@anakinfan8 Probably not. But I was four years old when this was on. And I loved it when he'd change into the hulk. The incredible hulk is my favorite superhero because of this fondly remembered TV show.
This is how they should have did the Hulk movies.. like the TV series this transformation and the Hulk look a lot better then the stupid computer Hulk they used. a insult to the comics and TV series.
Trivia to fans Banner's TV wife the one who died in the car accident was played by Lara Parker who played Angelique on Dark Shadows.
its stil scary as hell 1000% more scary than the new hulk absoulutly dark and scary Man the hulk was like a horror movie still is.Classic.Timeless.My friend just took a picture with the hulk in Philly Lou Ferrigno now isnt that cool.Man did they really let me down with the new hulk i was so dissapointed dont compare to this.
scary? Not at all. My son, when he was 3, came out of his room and asked, "Who's that dad?": I said thats the hulk. Since then, divorced, ect., He always ask for the hulk when we're together. lol. Even when we had pizza up in Jackson one time. The morphing dvd cover of season one, he brought it in and it went everywhere with us. lol
This scared the shit out of me as a 6 year old when it debuted. I remember my father letting me watch it because my mother wasn't home that night. I was hiding in the next room every transformation scene shivering with terror. Looking back I concur that this is still creepier than most movies they put out now as horror/science fiction flicks.
@Gossage54 Because old movies are scary and if someone did this nowadays they would make it Rated-R, and a horror film. How stupid. Yet they say, "No it's just a classic."
@darkspaz0 , yes it came out in the late 1970's. The Pilot episodes were a pair of TV movies on November 4, 1977 and November 28, 1977 then the series ran from March 10, 1978 – June 2, 1982
I'm glad I'm not the only one who was frightened witless by The Incredible Hulk - especially the transformation!! I was born in 75 so saw it as a young boy! As soon as his eyes turned green, I literally had to cover my eyes!
This is how the Hulk Movies should have been like... when Banner turns to the Hulk.. with 2 actors one for Banner , one for the Hulk. just like the TV Series.
The Hulk Movies were stupid Hate they made the Hulk computerized. or some stupid thing. they ruined it... hell if a TV series can get it right they should have done it right with the movies. movies have a bigger budget then TV series.
@Gossage54 And if you want to see how hot she was and just how daring some 60s TV could be, watch the Star Trek episode she was in. She so close to naked in her little cave girl outfit, that it shows one heck of a body.
That would have caused another type of "Hulk-Out" growth for most men. Let's hope that part wasn't green however. Most likely you wouldn't be able to make the deal with something green poking out.
In the old TV show, the original pilot was great because it was all about Banner's rage and trying to figure out how to control or subdue the Hulk. Those were the best eps -- the ones where Banner kept trying to either cure himself or control the Hulk, not the corny ones that were kind of substitutes for bad "Fugitive" eps. Still, one of my faves was when the Hulk runs amok in New York after trashing a yellow cab!
Is like the werewolf transformation(painful transformation) but without the fullmoon. - Its fuel by anger, fear & other emotional stress. I got scared when I saw it first time but later got used to it bcoz its cool to let go your stress & beat something & u won't remember when change back to human.
But if I see it too many times, wonder if Banner can use the Hulk's power without going through transformation because it takes time to get the stress level high & transform :-) But I loved it - Sweet
I was very scared of his transformation when I was a kid... when my mother wanted me to stop watching TV or do something and I would refused, she used to say to me "look the Hulk is on TV" and I would be scared as shit!! we still laugh of that when we remember nowadays lol!
Yeah. I wonder if that is either Bill or Lou there. It's really hard to tell with the makeup. It kinda look like that could be someone else than the 2 I mention.
@ Retroman48 Don't feel bad about you being scared of this hulk out I was scared of the Demi-hulk the first hulk out on the pilot episode and I was scared of Del Frye's Hulk.

@venospid that because bill bixly was a truth actor who gave a 110% in his premforeance not the shake n, bank young robert pattson"twilight" kind of actor
Bill Bixby and Lou Ferringno were wonderful in this show. You could really believe that David Banner turned into the Hulk and that they were not two separate actors. There were other good episodes of this series, like "The First" were David discovered an evil Hulk once existed, and "The Snare", in which a psychopath takes him to his island so that he can hunt David Banner instead of animals. I also liked 747 where the Hulk has to land an airplane.
I disagree. Retroman48 said he was five years old at the time he watched this. I was 11 when I first saw it on CBS. It didn't bother me as I was a preteen, but I could see where it could bother a five year old who isn't as mature yet.

I think in this episode he marries the lady who screams " no"(she's a psy) but she dies at the end of episode. The end of episode she dies in the arms of the Hulk while its raining on them, somewhat touching.
I do think this is probably one of the better transformation scenes from the series. later on they didn't show him as often during mid transformation. The lighting on him has much to do with the creepy effect as well.
@ retroman-- I was half your age and watching this and I had nightmares of this transformed bruce banner chasing me in the park across the street from me. This and that wonder woman episode where the ressurect hitler and the Fembot fighting Jamie summers is probably the creepiest things in hell for a 0-6 year old indeed! But I love them all and wish some channe could play them again these days.
Yea, there was going to be another hulk movie, but bill got ill and passed away. Because if I remember correctly, his body was able to cure itself very rapidly, even from as far he fell, according to the movie his body would have healed before he died
Check out Season 4 episodes "Free Fall" (David survived without a parachute), and "Deep Shock" (Hulkie fell from a platform into boxes, as he did in the movie.)
I used to be so scared of this show when I was a little girl lol. The Hulk frightened me more than anything else back then, I used to run away and hide under my bed when it would come on the TV lol. I'm glad now I'm 25 I can watch it and enjoy it since I was too scared to watch it back then.
Was is it with people like her, just standing there watching him transform? Once I saw his eyes and heard him roar I would have been out of there so fast he wouldn't have had time to turn green.
Always liked the way they did the effects in the hulk series. One effect they did allot of was take a razor blade and run it across the shirts. Then Ferrigno, or his stunt double Manuel Parry, would just start flexing. Did a great job. lol
I feel your pain, I was a similar age and it scared the shit out of me! This is terrifying for a little kid, on prime time TV when hes used to watching Knight rider and the A-team!
bill bixby will never be forgotten as poor david banner...hes still very mutch alive coz of all the hulk fans,,,,on a lighter note id love to see someone hulk out like this if it was real i have all the hulk tv series on dvd all 5 sesons a 3 spin off films and the 2 newer 1ns love the shirt ripping gamma charged muscule
Actually this is a scene from the first episode of season two. It was a two part episode titled 'Married' in which David moved to Hawaii and got married to a cancer patient who was a doctor trying to cure him. Damn good episode.
sounds like you are talking about the episode titled, "The first"
David was never cured on the tv series..
he was always able to change..
in the episode you are talking about he finds a town where he finds there was another hulk some 30 years prior. to make this short he finds the assistant that worked with this other scientist that turned the assistant into a hulk but then cured him.. david is after the cure and in the process of trying to figure out how to cure himself teaches the
in that episode the scientist that knew the cure was killed by his assistant after the assistant found out the other scientist had cured hi(he says it in the episode"he would be alive today if he hadn't got that needle in to me" there was enough of the cure in powder form for 3 more cure injections the first gets smashed earlier in the episode.the 2nd david administers (in conjunction with the x-ray) but the other guy hulks out and smashes the 3rd
It wasn't implied that Del killed Dr. Clive. The janitor at the library said, "Some people went to talk to Clive. Well, Clive fell..or something...died a couple of days later.." Dell was trying to justify staying "strong" (the creature). "I'd have helped him. They wouldn't have stood a chance."
there is a lot more to this episode (including some deleted scenes that doesn't even exsist on the dvd.. but aired on tv and I have on vhs tape. specifically one scene as the other hulk is changing as he changed his snap buttons pop open on his shirt.. this scene is basically cut from the episode as of right now (although they left a quick scene of it on on the run up to part two of the episode.)
I get a bit scared until now, with 38 yr old, auauauauau wnhen i see hulk transformation, its like i was besides him! I dont know if i had a neiborhood like lou ferrigno I moved home imediatelly!
This series is more about Banner than the Hulk. The hulk is the embodiment of rage that Banner felt for not being "man" enough to save his wife. The Hulk is revenge personified. Absolutely brilliant writing and acting. Even the haunting theme made it to the big screen. I remember waiting until the series' credits would roll to hear that last, low, depressing piano key. A masterpiece of television.
There's no reason to fly off the handle because CGI is being used, but I will agree that'll he'll probably remain as the best Bruce Banner for a long time. Ed Norton came close. Both did a fantastic job because they were actually able to make you feel & care for the character. Eric Bana couldn't do that for me.
BTW, while I love the Hulk being CGI for the movies, I think we should get a new TV series with a real person portraying the Hulk again. In this day & age, it'd be cool to see.
Married is such a great two parter. It's on the pilot dvd. Very very cool.
If it doesn't have Bill Bixby in it, I refuse to watch it. Norton or whomever was in the last movie....will never pass David Bruce Banner off the was Bill did. Also...Bill didn't need dipshit CGI to get the job done, a huge plus there. You had to utilized a little emotion there.
Shame really, if it were nowadays they may have gone for a full on feature film with Bixby as opposed to the tv movie versions, shame as Bill was a great Banner and sadly missed!
Bill is THE ONLY David Banner. I miss that great man in a major way. I am working on the series now, got all 5 Bixby/Ferrigno classic films.
I used to watch Goondnight Beantown and My Favorite Martian...also the Courtship of Eddies Father. That man was very talented person. I miss Nick at Night...when it was worth watching. I loved seeing these shows.
Bill, wherever you are...this 31yr old misses you and the work that cancer took from you. I love you man.
I saw The Hulk this weekend. They just can't get it right. Ed Norton isn't able to capture Banner's inner turmoil unlike Bill Bixby. The transformation is downplayed, which I think is a big flaw. The original Hulk movie to start the TV series was the best and scariest.
In the first ever hulk out in the 70's...no body knew what it was going to be like. That's what made it a joy for some of us to watch weekly. Some even had the monochrome tv sets so we had that added plus there. We had to think of the scenes and use the imagination with it.
I disagree, Ed Norton is amazing. The fault lies not in him but in the script/story itself. Norton tried to make changes and add depth, a lot of his changes were left on the floor.
It was better than the first film, but just not much on the "light bulb" Hulk..I know they want him as visually impressive as the comics, but the CGI just doesn't look "real". They did a lot of "movie magic" to make Lou look more impressive in the series..why not do the same..even the comics have some basis in reality..7 feet tall, 1000 pounds..(ok, maybe not the weight!), but still..there's tall bodybuilders...or hire a wrestler...6'5", 6'6", do some movie magic and presto!
what you saw was lou's personality shine through the hulk creature..
a computer image lacks that.. plus as you said it doesn't look real.. what they should have done (and what I had expected originally of them to do) was use computer morph tech to help with the transformations and stuck with the body builder for hulk and separate actor for david / bruce
No, actually, you watch yours, smartass seanoue. You see, some people speak the truth, from their heart. Others, like you, condemn them for it. You are the one who needs to watch your mouth.

Did a great job. lol

This was made when great acting plus a little makeup was worth millions.
Now, too much makeup and bad acting + cgi = worthless crap.
Sad.

sounds like you are talking about the episode titled, "The first"
David was never cured on the tv series..
he was always able to change..
in the episode you are talking about he finds a town where he finds there was another hulk some 30 years prior. to make this short he finds the assistant that worked with this other scientist that turned the assistant into a hulk but then cured him.. david is after the cure and in the process of trying to figure out how to cure himself teaches the

assistant how to turn himself back in to a hulk
in that episode the scientist that knew the cure was killed by his assistant after the assistant found out the other scientist had cured hi(he says it in the episode"he would be alive today if he hadn't got that needle in to me" there was enough of the cure in powder form for 3 more cure injections the first gets smashed earlier in the episode.the 2nd david administers (in conjunction with the x-ray) but the other guy hulks out and smashes the 3rd

DIESEL0759 2 years ago
before david has a chance to use it for himself..
there is a lot more to this episode (including some deleted scenes that doesn't even exsist on the dvd.. but aired on tv and I have on vhs tape. specifically one scene as the other hulk is changing as he changed his snap buttons pop open on his shirt.. this scene is basically cut from the episode as of right now (although they left a quick scene of it on on the run up to part two of the episode.)

I know that Lou played the Hulk, he's also voiced the Hulk in the 1996 cartoon & in the new movie.
JMoney002 3 years ago
There's no reason to fly off the handle because CGI is being used, but I will agree that'll he'll probably remain as the best Bruce Banner for a long time. Ed Norton came close. Both did a fantastic job because they were actually able to make you feel & care for the character. Eric Bana couldn't do that for me.
BTW, while I love the Hulk being CGI for the movies, I think we should get a new TV series with a real person portraying the Hulk again. In this day & age, it'd be cool to see.
JMoney002 3 years ago 3
Married is such a great two parter. It's on the pilot dvd. Very very cool.
If it doesn't have Bill Bixby in it, I refuse to watch it. Norton or whomever was in the last movie....will never pass David Bruce Banner off the was Bill did. Also...Bill didn't need dipshit CGI to get the job done, a huge plus there. You had to utilized a little emotion there.
Rest in Peace Bill....
Dayofthedead1976 3 years ago
Exactly! Though, Lou Ferrigno was the one playing the Hulk. Otherwise you're right!
Rest in Peace Bill...

Shame really, if it were nowadays they may have gone for a full on feature film with Bixby as opposed to the tv movie versions, shame as Bill was a great Banner and sadly missed!
imperialpod 3 years ago

The original Hulk movie to start the TV series was the best and scariest.
sign84 3 years ago 4
I totally agree with you on that.
bubbasmiley 3 years ago
In the first ever hulk out in the 70's...no body knew what it was going to be like. That's what made it a joy for some of us to watch weekly. Some even had the monochrome tv sets so we had that added plus there. We had to think of the scenes and use the imagination with it.
Dayofthedead1976 3 years ago
I disagree, Ed Norton is amazing. The fault lies not in him but in the script/story itself. Norton tried to make changes and add depth, a lot of his changes were left on the floor.
HarlanLovestone 2 years ago
It was better than the first film, but just not much on the "light bulb" Hulk..I know they want him as visually impressive as the comics, but the CGI just doesn't look "real". They did a lot of "movie magic" to make Lou look more impressive in the series..why not do the same..even the comics have some basis in reality..7 feet tall, 1000 pounds..(ok, maybe not the weight!), but still..there's tall bodybuilders...or hire a wrestler...6'5", 6'6", do some movie magic and presto!
DIESEL0759 2 years ago
ya thats what made the newer movies suck..
you can't get acting out of a computer cartoon..
cgi takes away from the acting..
what you saw was lou's personality shine through the hulk creature..
a computer image lacks that.. plus as you said it doesn't look real.. what they should have done (and what I had expected originally of them to do) was use computer morph tech to help with the transformations and stuck with the body builder for hulk and separate actor for david / bruce
