during winter the ferns turn yellow when 99%percent of the ferns are dead you cut them off usually the 2nd week of June and mound up then the spears start popping through from mid Agust onwards

When the ferns have died you cut them of usualy the second week of june in Australia . Let them go back to fern . The second year cut the fern of again mound the asparagus up you can give it a light cut for about 2 weeks . The 3rd year remove the fern when it is dead mound up when the spears are about Six to 10 inches out of the ground cut them of under the ground harvest up until the first week of december then let them go back to fern until the next year

I was told to fold over and DO NOT CUT this year. Do the same next year. Then the 3rd year, cut, eat and enjoy.

I have a plant that has been planted for only 1 year. The ferns are about 2 feet high. I know it takes 3 years to eat them but should I cut off the ferns? Or do i just let them grow and fold over?
