I dont think Edward is ashame of of being an accountant, he was over ambitious and lacks the basic skills that is expected of an accountant. Many accountants are business professionals, having an accounting skills is an advantage but Edward overlook this aspect

it is amazing to see how the others pick on Edward that easily in the boardroom. It is true that it is everyone for himself in the boardroom but it is also true that the other guys saw him as too easy a scapegoat. Besides, Edward was not stalwart in his defensive tactics. Gavin did not put himself forward. He just questioned if Ed was the right guy and Vincent basically forced Gavin into the frame by asking him if he wanted to do it. Gavin couldnt exactly say no and reluctantly said ok. He was forced into it and didnt really want to put himself forward.

Since this process is not for them to be hired for a job, Lord Sugar shouldn't say "You're fired!" isn't it? Instead he should say something like "You're out!" But perhaps it's to uphold the catch phrase of The Apprentice, even if it doesn't make a lot of sense in this case.
