  • Jeezzzz... Now the problem is you wont be able to shoot for another week because your wrist will hurt so much. .45-70 is big on a rifle... Well not that big but still

  • thats a big "derringer" lol its about the size of a small glock, but with 45-70 it prolly needs to be at least that big

  • Jesus, that thing's a zip gun with a handle. Why not just hold the cartridge in your fist and hit it with a hammer? What's next, a 4-bore over .50BMG derringer? Or maybe 2-bore over 20mm?

    OUCH!

  • @Snoep76239 your demonstration of your extensive knowledge of guns is overwhelmed by my laughing at your utter ignorance.

  • Recoil looks manageable

  • Does anyone know if they make both Barrels 45/70. Because I would love to buy one

  • @THETRUECRASHMONKEY

They do, but it's a custom order item. Also, the case rims are so big that you would have to file off part of the lip to fit both cartridges in at the same time (that's what AD told me).

You would be better served with a .45-70/.44 mag or .357 mag combination. Or go for the .45-70/.410+.45 colt of you live in a free state.

  • Doe Any One Know???

Do they make them with both Barrels 45/70's???

  • Great as a flamethrower or eardrum-perforator, not so much as a handgun.

  • Chuck norris derringer....

  • any idea what the ballistics are out of such a short barrel?

  • @pinhead61187

According to the brass fetcher website (300gr hot-cor load from the derringer):

Single shot fired from 6" distance. Bullet impacted at unknown velocity, penetrated to 26.3" and expanded to 0.614" average diameter. Bullet recovered at 287.0gr weight.

26.3" penetration into gelatin is VERY impressive out of a derringer. Most common pistol rounds would penetrate 10-15" especially out of that short a barrel.

Worst case you'd still light your target on fire :D

  • Damn that kicks like a stallion!!! Hate to get hit by that. Can somebody say ouch?!!!!

  • robber: haha little wimp... can stop me.

    house owner: BACK OFF!

robber: i ant' scared of u boi!

    house ouner: *fires gun* BOOM!!!!

    robber: AHH FUCK!

  • i think he crapped himself before he shot

  • 45-70 and 45 long colt that is fucking huge for such a tiny gun

  • I can't wrap my head around that lol

A fucking .45-70 derringer? .45-70 in a full sized rifle is still quite a handful, but in a derringer? Wow.

  • Damn, that was louder than I was expecting!

  • .45-70 Derringer: Because that guy across the table is cheating at cards, and you want him split in half.

  • Number 1. You should not cock the hammer until you are ready to pull the trigger and hit whatever you're aiming at.

Number 2. (Regardless if you only put one bullet in) Do you really think it's a good idea to violently flail the gun around after you shoot it, so that when you shoot with other people you can not only show them that you are afraid of it, but that you also enjoy putting them in danger?

Unfortunately, shooting accidents prove valid points... learn from them, don't cause them.

  • Shiat! I'm still waiting for the 454 version of this noisy cricket ; P

  • @Wolvmarine

The chamber pressure is too high- it would blow up (more than 1/3 higher than .45-70). Same reason they'll never make a .500 S&W version (I asked!).

They do make a .45 winchester magnum chambering if .44 magnum doesn't do it for you.

  • Very nice! I wish they still made them. Hold on to it.

  • Remind me not to stand directly behind you at the range.

  • In case a grizzly bear sneaks up on you at your tasteful masquerade ball, hiding easily away in a tux pocket, you can protect yourself and your date with this lovely piece.

  • haha wtf

  • nice how he chambers the round with the thing nearly pointing at his dumb ass head.

  • even the dog in the background is ashamed of you.

  • Seems kind of strange that when you close the chamber, the gun is pointing at your face, loaded with a massive .45-70 cartridge...

  • @XR4turbo thought the same thing, but thats how all derringers load

  • @XR4turbo You are supposed to half-cock it with the safety on so the firing pins are not sticking out and hit the primers. If its still pointed at your face when you close it, I think you are holding it backwards.

  • @XR4turbo really wasnt pointing at his face..

  • I would love to own this gun but I want both Barrels to be the 45/70

  • @CREWGOG289,NOT EVERYBODY GETS TO OWN THEM DUMB ASS,check the laws in other states,I live in California and I CAN'T OWN A 45/410 which is one that I want to get so now I'm trying for the 45/70 upper and lower

  • @THETRUECRASHMONKEY

You can custom order (or retro-fit a Model 1) to any combo you like. If I want one in CA, that's what I'd have to do.

They also sold the Alaskan M-4 in a .45-70/.45 colt ONLY version, but it's rare. Pure .45 colt works better because of no big freebore liek the ones overbored to accept .410.

  • I shot one of those and my hand ached for the rest of the day.

  • @theAXL35784 why would you say 9mm is to much, larger cal pistols like 40 and 45 acp often aren't enough to stop a threat quickly, so why would 9mm be to much?

  • @Bumblesski I've never heard anyone say 9mm is too much either. That's my minimum for CCW since compacts are offered in that caliber and it's best for guns that size. 45acp is a great close up and medium range round but because of it's size and slow muzzle speed it doesn't have much velocity at long range. Pistols aren't intended for long range so that's OK. Maybe he's talking too much recoil? In which case I suggest 40s&w. It's basically a faster 9mm with snappy recoil. I prefer 45 over 40.

  • @theAXL35784 why would you say 9mm is to much, larger cal pistols like 40 and 45 acp often aren't enough to stop a threat quickly, so why would 9mm be to much?

  • "take that noisy shit elsewhere before i bite a ma-fuka when i get loose." ---your dog.

  • this gun is so cute!!^^

  • lol that is so crazy, what will they invent next, I love America cause we get to own stuff like that. lol

  • assholllllllll

  • The look on your face after you fired and looked at the camera guy was this " Dude!! Did you bring me an extra pair of underwear?!?!?

  • This will keep those kids off my lawn!!!!

  • It's very powerful , but it's useless.

Shooting a so powerful cartridge with a so small pistol . . you'll break your own hands ! ! !

  • @TheAXL35784 Care to step in front of it and call it useless? :) But seriously, it would work for self defense in most situations.

  • @aquaphone In case of self defense a 9mm is enough , quite too much! Any caliber is good for self defense ( obviously in case of emergency), even a .22 LR is good.

  • Well atleast somebody had the balls to post a video shooting the Beast.

  • That would be useful in a bear encounter, its a pitty only one of the barrels is for 45-70, the other one is chambered in .45 and .410 shotgun

  • Rifle round in a derringer....What stupid idea will someone come up with next? That round is a kicker in the magnum research BFR platform, and that gun with a 7.5" barrel is like 5 lbs or more. It looks like fun to shoot, but i cant see putting a historical round like the 45-70 to a practical use in this derringer.

  • @Bigman031893 Its marketed as a survival weapon. Sure, lots of the power from the 45-70 is wasted with such a short barrel. But it still had some grunt in it and especially in places where there are bears and such it could be quite useful. Considering only one of the barrels takes the 45-70 round. The other one is .45 Colt/.410.

If it were a pure 45-70 gun it would be a piece of crap though.

  • Completely useless, but certainly looks fun to shoot at least once. Reminds me of my old .45-70 Handi-Rifle - It really serves no purpose, but anything inside 75 yards is dead meat.

  • that pistol is pointless, just like punching out the rib in a judge. dont get me wrong i love my judge but why would you ever run a round that big through a gun that cant use it

  • @streetraider08 what do you mean by punching out the rib on a judge? I'm unfamiliar? Thank you!

  • To deanage69: Respectfully, go back to their site & look up the Model 4 Alaskan Survival Model - NOT the Model 4 Survival Model. They are different. They don't produce the M-4 Alaskan Survival Model that I shot in the video anymore. I think they might specially make it though it would be an expensive endeavor... Any way - if you look up pricing you'll see the M-4 Alaskan Survival (M4AK457ST) you will see it does in fact exsist & it is what you see in my video. Thank you for viewing!

  • @davegunman Correct. I verified it . I live in Texas, not too far from American Standard Derringer.

LOL, I was not sure what would happen when you fired it.

  • @davegunman You're absolutely correct when you say that American Derringer still offers derringers in 45-70/.410/.45 Colt.

btw .. I've shot that gun in 45-70 with the small original grips and it kinda smarts .. lol.

    Enjoy.

  • The American Derringer M4 survival model is chambered *only* in 45 Colt. Look it up on their website. amderringer dawt com

  • @deanage69 I left a comment for you, please check it out.

  • @deanage69 its the old discontinued alaskan survival derringer.

  • @deanage69 search...alaskan survival 45/70 on youtube..you will get a good close up view of this gun...it does exist.

  • why?

  • Ions75 I'm pretty sure this gun is just a toy, I doubt many people take its tacticool abilities very seriously

  • Looks like he lost 4 inches off of his legs from the recoil.

  • Damnation son. I think you just found the brown note....

  • I NEED one. where did you get it?

  • "now what u goin' do wit dem der tiny pistol boi? u dun think that goin' stop me frum a' rapin' ya boi? he he he he he....OH FUCK!!!!!"

  • @Toro76er LmfAoo XD

  • @Toro76er lmao best comment I've read in a while

  • Someone just earned a new man card, platinum edtition

  • @Hydra22 someone has big balls like that AC/DC song.....

  • Your dog didn't even flinch.

  • Power to YOU davegunman; it takes some balls to fire such a big round from such a small gun. Thumbs up!

  • Wow, if that ever goes off in your pocket you'll be singing a different tune.

  • so, did he hit the target?

  • I have shot one of these before. It is absolutely retarded and the only thing it causes is pain to the shooter. There is no point in it. Just get a .44 mag and your gonna do the same damage with less recoil and more accuracy.

  • DID HE SHOT 1 OR DID HE SHOT 2 ? DO YOU FEEL LUCKY , PUNK ??

  • I think that I'd pass on that caliber.

  • DAMN!!!!!!!!!!!! I got to get one.

  • i honestly think that derringers are too small for such large rounds. but thats just me.

  • @romance59

That's the fun thing about them. It's the derringer Clint Eastwood would carry.

  • why are we cocking hammers before we raise and aim the gun????

  • Little-Big Gun.

  • @ECSD4M2E0 there isnt really any other way to load it. but the hammer has to be cocked in order for you to fire it.

  • That thing is wicked!

  • beautiful husky

  • HELL this kid got more balls than a bunch of people that use shoot 45-70 ammo. That is secret hold it like a man lol

  • love the way you kept it pointed in a safe direnection while loading.......next time do better!

  • heh. if the 325 gr slug dont get em, I guess the fireball will =D.

  • cmon man is not that big of a kick lol nice gun and vid

  • i paused it right at the flash, its fricking as big as he is. ouch

  • @sunnyacres23 It was hard, but I did as well. That's one hell of a fireball coming out of that lil' thing.

  • WOW...what a flash too. Dang.

  • That's a pretty large frame for a "Derringer"...my BFR .45-70 weighs over 4 pounds and has a pretty stout kick. I'm guessing that the loading used in the vid was a reduced loading. I would recommend using Aliant 2400 powder as it's fast burning and will combust as completely as possible in such a short barrel...using IMR 3031, you'll blow out a lot of unburnt powder and the mass of the ejecta will reaaallllyy add to felt recoil.

  • Anyway, it's an impressive little gun

  • I wonder what the ballistics are like on .45/70 from that short barrell. I'd wager that most of it goes into that cone of fire coming out of the barrel. (and less into bullet velocity, though it would still take someone's head off, I'm sure)

  • Boy, that looked fun!

  • Damn. That's my idea of hard recoil.

  • chuck norris is on the phone he said that he was impressed with u for having the ballz to fire this beast

  • Reminds me of the "Noisy Cricket" from Men In Black.

  • ouch, brave kid.

  • I remember doing that. I always thought it would be a neat backup, but dang its not my favorite to shoot with that grip. Props for filming it, even with the experts denouncing it. Thats def. a 45-70 shell and def. a model 4 derringer...

  • Honestly if they made it with a longer barrel. I'd probably run out and get one.

  • Gives new meaning to 'say hello to my little friend!!

  • Chuck Norris's secondary

  • "oh look at his little gun!" BLAM!!!!! " uh where did frank go?"

  • DRROOOOLLLLSSSS

  • Dog says, "What? Eh?"

  • damn, this for those buffalo attacks?

  • @davism4a1 t-rexs

  • wow its amazing that little thing doesnt fly apart with a cartridge like that

  • It seems to be a bit of a waste with such a short barrel. I'm sure with such minimal time for the propellant to burn the weapon isn't even scratching the surface of the 45-70's potential. I'll stick to longer barrel lengths.

    Thanks for the vid!

  • At what point does it stop being a pistol and become field artillery? Wherever that line is you are gettin pretty close. Dirty Harry eat your heart out.

  • is not derringer $!!

  • Phhph. Desert eagle my ass. This thing rapes deagle.

  • CRAP! I was not expecting that. When you grabbed the gun with both hands I thought "what's this guy doing", then BANG! Haha, man that reminds me of the noisy cricket from Men in Black.

  • He has the same look I did the first time I skydived on exit. The Oh shit here I go look. You cant teach it -thats instinct brother. It leaves a fireball like my Mosin m44.I love "getting" the guy next to me on the range with big boomers lol.

  • Haha, broke his off hand grip. Wicked pistol!

Id refuse if offered. Thanks, but no thanks lol

  • Now fire both barrels at once.

  • keep your arms straight and that recoil fail wont happen!

  • I can sense your anxiety.

Looks like a surprise every time it shoots.

Wow. Don't want that going off in your pocket huh.

  • wtf...omg

  • very very unfun to fire this gun.

  • Sweet mother of god I want one!

  • overkill!!!!!

  • This video is awesome. Seeing it has been the highlight of my day. I need to move to the States so I can buy one of these. Until then, I must make do shooting 45-70 from my Marlin 1894. I am going out this weekend where there are griz. I'll strap on the Marlin and be questioned by forest pricks and tree huggers on the way in as to why I carrying it when it is not hunting season. Sorry if I don't feel like being mauled, dragged off and eaten. I am in Canada where we have stupid laws and liberals.

  • 45-70 derringer? Why?

  • before I scrolled down to see the comments. I asked that very same question-Why? I have shot a lever action 45-70 and that is a shoulder breaker!!!

  • Why not?

    lmao!!

  • Well... pain for one thing. Perhaps also the expense of purchasing a gun with no practical use. Medical bills associated with the development of osteoarthritis.

  • dude its not a gun for everyday use.Its an alaskan survival pistol.I think its meant as a last resort measure is something attacks you ie "bears"... or mental salmon LOL!!

  • A barrel that short could never take advantage of the 45-70, you could chamber the same gun in a weaker cartridge and get just as much power for less recoil and muzzle flash.

  • Muzzle flash hater!!!!

  • @ionz75 most guns chambered in a rifle cartridge that uses that short of a barrel wont take much advantage of the round. I think this gun is one of those "just because we can" guns lol.

  • @ionz75 if that's the same derringer I've seen in other videos, one barrel is for .45-70, the other is .45LC/.410 shotgun.

But yeah, I wonder how much energy the .45-70 has coming out of there with that short barrel, and if you couldn't get similar peformance out of a conventional revolver loaded with .454 cassull or something.

  • yes, but then you wouldn't have as much recoil or muzzle flash.....

  • @ionz75 I agree but the idea may have been to make a back up that chambered the same round as your rifle. this is a very popular big game round so this firearm might be attractive to hunters, thus the name survival gun.

  • @saxonforge

In that case a Magnum Research BFR in 45-70 would be a much better option, as it would have the barrel length necessary to get the bullet up to respectable velocities. I know it would be heavier, but these derringers aren't exactly lightweights. Personally, I don't see much value in having a back up gun chambered in the same round as your rifle, the slow-burning gunpowder used in rifle rounds would make it even more inefficient out of a handgun.

  • Overcompensation.

    (?)

  • @razgriz4977

Viagra would likely compensate better for

    his "problem.

  • @ionz75 About the whole "compensation" issue, damn right we're compensating! I've never been able to shoot bullets out of my penis, so I own firearms instead. ;)

  • @elitearbor lol, shooting blanks I see :P JK.

  • 1 shot 1 kill?

  • Wow, I Love IT! Ranger Rick makes a 720gr .458 bullet, I wouldn't shoot it but I would like to watch! The recoil is so violent I'll bet it is almost impossible to keep both hands on it! Keep shooting, I'd like to see anyone pull the trigger without a little bit of hesitation.

    Jason

  • Shooter looks intimidated by the gun before he shoots it.

  • That is one crazy muzzle flash.

  • your right bond arms doesnt make a 45-70 but the gun i am shooting is an american derringer M4 survival model

  • ive drooled over that exact gun in the latest buyers guide as a matter of fact lol

  • @davegunman isn't the m4 a .45 colt/.410?

  • @PooPoo2U 45 colt/410 on the bottem and 45-70 on top

  • @telerocker72 i would have to agree with you. that cartridge doesnt look big enough to be a 45-70. on top of that, shooting more than two rounds through my ruger #3 is enough to make anyone put it down for the day(and that is with a light load and a light weight slug). i doubt anyone could shoot the round through a pistol and not have it fly back in their face. next time, a close up of the cartridge would be handy.

  • @robertw006 It fits, but you only have like an inch of actual barrel. Look up Derringer 45-70 and there is another guy who does a review on one.

  • barrel is too small for that bullet, nice husky in the background

  • wow, I bet the long barrel makes that gun extremely accurate

  • lol, i have a 45 lc /410 version. that handle you have is nice, the only way to shoot that mamoth 45-70. some real soft cast bullet ought to do you best since its probly going all the way through anyway and the softer one transfers more energy.

  • if you watch closely you can see the fear in his facial expressions lol

  • The best personal defense gun is the one you only have to shoot once.

  • that thing would of hurt like hell if it wasnt for the oversized grips

  • best home defense handgun right there! careful whats behind the bad guy though, wouldn't wanna shoot your neighbors house across the street

  • What the hell are you talking about?

Thats a terrible home defense gun!

It has only two rounds and is way to powerful.

  • the best tool is the one you have with you.

you should only need one shot per person even with bird shot. home defence is where accuracy is the most important.

  • @alzlon So what are you planning on doing when you happen to miss in your dark house with your pistol with only two shots and a one inch barrel? And I don't know if you have ever shot a .410 handgun with birdshot but after about 20 feet or so it aint exactly a one hitter quitter espicially out of a short barrel...

  • The 45-70gov barrel is for shooting at the bear charging you and the .410 is for killing yourself when you miss. hahaha

  • watch that dog he doesnt even flinch

  • that dog has been around gun fire all of its life

  • so in other words, the dog's deaf.

  • Probably for the best.
