Hey if your going to post a remixed song, make sure its the original remix. Speeding up a masterpiece by Holy Ghost! was an awful idea. Leave the art intact please.
Frosty you might want to look up DFA records and other bands that are their label before you make claim Holy Gohst! is of a corporate entity. DFA started with the help of James Murphey of LCD Soudsytem, is the label Holy Ghost! is on. DFA does it's own recording, it's own publishing, and marketing. I don't think you can get more indie than that, but then again i'm not as blessed with infinite insight, and endless wisdom you are so what do I know. The other acts on DFA are top notch as well!
Thank you for finally recognizing my omnipotence. It is greatly appreciated....Oh and thanks for the LCD Soundsystem suggestion. Saw them a few years back, great act.
@diabolicalsnowman I was being sarcastic! That's great that you saw LCD soundsystem, since the front man James Murphy is one of the biggest promoters of Holy Ghost!, but I am sure you knew all of this already, being the the self suggested omnipotence.
There is a fine line and believe me it is a slippery slope. I see no problem with an established act covers someone else (Smashing Pumpkins - Landslide) or a talented artist takes a song in a completely different direction (Johnny Cash - Hurt or Pet Shop Boys - Always On My Mind.)
@diabolicalsnowman of course you don't see a problem with, as i didn't think you would. you are or were a member of a band that played localy and did nothing but cover tunes, and you each made $100 for playing someone elses creative process. But you know what, there's nothing wrong with that, could anyone at the bar or club do that? No. so there you go, just don't be a hypocrite. look at my playlists dood, they are hardly corporate sell outs. i'd even bet you haven't heard of half of em.
The early years of rap and hip hop mixed like crazy, but you never saw Public Enemy or NWA blatantly stealing beats - at least till He Got Game. Sounds/Samples were used to enhance the sound not copy it. That being said, I wanted to be sick when I hear Kid Rock butcher Sweet Home Alabama and Werewolves of London in a matter of minutes. It is the appeal to the masses corporate sell out shit like that that prevents music from progressing - And that is whatever flavour(s) you listen to.
@diabolicalsnowman ahhhhhhhhhh.....i've listened to countless hours of rap, and you couldn't be more wrong. In the late 80s early 90s De la soul was being sued by Stealy Dan for sampling their song. I mean come on Ice Ice baby, by Vanilla Ice. Even 3rd base mention how he took a beat and looped he looped it. This is were you and I differ, I would never listen to kid rock! He sucks ass, and only sing b/c he's an ego maniac that loves attention! I know you think you know me, but your wrong!
@dzitrog I never suggested you like Kid Rock and Vanilla Ice was not rap. He was a joke. I was referring to the actual artists that helped define the genre. VI was a lame attempt at bringing suburban white kids to buy the LP's that Run DMC and the Beastie Boys could not win over.
@frostythesnowman Kid Rock butcher Sweet Home Alabama and Werewolves of London in a matter of minutes. It is the appeal to the masses corporate sell out shit like that that prevents music from progressing - And that is whatever flavour(s) you listen to. ummmmmm.....yea I think you did. VI was produced by Suge Knight, one of the biggest rap producers to date, so what would you consider it? That's his genre a lame attempt at trying to win over white surbaban kids.
Don't you think there is a problem with music when 'artists' spend more time using others material than creating their own? It's be true that every poet is a thief, but that should be disguised. A catchy beat based on someone elses masterpiece does not equate talent and maybe I am a snob for appreciating artists. The reason why people don't listen to full releases and focus on tracks is because the record companies live in a world of instant gratification and don't bother to foster real talent.
@diabolicalsnowman obviously you have me confused with someone who supports corporate rock and mainstream dance music, when that's the vibe I catch from you, and even though I still enjoy MGMT they are hardly indie anymore, and have become a bit more commercial, but everyone has to eat. As long as the work doesn't suffer i don't give a shit. you sound like a washed up jadded rocker who's been burnt by the record labels, and for that i'm sorry for you.
LMAO...That is hilarious. I'm not going to pontificate to you about who I am and who I am not when it comes to music. I can tell you I am not bound to a specific decade or genre.
@frostythesnowman You won't pontificate, b/c you are nobody, and I could give a shit even if you were, your still a lame! You are stuck in the 90s and your favorite band is one of the most mainstream and commercially successful bands since Foreigner, so go bitch to someone else! Oh yea, and almost all rap songs blatantly sample other ppls work, it's just that it's old R&B so most white people don't recognize it.
You clain that they are ripping "off" true talent by remixing the song, and are only doing it for personal gain. I ask you this since you are such an authority on music that any of us can only aspire to be, when a rock band does a cover of a popular song from another rock band, are they doing the same thing? I get that you don't like Holy Ghost!, I really do, and that's fine by me, I really don't care, but don't let your mouth start talking shit about things in which you know nothing about.
I don't do the felation thing but thank you for your suggestion. I could give a damn about Fred Durst. Billy Corgan is however a epic legend for being a singer, songwriter and true artist, these dudes are an epic fail. I'm sorry you feel the need to appreciate the sheeple who can't hack it without stealing someone else's talent for their own gain. It's turdburglars like you that have killed the music industry with homogenized one day corporate crap.
@diabolicalsnowman corprorate? Once again your ignorance is shining bright. They are on an independant label and work hard at playing shows to become known. They aren't stealing anything, they are remixing, but it's clear you don't understand what that is. They are actually paying homage to pheonix, as they have toured with them in the past, stunad.
If that is paying homage they should have stayed at home. I more than understand what remixing is. I also understand what a lack of creativity and talent are. That is usually classified by what you hear on dance stations and Top 40 radio. Then again modern rock with a few exceptions is sucking it hard too. Sorry to hate on your dudes, but this is nothing new that hasn't been done before. On that note, I'll turn on some Arcade Fire - A group with originality and artistic integrity.
@diabolicalsnowman This is a pointless discussion to the say the lease anyway. Half the people that navigate to this page do so in the quest for more holy ghost! tracks. Certainly you would't be changing any of our minds from your meager self appointed observations. I will say this one more time, they are NOT corporate! I can give a shit if you like them, but get your facts straight. And yes, you are stuck in the 90s, otherwise you wouldn't feel the need to bring it up.
Narrow minded is the last thing I am. My musical tastes span 7 decades and dozens of genres. I own 1000's of CD's and LP's along with over 100 gigs of digital tracks. Go felate Justin Bieber.
@diabolicalsnowman Big deal! Your not disproving your ignorance to me, nor are you impressing anyone. Why don't you fellate Billy Corgan while Fred Durst and other mainstream rockers fondle your snowballs. lmao
@diabolicalsnowman Wow what a sick c*nt. How come someone comes to have a suss at some new music and we have these stuck in the past idiot winging that this isn't real music. Both of the members of Holy Ghost are practising musicians (drums and piano) for other bands and have you ever had a stab at producing? not that easy.. the only thing digital about holy ghost is the fact they record straight into protooools you fool
@ciscoknights you are so right. some neophytes stuck in the past can't appreciate any kind of music that isn't just drums and guitars. It's a shame for them actually, that they've narrowed their taste in music. I saw Holy Ghost! live and they rocked the house! Even met 2 of them, very cool cats! frosty the snowman obviously let's common consenseus dictate what he finds to be credible music. I don't think DFA records would of signed Holy Ghost! if they hadn't any talent.
Common consenseus? Listen jabroni, don't tell me what I listen to and in what decade I am in. I believe in timeless music and have seen many electronic acts and have a deep love rooted for electronic music. From MGMT to the Pet Shop Boys, to Depeche Mode to Moby to Fatboy Slim to Kraftwerk to Ministry to NIN. Talent is a very subjective word and there is a reason why the music industry is a piece of shit nowadays. People copy, remix and spend very little time creating new sounds.TBC
...new lyrics and artistic integrity has been thrown out the window. Why has there not been a true music revolution since the 1990's? Simply because A&R guys from labels rely on image, formulas and do not grow talent. I'm not stuck in a decade or a sound. And yeah, I listen to a lot of music from a lot of decades. Before you judge me, because I think music like this is setting back integrity learn a bit where I am coming from asshat.
@diabolicalsnowman Holy Ghost! does make their own music, and it's very good at that! Do your research before you deem yourself ignorant and narrow minded!
erm, how about the damned original?!
