It must be so difficult to remain calm and level headed in a discussion like this. I'd jump up, bang my hands on the table in desperation and just yell "HOW THE FUCK CAN YOU EVEN BELIEVE IN A GOD YOU FUCKING TWAT!"
Does anyone think that Walid Ali kept dodging questions so that he didn't have to be called out? He kind of just called the questions stupid or irrelevant.
One of my favourite Hitch appearances on a panel discussion. The mood was quite lighthearted for this show while touching on some very serious topics. Endlessly watchable - the superlative Christopher Hitchens!
Ohh..the old classic argument by the religious...God is testing ME by MY response to the suffering masses...Let me get this right..God has set the scene whereby MILLIONS of people die to test the faith of SEAN PENN, GEORGE CLOONY and YOU...
Australia has a very progressive station and program. I am very impressed with where the 21 Century is going with this country. Far better than America at this point. We have huge tension between our political parties.
Please visit my channel for the unpopular truth about homosexuality.
A person does not need religion, hatred or any kind of phobia in order to acknowledge important, qualitative differences between heterosexual attraction / behavior / marriage / adoption and homosexual attraction / behavior / marriage / adoption.
Homosexual activists, with complete support from the media, have succeeded at framing themselves as noble victims and martyrs; it's an effective way to push a social agenda.
@SissingPyd Really? He was asked "Do you have any thoughts on this? And does Islam have a concept of a God that allows disasters to happen?" The first thing he said answered the latter question with sheer logic. The rest of his response was pretty eloquent.
@kokopelli314 waleed doesnt seem to say anything in particular and merely "answers" questions by postulating a completely unrelated question. he doesnt seem to want to face the tough issues. christopher hitchens dislikes these fence sitting apologists and quite rightly so. this lack of conviction on anything will be sorely found out in a debate against hitchens who takes pleasure in demolishing ppl like that.
that last chick Anne needs to either take those rings off her fingers or stop touching her glass of water. Its clinking and fckin distracting. I hate chicks with that accent.
If I really believed god would change his divine plan just because I asked him to, then I'd pray for Hitchens. Since god is a delusion, I will not waste my time praying, I will donate to cancer research.
@baronsengir187 Chris can never die, He has become immortalized by his ideas. As long as we carry on believing in his ideas, as long as we carry on supporting his goals then he will live on forever in our memories and our actions.
Religions contradict themselves so ridiculously I can hardly believe it. So god loves everyone and could stop disasters from happening because he lets nature take its course? If a human being had the power to stop thousands of people from dying and didn't because they wanted "nature to take its course" would be considered scum. Yet god gets away with it for being mysterious. I'm just waiting for the "freewill" argument to come up to make the stupidity complete.
@sd06ds - Funny because religious people also have to take into consideration that god was responsible for 99% of the species going instinct. They will like wise have to take into consideration god's responsibility when the Sun destroys our entire planet five billion years from now. Quite some design huh...
Walid Ali is supposed to be an academic and then goes on with a nonsensical non answer to probably the most important question yet to be answered by the religious fraternity. He can't answer the question for the most obvious of reasons, because if there is such an entity as god then it is a cruel, cruel ego maniac with scant regard for pain or suffering for everyone it LOVES.
I didn't know it until last year. But Australia is Awful. They wouldn't give me a visa to work at ANU, because of a pre-existing med. condition. But their public system doesn't even treat my condition.
It's not bad enough to treat. But, just in case, it's worth firing me as a cost risk. They're F-ing rednecks.
I'd concede the fact that Australian politicians are twits and agree that there are lots of arcane laws in Australia that need to be disposed of, along with mounds of red tape. But to say that "Australia is awful" and that they're "f-ing rednecks", is an insulting generalisation. It's like saying I hate all Americans because they started the war in Iraq (as opposed to the politicians that did).

The cute Muslim guy Waleed Aly contradicted himself:
5:53 "...This has to be some of the most rudimentary unsophisticated thinking that religious people..."
Than he continues up to
7:22 "The key question is not so much what is god doing, although that's perfectly legitimate question."
And than that the question should be "Who am I in response to this, what am I doing?"
Even ignoring that he just said people shouldn't think what they did wrong but what they are doing wrong.
Ridiculous.
