish and Chips, Eat'n Park, and several other large local and national accounts.
That's amazing -- everyone I've talked to would place this commercial in the late '60s to early '70s -- I would swear I watched it as a kid -- '73 at the latest. Funny how our memory gets things wrong.
I'm just getting to post this now, but this is my FAVORITE Christmas commercial!! I remember seeing it when It first came out in 1984-86. I was in grade school, and this is simply the best.
