If I recall well, the episode you're talking about it's the 3rd of the first season: "How to Recognise Different Types of Trees From Quite a Long Way Away". In that episode, MPs often cut to pictures of a larch and a voice keep saying "number one: the larch" as the image come to the screen.

  • WOW. Michael Palin is unbearably hot...ohh God it's a terrible thought knowing I'll never be able to hit that.

  • Have to wonder if sweeny todd was an influence on this sketch. The old penny dreadful story had been around for quite some time though it was made into a play in '73 and later the tony award winning musical in '79. There was more than one film made about the demon barber of fleet street though. I just wonder if it was quite literally a conscious influence here or if it was something subconscious in the British zeitgeist the pythons pulled in here.

  • funny! i love MP :)

  • It's in the first season -- "How to Recognize Different Types of Trees From Quite A Long Way Away" (and yes, that's the title).

  • @Colloqiual One of the best episodes of all the series

  • In the very first episode of the first season, they cut to a slide of a larch tree a lot, and occasionally a horse-chestnut. The skit with Eric Idle being Mr. Walters is "Interesting People", but i can't remember which episode it's from.
