After watching Super Dimension Fortress Macross (original Japanese format), it made R.T. look rediculously lame. If you loved R.T. as a kid, I'd suggest you watch the movie "Macross: D.Y.R.L."

@pinoi78 Carl Macek died 04.17.2010. He was a pretty decent man who did much to popularize japanese animation in US (and retroactively, in many western countries like France where they bought the US Robotech version of Macross).
I liked his work and liked Robotech. Even if I admit it was a pretty weird Frankenstein, still it worked. It was a desperate, epic tale. The only thing I regret is the original songs which happen to be much better than the english ones. The Robotech opening is awesome.
Here in Chile we always feel proud of the fact that Ran from the 3 generation is Chilean ... according to a map they show he comes from Atacama Desert

I have only one vivid memory of this show and that was, that the one girl turned out to be an alien she had green blood. I can't remember the name of the character but that she could always sense when the aliens were near.
This was a great cartoon show but not only for it's cool jetfighters that changed into giant fighting robot suits. This show had a really great story with seriuosness at a level you want find on any other show. There were politics, love triangles, wars that hapened afar and some really neat wars went on there on that space carrier( which also changed into this metropolitian size robot). There were also wins as well as tough looses. The singing went well with the dramatic moments as well.
I watched this first in 2002 when it was re-broadcasted here in Mexico, and inmediately fel in love with the story, the characters and those brutal mech designs.
I ate, drank and slept Robotech when I first saw it. It was amazing. I taped all the episodes on my VCR, bought all the toys... even saved as much as I could to import to the movie "Do you remember our love" from Japan (over $100 for the movie!). I have the DVDs now and still love the story.
I can't tell you how many of my friends I managed to get hooked on this show - one of whom watched the entire series with me over the course of a single weekend!

I find it hilarious that large group of English speaking Macross fans hate Robotech. How quickly they forget that without Robotech, Macross would be virtually unknown outside of Asia. or to put it another way: if Robotech hadn't come out when it did, then there would have been no Macross outside of Asia.
and yes I am aware of the downside of this. (The legal dispute over who owns the international rights to the Macross series) But the point is, English SDFM fan's owe so much to Robotech.
(damn word limit rule) I'm not saying they have to like it, I'm just pointing out a simple fact.
And lets be honest, At least Harmony gold had the decency to bring over Macross in a respectable manner. If anyone else had brought Macross over and put it on TV, then they would have pulled a 4kids and butchered it. Remember, this was the 80's, and that kind of butchery was standard practice. With Robotech, while some edits were made, the content and story was not dumbed down as whole.
Its just as grim and gritty as its Japanese counter part, and if you don't believe that then maybe you need to remember how many people died in the first season alone (among other things to numerous to name here, damn the word limit rule).
Again, I'm not saying that Macross fans have to like Robotech or vice-versa, but it would probably behoove them to take a closer look at the objects of their Ire. That's all I'm saying.

um that's actually not true. Voltron (AKA Golion) came out in English in 1984, a full year before Robotech's initial broadcast. So technically we have Voltron to thank for giant robot anime in the USA. At least as far as I know.

Homotech is everything but original. Have you seen Homotech : The Shadow Crapnicles ? It was like watching a Star Trek episode. Robocrap ripped Macross now Homotech is ripping Star Trek. welp to be honest....its cuz HG brought it to the world back in the 80's and even if was being a stupid piece of crap (so you say) a lot more people know Robotech than Macross...and even though name Robotech I called it Macross...I knew where it was from and loved it still and now a total fan of Macross....bitch all you want but everything has its roots no matter how bad you argue and fight about it

Don't bother with that Homotech idiot called limasite85, 009FGH. It's clear to me that limasite85 has an inferiorty complex regarding Macross. He can't stand the fact that Macross is doing well (Macross Frontier is success by the way) and superior to Homotech at every level. Macross has story, characters, animation, intelligence, originality, etc. All the things Homotech does not have. Homotech : The Shadow Crapnicles proves my point.

Homotech is everything but original. Have you seen Homotech : The Shadow Crapnicles ? It was like watching a Star Trek episode. Robocrap ripped Macross now Homotech is ripping Star Trek. Just to tell you how the guys at Harmony Gay are dealing poorly with Robocrap, a dying franchise going nowhere. At the other end, Macross has a future. Macross Frontier has been a success. An animated movie is on its way proving how Macross is successful.
