  • Actually , on this side of the ocean (Canada) CBC showed the very first episode.. must have been right when it was made.. I clearly recall seeing it at about the same time that the Beatles did Ed Sullivan. i think CBC's airing was because of Doctor Who being a joint Canada/UK production at first...

However, i think that they dropped it soon after..

  • I love this song.

  • check how different the tardis looks

  • 0:58-1:02 lol 69

  • I love the old and the new and I'm only young thank you very much. I personally do think though that Matt and Karen are the best pairing the show has done, not necessarily my favourite Doctor, but I think they are the best pair.

    However I love all :)

  • ok i am only 12 years old so i wasnt alive when the old series was running but even thougt i have watched all the "modern" series my faveroute seasons/series are and always will be the old ones and my favroute dictor is tom baker even after being a tennant fan for a few years :)

  • the third doctor is my favourite, love his ways of figuring out the reasons of why stuff is happening

  • awesome, but what episode didi the first clip for "2007" come from?

  • This is a good montage but I wish people would realise that if you are using a music track, you NEVER show clips of people talking. It becomes a silent movie. Watch ANY professional trailer made with a music track and you NEVER see anyone talking silently. And there is a hell of a lot in this.

  • My Dad watched this on PBS since I was BORN. So ever since I can physically remember I've been watching the classic series. I was so exited when I heard in 2005 that they were gonna make a new series and so far I'm impressed. Best show to ever be on television!!!

  • I've watched the show from the first episode in '63 [and it's repeat the following week!] and must complement you on your selection of clips from the classic series. Great upload :)

  • I have those ones with william hartnell

  • i perfer watching the old series to the new series and i am classified as the "younger generation' most of the people my age started in 2005 then started watching the old ones my first episode i ever saw was Sylvester McCoy -Rememberance of the Daleks i think that (aside from the effects) that the old series is ALOT better

  • @BowTiesareCool12 Im with you in that regard, better budget doesn't realy make a better program.

  • My advice to Doctor Who Fans: Ignore other fans. There will be people out there who don't like stories you like (I love ToaTL), and who don't like aspects of the series you like. Ignore them. Eventually hatred will turn to nostalgia and they'll love the things you love. For example, now a lot of fans love Colin Baker's coat, Ainley's campness and The Twin Dillemma's... unpredictableness.

  • Classic Who and New Who are really only different on a superficial level, I think. If you look past the things that you're disdainful of (romance, for example, in New Who, or the slower pacing in Classic Who), you can see that at its heart it's still just Who. The spirit's there no matter what era you look at.

  • @Eureka2814 I agree completely!

  • Dude its an awesome vid but seriously, 'real' doctor who fans?

I'm a new generation Who fan and I actulally prefer the 1980's eps. I find the fact that you consider us not proper fans.

  • I love it!!!!

  • OMEGA311888, you met John Pertwee, how cool as that? :-) Don't like the song, but the vid is 1st Class. I'm Irish, but should keep the music British.....Still cool though.

  • what was that at 2:46 ?

    Did they meet each other/themselves?

  • @PoseidonJ1 Yes, in "The 5 Doctors." For a while, it was traditional for the show to do "Multiple doctor" specials at anniversaries for the show, and that's what you saw there.

In fact, there are a lot of people gunning for an "Eleven Doctors" special for the 50th anniversary in a few years. Though that might be difficult, since several actors have passed away, and the rest have obviously aged. Still, it'd be cool.

  • @Perinlyn They could use the same idea from "Time Crash" (where 10 and 5 meet) where the paradox causes an age factor, or death for that matter...

  • Well Done lovely tribute

  • Doctor Who is awsome enough, but combined with the BEAUTIFUL voice of Kenny Rogers, and I am overwhelmed!

  • This video was awesome!! I LOVE seeing all of the doctors!

  • OK saying "real" fans is justing insulting the newer generation who wern't alive when the series began. And you can bet a million dollars that if you found me a website where I can watch all the older eps i would.

  • hahaha, your choice of Troughton pics are hilarious!

I admit- I used to be solely new Who, but then I started looking up old Doctors and old episodes. Now I'm in love with 2 and Jamie! I can't wait to see the rest of the series!

  • I was introduced to D W in '89, just as the series was ending across the Pond, but BOTH my local PBS stations were running it at the time, but not the same episodes. So, on one, I'd have a Tom Baker, while the other was running A John Pertwee. The first episode I ever saw was"Logopolis", so when the closing Credits said "The Doctor: Tom Baker" and "The Doctor:Peter Davison" I was SO confused.

  • i grew up with the show and i love this! I couldn't have made a better tribute if I tried. Although the song was sappy it was appropriate. thanks!!!! :)

  • Such a pity there isn't a 'Love' button! :D x

  • 47 years now

  • @Jam14451 - not quite. 46 until November :)

  • year :) you just know they are gonna do something big for the 50th annaversary :)

  • @Beechmiester90 I think so as well. Probably a special , maybe a previous incarnation will return to help the current doctor battle the master, daleks, cybermen and other villains (dr) who Knows ?

  • y did david have 2 go? WHY!?!?!? He is sexy hot man.

    nice vid. nice song.

  • ..................

  • lol when he falls out of the TARDIS

  • poor old colin :(, best doctor of them all :D

  • Very good. Smarmy? A little... but retrospectives almost always are. I liked most of the images you chose to represent each year. Would love to see you do an update after the new season this year... ;)

  • reminds me of a song from fame lol

  • I am a crazy Doctor Who fan, and I love all the Doctors. I also love the spinoffs. I have a huge DW collection. It's actually more of a shrine, but still. Thank you for this video, I love it!!!

  • the 4th doc was da doctor the longest! i wish david tennent would stay longer :(......

  • Corny, Just as corny as the show. BUT, this is part of the charm, very well done, 5/5

  • Started watching with my mum in the early 80s, I was about 5 or 6. We got it on WQLN up here in Ontario. I remember being terrified by the program as a child. Peter Davison is my Doctor, who I became familiar with through watching All Creatures Great and Small.

  • Why are they replacing david tennant with mat smith im not asking why david is leaving i know that but why mat smith

  • they need some one who looks crazy, is young, and is named smith. Christopher only lasted for 1 seson... But he was good. No one can live up to what david did though... Should bring some old guy...

  • Steven Moffat, who is taking over as lead writer, said they were originally looking for someone who looked old but felt young. When Matt Smith auditioned for the role, Moffat was blown away, and said that he was a young actor who felt old, and believed he could bring something incredible to the character of the Doctor. That's why.

  • Yeah steven is also the dad of David tennants gf

    !

He has wrote for dr who before but russle did it the most! i loved his stories

  • Peter davison is the dad of David tennants girlfriend, not steven moffat. Its just that she has a name similar to moffat(cant remember it), not relation.

  • GREAT video! very well done!!

  • It would be better if Youtube didn't screw up the framerate on the video somehow...

  • still, its nice to see someone else who appreciates the ENTIRE series, not just tennants. personally i started with tom baker. i actually MET jon pertwee. and im enjoying the ones now. i even like the torchwood and sarah jane spinoffs. so once again KUDOS to u mate!!

  • I not only appreciate the entire series, I prefer the classic to the new... and I've only been a fan since 2005. I saw some episodes on PBS when I was a kid but I didn't remember much..

  • who ever says thyat david tennant was a bad doctor deserves to be hanged!!!

    he was defenatly the best!!!

and this new doctor i hape lives up to his standards which im sure he will

i still find it funny that people got scared of dr who still if ure fans i love u!

  • better than patric troughton? better than john partwee?

no thanks, patric and john are my favorites

  • Who are they? I've heard of Patrick Troughton and Jon Pertwee, but not them... ;)

  • so next time i meet u ure hanged!

but thats ure opinion and u wont force it on me

  • Im new to the series, Christopher Eccolson is my first doctor

  • 0:49 he's always running lol

  • These types of old things make me feel how people must miss those days everyday. Even though i wasn't there at the time it still makes me cry when i think that how much those times are being missed by people who were there...

As far in past i think more depressed i get, looking at how the world has changed in a good way and in a bad way

(My life started in 1993 and is contuning)

  • Jist for some people's satisfaction I am not Depressed all the time... It's just some of those moments

  • Love how the lyrics go with the video: At 2:36 Adric dying to the lyrics of "When everything went wrong" to 2:41 and the four Doctors with the lyrics "Together we were strong".

Five stars. Great video and a great series. Hope it goes on forever.

  • I've been a Who fan since the late 1980's. I also used to watch them on PBS (We used to get PBS Detroit up here in Saskatchewan). Tom Baker was my Doctor. He still is, although David Tennant is a real close 2nd.

Now my daughters are enraptured with Doctor Who. They both love David Tennant. he is their Doctor.

  • Doctor Who scared me to death as a child. I love it now,

    Peter Davison is my doctor

  • I started watching Dr Who on PBS in 1983. Tom Bake was the Doctor. My five year son loved it with me. My little girl was just a year old. She would hear the theme music and leave whatever she was playing with to watch the tv. They are both Who fans now and talk fondly of the 'old' Who.

  • spechless..

    thank you.

  • I like soppy.

I've been a loyal DW fan for... one and a half years. Ok, not very impressive, but what I've missed in time I've made up for with sheer enthusiasm.

  • good video lolz

  • I'm to young (since I'm not 40+ years old) and I live on the other side of the ocean. I may have missed out on Doctor Who for those 43 years, but I love it now. And I'm trying to find and watch all those old episodes I missed out on.

  • I am a big fan of BTVS but, WTF dude?? What has that got to do with anything?

  • That's interesting because that's what RTD sortof based the new series of Doctor Who on... maybe that's why I still prefer the classic series since I never really liked Buffy...

  • Its 45 years now

  • I know, but look at the posting date...

  • I know i haven't watched it since 1963, but i've seen a lot of doctor who and its the best show ever, it deserves all the praise it gets, its fantastic.

  • To think, out of Tom Baker's 7 years as the Doctor, there were only 2 Dalek episodes.

  • You don't have to see Doctor Who the first time round to be a proper fan! I'm 13 and I have seen nearly every episode there is because I saw my first episode aged 3 (The seeds of doom) and I think I'm a proper fan! I love Doctor Who! But Classic is way better than new.

  • im eleven and i'm sure i'm a proper doctor who fan. i rather the classic series to the new one,and patrick troughton is my favourite doctor. just because i'm unfornunate to not have been around when it was originally broadcast,it doesn't mean i'm not a proper who fan.

  • 1982 ='{ poor Adric. im 12 and my favews doctors are sylvester and davidson =D

  • I loved adric too ;( That was sad when he left.

  • Davison not Davidson

  • 1984: "finally, cleavage!"

  • good timing at 3:45 too.

  • good timing at 2:40. "togheter we were strong"

  • good vid. thank you TheBIGBlueBox

  • I love the new series. But don't you miss the BBC quarry?

    Bring back Tom Baker!! *Cackles*

  • Well being born in 1987 it's kind hard for me to have grown up with the classic series.

But I love Doctor Who and have seen several Classic series stories. So please don't assume that people only love the new series just cause they're younger.

  • So beautifully done....Thank you !

  • very nice vid. it's very sweet and very well done. Thanks for this. :)

I've seen much of them all... and I think Tennant is the best thus far because he's a kind of compilation of the most loved ones. He grew up with them...

  • Nice one.

  • I remember the good Doctor scaring the life out of me as a child. I grew up with Tom Baker and Peter Davison as the Doctor, and I still feel they were the best.

Seems most people say their "first doctor" was their favourite.

  • Psychoanalysing the Daleks is nothing new! If bisexuality makes you uncomfortable as an adult and doesn't make the kids uncomfortable then good, it's doing it's job! But i sort of agree about the romance, they took it too far and now it's often the fans' main focus (boring). And it meant Martha had such a brief run when they could have milked her character heaps more (although i did love Donna).

  • wth??..the romance part makes the show a billion times better..i wouldn't watch it if all they did were talk about aliens all the time (now that's boring =.=)

well..i guess it all depends on your personal opinion. i think we all at least agree that this show is awesome ^_^

  • Erm...no, the Doctor should be asexual - it should be a hard-boiled science fiction show, that's the main reason most of us became fans all those years back. If I wanted romance & sex i'd watch Hollyoaks or porn, how is the alien side of things boring? Surely that's the most interesting thing in the universe! ;-)

  • i think thats harsh cause i only started watching doctor who cause i love david tennant & it was a program he was in so i started now i'm a total fan and i am re-watching all the episodes from 2005 & torchwood i will get round to watching the older ones but the new ones are more relevent to now the whole bad wolf & the darkness is coming but i do want to watch the other ones & really you can't help it if you don't like the old ones cause we r in a place of more tech i find some older films borin

  • I understand that the younger generation prefers lightning fast pacing and CG effects over good dialogue and clever storylines...

When watching the old stuff, try to look past the cheap sets and bad special effects. If you do, you might find some fantastic Doctor Who..

Try "City of Death" or "Pyramids of Mars"... if you don't like those then I don't know what to say...

  • i will keep that in mind just gotta watch all seris 1 and probably it all again then will watch the old stuff.

  • I'm a younger person, and after seeing some of the some, well, most, of the older ones, I've realised how terrible many of the modern ones are.

David Tennant: THE worst Doctor. My favourites are William Hartnell and Colin Baker, I can't decide which one's better.

  • Mate, you cannot say that David Tennant is the worst Doctor. He's the best one. William Hartnell? A bit crusty, no? Tom Baker is a second. Peter Davis third, and I actually though Mgann could have been awesome.

  • Colin Baker is the worst Doctor. He should never have been cast. Diastrous!

  • dont blame colin. the writers for his and mccoys stories... well they stories sucked at times.

  • Where did you hear that the younger generation prefer fact pacing and CG effects over good dialogue and clever storylines? The new series has all of them.

  • Excuse me...I am one of the 'younger generation' and I loooooove old Doctor Who. Try not to patronise us, mate. I know some people might, but most of us love old Doctor Who despite cheap sets etc.

Good job on the vid, btw. Keep it up!

  • Heck, I love the old ones because of the cheap sets. It's so old school. :D

  • @haynesy2008 Same as me! :D I'm 16 and I lovee the Classic series :D

  • Sorry I'm not a "real" fan, but i wasn't alive then, i've only seen the episodes from 2005 on...

I also think it is funny how the doctor went from an old man to David Tennant, who is sooo hot!

  • Well the older Doctors weren't so hot... obviously these days that's a requirement for the role. DT is fine... but Tom Baker is better..

  • We are all entitled to our own opinion. See i've never watched the old Doctor Who, so i've never seen them act, but of the new Doctor who, I liked both Christopher Ecceleston and DT. It truly is an amazing series and i'm sure the old DW was amazing.

  • Thought I would share this with you since your such a Tom Baker fan. Rumor has it that the Master is going to play a big role in one or some of the specials next year. The BBC are in negotations with John Simm and in a bizzare turn of events...Tom Baker??? Now I don't know if they want Tom Baker to play the Master or reprise his role as the Doctor or if its in regard to some other role. However...he has stated in interviews that he would love to be brought back to play the Master.

  • That rumor is likely false... Tom Baker isn't coming back as the Master... and personally, I wouldn't want him to play the Master..

  • You can laugh at the effects and the costumes and the technical stuff, but there were quite a few classic stories that stand the test of time.... especially since later sci-fi copied ideas from Doctor Who.

  • brilliant vid

    brought back memories well done

  • Nice vid,not that keen on the music but some nice clips put together well.

  • I really don't think it's fare to say the only "real" DW fans are the ones who grew up with the original series. Not all of us were fortunate enough to have been born back then. And speaking as an American fan it's nearly impossible for me to find ANY of the old stuff. And what's that mean for the kids who are growing up watching it now? Are they not "real" fans because they were born a couple of decades to late??

  • That's not what I meant. I mean those who are fans of the entire series regardless of age. But yes, this video is a tribute to those fans who grew up with the series (that doesn't include me, unless you count PBS in the 80s). I do think however that "new series only" fans are not real fans, especially those who won't give the classic stories a chance...

  • I love Doctor Who, but unfortunatly, I am too young 2 have "grown up" with it... so really I AM a "real" dw fan! DT rox! He is SO the best Doctor so far!! (Yes, i do mean ALL the doctors from 1963 2 present) LOL!

  • Have you seen a good amount of classic stories? IMO Tom Baker beats DT hands down...

  • I would disagree with that last part of your statement...that Tom Baker beats DT hands down. They both are outstanding actors. It's like comparing a pizza to a nice big juicy burger....one is not neccessarily any better than the other...different yes, but ultimately both satisfying!

  • Nicely put! I totally agree :)

  • Thanks :o)

  • Hi Big Blue Box, I knew Dr. Who wasn't new but I had no idea it's been around for that long!! Here in the states (on our public broadcasting channel) were seeing the episodes with Rose and the doctor so I guess there 3 years old?? Hopefully we'll get to see new ones as well. Though I'm kind of bummed I was hoping the Doctor and Rose would be together--ah I guess it's the burden of being a time lord....thanks for making the video!

  • carterscu said: "ere in the states (on our public broadcasting channel) were seeing the episodes with Rose and the doctor so I guess there 3 years old?? Hopefully we'll get to see new ones as well"

SciFi Channel is showing the ones from this year. In fact, they're only about 3 episodes behind the BBC's episodes.

  • Thanks for the info!

  • Yeah and really all you have to do is look on Youtube and you can see clips and even eps of the old Who just like you can the New.

  • I was 4yrs old when Doctor Who began. It fast became a Saturday evening addiction. Though, as a girl, I could never talk about it to my school mates because I was afraid I'd get called a tom boy.

  • I never have grown up with it. I only been growing up with it for about... 3 years?!

I would love to see the old series to see what it is like tho. It would be amazing! <3

I love DT. Hes so funny in DW! :)

    Ashley :) :)

  • You should have put "Dimensions In Time" from 1993 in it.

  • i diddent grow up watching it, hence being a teenager, but watched the "old" series before 2005 doctor who, so i did know what it was beofre :-p

  • you cannot not bet the classic series particulary pertwee and hartnal

  • great tribute :-)

  • The new series has some great episodes (Empty Child/Doctor Dances comes to mind) but my favorite will always be the second Doctor. You just can't top that.

  • They'll never stop the Doctor

  • U should do something for doctor whos 45th anniversary

  • Nice...

  • i think im going to cry

  • Wonderful, wonderful tribute. The picture quality was a bit low, but other than that it was enjoyable seeing the Doctor in all the different situations and decades he's been in, and the song was appropriate both for the series' long running status and the Doctor being a time traveller.

  • even though i love David Tennent as The Doctor i can't help but wonder who is going to be the next. Wouldn't it be weird if The Doctor became a woman..wonder if they could do that....?

  • The doctor character has allways been a man. I dont think the bbc is going to cahnge that. But it would be a good idea for a spoof.

  • it's been done. (The Curse of Fatal Death)

  • oh yer i remember watchin that on you tube lol!

Doctor: Emma ive got ethonic beam locators.

Emma: No doctor there real brestes

Doctor: No i think i can see the on switch.

  • I think it's sad that 90's kids grew up without Doctor Who. Bummer, man... but now we got David Tennant (squeee!)

  • brilliant tribute. the song is not my taste, but i can put something else on while i watch

  • This is a brilliant tribute. I am very impressed.

  • What is the music

  • Lovely little tribute. Can we pretend that Catherine Tate doesn't exist though? ;)

  • would rather pretend Mel didn't exist

  • Ditto. -shudders- She screams like a banshee.

  • Ha, Tate fans putting their thumbs down to that comment. Middle aged and middle class.

Am I bovvered. Oh hahahahahahahahahahahaha :)

  • Very nicely done video, and a good song for it. Bravo.

  • Love this video it really is perfect. This video makes me proud to be a doctor who fan. Thank You And Well Done!

  • What was the episode or special that had the 6th doctor with the 2nd doctor tied up?

  • "The Two Doctors" from 1985...

  • Thank you..

  • Don't remind me....

  • Don't you like her?!?

  • Nope... I don't like the whole "Doctor in love with his companion" thing...

  • and most of the other fans didn't either. Too me the doctor "loved" his companions but the love was a father or uncle to his child or niece/nephew.

  • Yer i agree plus sometimes billy piper way over acts it.

  • Great with a capital G

  • that was soooooooooo sweet thats a good one well done

  • Cool video! Nice idea :D

  • Oh, that was a really nice vid :)

  • Is that clip of the Doctor Jamie and Zoe from The war games episode 11 oe Episode 1

  • episode 9 I believe... second from last... War Games had 10 eps..

  • Brilliant vid. Great weepy music. Fantastic.

  • great vid!!

    5**

  • sappy music

  • I warned you the music was sappy...
